1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe
Here goes...
This is a NO RESERVE AUCTION for one of the most iconic, sought after sports cars ever made...A Guards Red 1987 G-50 Carrera Coupe w/ 90K Miles...Power Sunroof(needs cable)...Working Factory A/C...Original and still Guards Red...Black Leather Interior...Southern states 911 that is 100% RUST FREE with a LAZER STRAIT BODY...I found this 911 in a customer's garage in South Georgia...The car had been sitting for 5 years...3 weeks ago, I had every intention of putting this car through a 100%, NO EXPENSE SPARED restoration...Here's what we have done so far...
We flushed the gas tank and added "sea foam" gas and fuel system cleaner/conditioner...10 gallons of fresh 93 octane and she fired right up...2 fuel injectors, fresh GTX 20w50 and filter, and 6 new plugs later, we were running around town in our new found 911...I ordered brand new Euromeister Aftermarket Fuchs 7's and 8's by 16...You will also get the original Fuchs/they are pitted...Also ordered brand new Continental DW's in factory correct sizes 205/55ZR16's and 225/50ZR16's...Original tires were dry rotted...Had the body prep work done to get ready for the paint shop...Had several tiny dings/dents in the body...NO RUST...It is now ready for paint...
Yesterday, my master tech Andrew called me and said we needed to talk...He was taking the valve covers off do a valve adjustment and a broken head stud fell out...It was broken in half and had been broken for a long time...No noise, no issues at all with the engine up to that point...Heck, I had put 75 miles on the car running around town and back and forth to work from the house...I have had a dozen of these cars in the past and this car's engine is spot on with the oil pressure at running temp...He said I might be able to drive it another 10000 miles with no issue...But, he also said I could have a major failure tomorrow...So, my plans for a full restoration are on the back burner...This is where YOU come in...
I have set the initial bid price very, very low...This covers most of my cost involved with the purchase of the 911, the service work, body work, and new parts that come with the car and still leaves plenty of room to finish the car up and have a super nice 911...What is left? Head stud kit...Paint...Driver's side seat cover...Headliner/brand new headliner in the box is included...Sunroof cable(the motor works with switch, just doesn't open and close)...Fuel sending unit (gas gauge inop)...Needs parking brake cable installed (included)...Install new tires and wheels(best to ship with old ones on so the new ones don't get damaged)...Probably needs additional items but this is what I noticed after driving it for 3 weeks...
Brakes, transmission(including syncros), shocks, shifter, and all else works like it should...A/C could probably use a charge, but as I said, I have been driving this car for 3 weeks and it has done perfectly...The only thing that you will notice while driving is that the gas gauge reads empty and I know it has plenty of gas and the sunroof won't open...Everything else mechanically on the car is functioning like it should be...
GOOD LUCK and call me if you have any questions...I plan on letting this auction run until its done...I do have it advertised locally, so it could sell to someone else even if there are bids...I will give the high bidder the opportunity to match the local offer, in the event of a local buyer...AGAIN, GOOD LUCK BIDDING...I have clear GA title in hand...Thank you, Brian Gwaltney 770-898-1061...South Atlanta Motorsports has been selling top quality hand selected, premium luxury and sports cars in McDonough, GA since 2000...Home of the UNREAL356 Speedster Replica, we specialize in "special" Porsche vehicles...Just check us out...Thanks from Brian Gwaltney and South Atlanta Motorsports in McDonough, GA...
On Apr-16-13 at 13:43:54 PDT, seller added the following information:
Thanks for all of the questions and calls...YES, CARFAX IS CLEAN...NO DAMAGE HISTORY...In fact, this Carrera looks like a NO HIT BODY...CARFAX shows the 911 in Salt Lake City, UT in 1991, Lakeland, FL in 2000, and with my guy in GA in 2005...Hood has the VIN Decal near the back...The Porsche Options Decal is where it is supposed to be right by the hood latch mechanism...Other VIN Decal is on the Passenger Door where it should be...I see NO SIGNS of any PREVIOUS PAINT WORK or BODY WORK...
