Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet is both. After all, this is the year the 3.2 was mated to the highly desirable
upgraded G50 five-speed, and while all 911s from this era are special, this baby is truly unique.

driver. The rest of the instruments surround this in their own clearly marked pods to give you a comprehensive view
of what's going on with the engine. While this 911 is obviously a driver's car, it includes power windows and cold
air conditioning, though you rarely need it with the top down!
Beneath the rear hatch is the best part of any 911. The fuel-injected 3.2-liter Carrera flat-six was an exceptional
evolution of Porsche's legendary power plant. This is a performance motor that loves to intoxicate you with its
unique air-cooled song, and it's heightened even further with a deep bass exhaust. 1987 is a pivotal year for 911
fans, because it was again, the introduction of the G50 five-speed transmission. The combination of this engine and
transmission is so durable, that with proper care and maintenance, many of these era cars last over 250,000 miles
before a rebuild is needed! This was a much more robust gearbox base on which Porsche utilized to drive its sports
car reputation right up today.

GoPro checks out Tokyo's automotive night life in 4K

There's something bizarrely fascinating about Japanese car culture, especially around Tokyo. The metropolis packs people tightly together in a way that would seem to make owning any car tough. And yet, there's still enough enthusiasm around anything with an engine to support everything from wildly tuned bosozoku rides with exhaust pipes reaching toward the sky to seriously fast Porsche and Lamborghini models. To promote its latest Hero4 camera, GoPro has embarked on a short film series called Adventure of Life in 4K, and the latest installment goes inside Japan's speed scene with some gorgeous cinematography of vibrant vehicles rocketing through the city. It's all mixed over more serene images of Tokyo landscapes that combine to form a mini-documentary that's a feast for the eyes. Volkswagen posts quarterly profit despite drop in sales

Volkswagen returned to profit in the third quarter as surging Chinese demand for luxury cars helped offset a 1.1% drop in vehicle deliveries due to the pandemic, sending its shares as much as 3% higher on Thursday. The German automaker's return to the black comes amid spiking coronavirus cases in Europe that led governments in France and Germany to order their countries back into strict national lockdowns on Wednesday. "The coronavirus remains a central problem," Volkswagen Chief Financial Officer Frank Witter said in a conference call with reporters. "This situation now is anything but relaxed." But Witter said the group expected the economic recovery to continue and did "not anticipate any nationwide lockdowns in larger markets." Witter said the takeover of U.S. truck maker Navistar International by Volkswagen's trucking unit Traton was an important acquisition, but the "current economic climate will not make this easy." Volkswagen reiterated it expects to post a profit for the full year, saying its business "recovered noticeably" in the third quarter as sales in China of premium vehicles, including Audi and Porsche sports cars, rose 3%. The quarterly performance was also aided by a series of cost-cutting measures launched earlier this year. Volkswagen said its net liquidity rose to 24.8 billion euros from 18.7 billion at the end of the second quarter. Excluding one-time items, third-quarter operating profit was 3.2 billion euros ($3.8 billion), down from 4.8 billion euros a year earlier, but up from a second quarter loss of 1.7 billion. In a note to clients, Jefferies analyst Philippe Houchois described the results as a "solid performance with strong cash, but relatively muted in the context of the (auto) sector recovery." Last week, German rival Daimler reported a record 24% jump in Chinese demand for its Mercedes-Benz cars, boosting its margins in the third quarter. Italian-American Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Peugeot manufacturer PSA Group both also posted solid results this week. Witter said Volkswagen could not say for sure whether it would meet EU CO2 emissions targets this year, adding "it will be a tough race." At 1030 GMT, Volkswagen shares were up 2.9% at 129.20 euros. 2014 Porsche Panamera 4S Executive

If the idea of a Porsche sedan (or, long hatchback) is still off-putting to you, then you might want to look away now. For 2014, the polarizing Panamera has received a midcycle refresh bringing slightly different styling, as well as adding two new models to the lineup, the S E-Hybrid and the stretched-wheelbase Executive. Having focused most of my recent trip to Germany on a First Drive of the intriguing plug-in Panamera, I also got to spend some time with the roomier Executive model.
Offered in both 4S and Turbo guise, the Panamera Executive has been stretched by almost six inches for the sole purpose of improving rear passenger space. Although it's hard to imagine anyone would willingly buy a Porsche and opt to sit in the back seat, I'd have to say that if I'm going to be chauffeured around in a car, why not make it a Porsche? For the most part, though, I'm guessing that many Panamera Executive sedans will be owned by people who want to one-up their buddy driving a stretched BMW 7 Series or Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
