1986 Porsche 911 on 2040-cars

I'm selling my 1986 Porsche Carrera Cabriolet in Guards Red. I purchased this vehicle 3 years ago from a dealer in
Florida. This vehicle is in nearly mint condition and needs nothing. This car drives like a dream. It starts
perfectly every time, transmission shifts great through all 5 gears and all mechanicals work like new. The paint is
original and is in nearly perfect condition with only a few small rock chips on the front bumper and spoiler. The
electric top works perfectly and looks great from the outside. The previous owner did a few small patch jobs on
the rear underside portion of the top, but it looks perfectly fine. The interior and dashboard are original and
look fantastic with next to no signs of wear. All gauges were sent out to Hollywood Speedometer and were
refinished and LED'd ($750). They are bright and work perfectly. I added a black leather Zuffenhaus Porsche retro
steering wheel ($400), installed an upgraded Alpine stereo with Bluetooth, 2, 8" subwoofers and 4 speakers with
tweeters, and amplifier ($4500). Sounds incredible. I have the original Blaupunkt radio. I also upgraded the
suspension, had the car lowered to a more aggressive stance, completely replaced the clutch assembly, added Turbo
fuch wheels to the rear and installed 4 new tires ($7500). All upgrades and full service were recently performed
by Manhattan Motorsports in Roslyn, New York. This car runs strong, looks beautiful and is in immaculate
condition.

Car companies may need to start curbing model proliferation
Mon, 17 Nov 2014Looking at the current automotive landscape, especially from German makers, you quickly get the impression that less definitely isn't more. BMW alone offers its 3 Series platform in practically every segment possible, including the regular sedan and 4 Series Gran Coupe, which would seem to be direct competitors. Porsche might be the winner, though, with 20 different variants of the 911 listed for sale on its US website. However, some of this model madness might be reaching an end as companies begin cutting back spending or shifting money to other priorities.
According to Yahoo Finance, the offerings from the German automakers are up 25 percent over the past three years to over 200 models in Europe. The peak is expected to come around 2018 at 230 separate vehicles, according to consulting company PwC.
Amazingly, BMW, which is among the poster children for this model explosion, might be changing its tune. "I'm sure there will be points in the future where we look at certain cars and say, 'Maybe we need to think differently now,'" said head of sales Ian Robertson in an interview, according to Yahoo Finance. The statement certainly sounds shocking coming from a company rumored to have 23 front-wheel-drive vehicles all using a single platform on the way.
VW Group to split brands under four holding companies
Tue, Jun 16 2015The Volkswagen Group is planning a tremendous shift in its internal structure that will decentralize operations by splitting its 12 brands into four different holding companies. Here's the breakdown. Things will be split logically, considering the inter-sharing of parts, platforms, and engines. The Volkswagen brand, Seat, and Skoda make up a passenger vehicle division led by former BMW man Herbert Diess. Audi, which is tightly intertwined with Lamborghini and motorcycle manufacturer Ducati, will be managed by current Audi exec Rupert Stadler. Porsche and Bentley, which are already quite close, will be joined by Bugatti and run by Matthias Mueller. Finally, a commercial vehicles division will include Volkswagen Commercial, Scania, and Man. Former Daimler exec Andreas Renschler will take care of the big vehicles. The massive move, according to Automotive News Europe, is part of an internal VAG effort to move away from the structure established by ousted Chairman Ferdinand Piech, who favored a compact, but highly centralized, management structure to oversee the independent actions of the company's brands. Criticism of Piech's arrangement stemmed from the company's slow responses to changes in the market, ANE reports. The new structure should make for a more efficient, streamlined company that's better able to make crucial decisions. What are your thoughts? Should VAG decentralize, or did Piech have the right idea? Have your say in Comments.
Porsche 911 Cabriolet refresh may hide new engine
Wed, 22 Jan 2014If we learned nothing else from our recent frolic through Porsche's secret museum, it's that the automaker goes to incredible lengths to disguise future products during initial testing. Just as a number of cars in that Stuttgart bunker hid the true identity of developmental mules (like the Audi-V8-powered 911), such could very well be the case with these spy shots showing what, on the surface, appears to be simply a facelifted 991 911 Cabriolet.
Similar to what we saw last month on a 911 coupe, this Cabriolet has obvious styling modifications made to the front and rear fascias suggesting that the 911's still-fresh appearance is already set to get a few tweaks. The big news here is at the rear of the car. The additional vents on the lower edge of the fascia and the mocked-up vent above the engine leads our spy photographer to believe that a new engine could be tucked under the body work - likely a smaller-displacement, turbocharged flat-six focusing more on improving fuel efficiency and reducing exhaust emissions rather than performance.
We last heard rumblings of such a detuned 911 back in August, but could this be our first look at said new model? Have a look for yourself, and let us know what you think - either about this mule specifically or the idea of a "green" 911, in Comments below.