THANKS AGAIN AND GOOD LUCK BIDDING...
BRIAN

The Volkswagen Group switches official language to English
Wed, Dec 14 2016The Volkswagen Group can't be fairly thought of as entirely German anymore, so the news that the company is switching its official language to English to help attract managers and executives is a rational, if surprising, decision. While many VW Group companies are still staidly German in character and culture, consider the other companies that it controls: Bentley (British), Bugatti (French), Ducati and Lamborghini (Italian), Skoda (Czech), Scania trucks (Swedish), and SEAT (Spanish). Not to mention the large Volkswagen Group of America operation, which constructs cars in Chattanooga, TN. Volkswagen's explicit motivation is to improve management recruitment – making sure the company isn't losing out on candidates for important positions because they can't speak German – and that's inherently sensible in a globalized economy. Particularly considering, like it or lump it, that English is the lingua franca of said global economy. It also should make it inherently easier to communicate between its world-wide subsidiaries and coordinate operations. It's hard to say for sure if this will have any impact on the consumer, although it's easy to see the benefits if, say, VW Group hires some American product planners or engineers and they push for features and designs that more closely suit American needs. After all, the US is a hugely important market for any manufacturer, and so the switch to English almost certainly has something to do with the outsized influence of the US in the global economy. And there doesn't seem to be a downside from a purely rational perspective, although it could mean that the Group's corporate culture becomes less German. Whether that's a good or a bad thing depends on your perspective. See what the Chevy C7 ZR1 may be benchmarked against
Tue, 07 May 2013One of the greatest things every Corvette has had going for it, and also one of the most re-used arguments against it, is its price-to-performance equation - long before the Nissan GT-R became the de facto Porsche 911 comparator the Corvette spent decades as Exhibit A. Depending on which side of the argument you stressed, supporters crowed about how much performance you got for how (comparatively) little, detractors carped on how little you got everywhere else in the bargain.
It appears Chevrolet is working as hard as ever to render the argument meaningless. Spy shooters at KGP captured a convocation of European birds of prey leaving the General Motors test center, and aimed at benchmarking the C7 Corvette ZR1. The road train comprised of two C7 Corvette Stingrays, a 2013 Corvette ZR1, McLaren MP4-12C, Ferrari 458 Italia, Audi R8 V10 Spyder and Porsche 911 Carrera S and it was last seen heading down the same kinked-up back roads used to hone the Corvette Stingray.
The C7-series ZR1 and its possible 700 horsepower are still a ways off. If it really is being positioned to compete with the celestial exotica in the testing group, could it be the first Corvette to regularly be the first answer to the question "Cost no object, which would would you rather have?"
eBay Find of the Day: 1981 Porsche 928 convertible by Carelli
Wed, 30 Apr 2014The Porsche 928 was perhaps the consummate European GT of its day. With a powerful front-mounted V8 engine that grew in displacement as the model years went on, it was capable of eating up the miles at triple-digit speeds in great comfort for occupants. It was also an unusual beauty, with its sharp front and curved rear featuring innovative integrated bumpers.
Currently for auction on eBay Motors is one of the rarest 928s you're likely to find, in a handsome combination of Guards Red paint and tan leather interior, though we wouldn't mind a less-showy finish to the factory wheels. According to the seller, this car is one of eight 928 convertibles by Carelli Design, a firm that's still in business.
The auction claims that these cars were made in 1981 as a feasibility study between Carelli and Porsche for a possible production 928 convertible. The seller says he worked at the dealership where the car is said to have been originally sold $103,000. To remove the roof and hide the convertible top, there were significant changes made to the body and interior, including redesigned doors and a completely new trunk. As you can see in the gallery, when down, the top is completely hidden in a very factory-like fashion. When up, it looks slightly awkward, though (and we'd really like to see a rear three-quarter view to check out the blind spots).
