Porsche 1992 America Roadster
This is most likely the lowest mileage Porsche 964 American Roadster left, a one owner car with only 3373 miles
since new. Finished in black 'Schwartz' with Tan leather interior this car was bought new in 1992 and has remained
with its first and only owner throughout its life.
In 1952 the fledgling Porsche company had its eyes set on what would become its biggest marked, that of North
America. Sticking to Dr. Porsches ethos of an efficient and fast two seater they produced a no nonsense sportster
dubbed the 'America Roadster,’ only 25 examples were manufactured, all but one sold to the US market.
Fast forward forty years to 1992, Porsche had built a legend in the 911 originally designed by Ferdinand
‘Butzi’ Porsche in 1964, now in what is considered the final iteration of the classic body shell the 964 had
evolved into a thoroughly modern car with all of the expected creature comforts and safety equipment expected in
the modern world.
To celebrate the anniversary of the 25 cars from forty years earlier Porsche reintroduced the formula for a short
run of 964 models, producing in the process 250 of the 964 'America Roadsters.’ Utilizing a Turbo wide body
convertible it was equipped with such features as special 17” Cup wheels, turbo brakes and suspension, a rear
seat delete - making it strictly a two seater and a fully electric convertible top. Keeping the lines clean, the
rear spoiler was that of the regular Carrera 2 and 4 - a speed activated electric unit housed in the engine lid.
Powered was generated by the normally aspirated flat six rated at 280hp
Finished in solid black (Schwarz) with Tan interior featuring Ruffled leather seats, condition is as ‘showroom
fresh’ as you are ever likely to see, the paint finish is factory Porsche original, all factory applied finishes
and stickers are present. Toolkit, tire compressor, spare tire bag and tire changing gloves are of course included
and unused. This car was optioned with a Tiptronic transmission, making it rarer still as only 41 cars were so
equipped.
Having just had a full service and maintenance update by the local Porsche main dealer it is on the button for the
new owner.

Porsche Macan sales may push brand past 200K unit goal early
Tue, 13 Aug 2013In late 2010, Volkswagen announced that it would spend the equivalent of $71 billion through 2015 to beef up its product lineup, determined to overtake Toyota in overall sales and profitability by 2018. Each of VW's many brands, in turn, would play its part contributing to a goal of 10 million sales per year. VW-owned Porsche was expected to sell 200,000 vehicles per year by 2018, but with the imminent arrival of the Macan small sport utility vehicle in 2014, the automaker is poised to meet that goal years ahead of schedule, Automotive News reports.
Porsche sold 143,096 cars in 2012, and IHS Automotive predicts Porsche will sell 63,000 Macans in 2014, according to Automotive News, which would make it the brand's best-selling vehicle. Do the math and you can see how Porsche could easily beat original expectations ahead of schedule. But Porsche's sales and marketing boss Bernhard Maier says not so fast: "We will not offer [63,000 Macans] in 2014 as we will still be ramping up production and introducing models top down," he told Automotive News Europe. Whether Porsche surpasses the 200,000 mark early or not, he said, the company will not set a new sales target and will remain committed to its business model.
The Macan shares its architecture with the Audi Q5, but Porsche will be able to charge more for its SUV. Tim Urquhart, a senior analyst at IHS Autmotive, told Automotive News that Porsche can charge 10 to 20 percent more, for what is basically the same SUV, than other VW Group brands. How's that for brand value?
Genesis cars win accolades, offer value — so why are sales so bad?
Tue, Jul 31 2018My high-school buddy Brent Cormier was so smitten with the Genesis G80 when he saw it at an event I hosted at SXSW in 2016 he bought a used 2013 Hyundai Genesis a short time later and fell in love with the car. "It surpasses my every expectation," said Cormier, a self-described "renaissance man" who owns and runs a real estate agency with his wife Laura, is a food service executive chef and part owner of Austin-based Thin the Herd Guitars. "I was locked into Mercedes and Audi for 10 years," he added. "And felt trapped in an endless pit of maintenance costs." After owning the Genesis over the past two years — including using it as an Uber and Lyft driver to earn extra cash — Cormier learned what some frugal luxury sedan buyers and a handful of car reviewers have discovered: Genesis offers great bang for the buck compared to other premium brands and can compete with the best in terms of performance, features and comfort. Hyundai's luxury brand also earned a prominent third-party endorsement last week when for the first time Genesis topped J.D. Power's 2018 APEAL study, surpassing German luxury-performance icon Porsche. The APEAL study (which stands for Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout) "measures owners' emotional attachment and level of excitement across 77 attributes," ranging from performance to comfort, and asks nearly 68,000 owners of new 2018 models to score vehicles on a 1,000-point scale. In its second year ranked as a stand-alone brand, Genesis earned an APEAL score that bumped it up 15 points to 884 and helped push it past Porsche — and past BMW, Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volvo, Cadillac, Land Rover and Lexus, in order of ranking. Last month, Genesis also topped J.D. Power's Initial Quality Survey (IQS) for the first time this year. And both its models were awarded Top Safety Pick Plus ratings by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, among 11 Plus ratings in all for Korean vehicles. Despite high J.D. Power rankings and great reviews, Genesis U.S. sales were off 50 percent for the first six months of 2018 compared to 2017, and in June Genesis sold only 796 vehicles — the first time U.S. numbers dropped below 1,000 in a month. Part of Genesis's APEAL and IQS success can be attributed to its small product lineup: just two models, the G80 and G90 sedans, with a third, the 2019 G70, launching later this year. And while those numbers may help in J.D.
Auto journalist ordered to pay big money for blowing up Porsche 917 engine [UPDATE]
Tue, 22 Jan 2013Racecars blow engines all the time, but a Porsche 917 isn't just a run-of-the-mill racecar. British automotive writer Mark Hales reportedly borrowed a 917 from 82-year-old former Formula One racer David Piper for a magazine article, and mechanical tragedy ensued. Nobody is arguing that the engine failed after being spun to 8,200 rpm. However, Hales was warned not to exceed 7,000 rpm, says owner Piper, and the affair landed in English courts with Piper seeking £50,000 - over $79,000 US - in reimbursement funds for an engine rebuild and loss of use of the car while it was being repaired. Judge Simon Brown ruled in favor of car owner Piper, putting Hales on the hook for £110,000 ($174,000) including legal fees - a whole lot of money in any language.
Hales says the Porsche suffered a mechanical fault while lapping that allowed it to slip out of gear and over-rev. Piper wasn't convinced, and sought to have the repair paid for by the guy who broke the racer, saying "If you bend it, you mend it." It's not like Hales is a novice driver, having seat time in both professional and amateur races over 30 years, notching about 150 wins, but even the best drivers sometimes miss a shift, and that's what Piper contended happened to his car.
According to reports, Hales has had to sell most of his valuables to pay his lawyers and is now facing bankruptcy with the ruling against him. Members of the Pistonheads website are trying to coordinate a collection to help him out, as well.
