1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa 2-door 3.2l on 2040-cars

Over $17,000.00 was spent this past winter on upgrades and repairs to this beautiful Carrera.  Never tracked, raced, or even driven in the wet.  NO RUST.....EVER.
The car is a paint to match color by Porsche.  If you weren't aware of this program, back in the day, Porsche would paint a car any color a customer wanted for a huge fee.  This is one of those cars. A beautiful off white that contrasts perfectly with the all black trim and interior.  Paint to sample colors on 911's have historically commanded huge prices as time goes by.

So where did that $17,000.00 go?  The majority of it went to Daniel Jacobs Hairy Dog Garage in Oxford CT.  Daniel is know throughout the Northeast as one of THE BEST 911 mechanics anywhere.  The following items were repaired by Daniel Jacobs.  The engine was assessed from top to bottom and was found to be in excellent health with no issues.  At this time the engine was removed from the car so all the oil lines could be replaced and the 915 transmission rebuilt.  The transmission was completely rebuilt with all NEW parts.  A lot of 915 transmissions get budget rebuilds with used parts.  Jacobs doesn't believe in that.  This trans received new syncros, new sleeves, new bearings, new gears, new gaskets, and a complete sachs clutch kit including pressure plate, clutch, and throw out bearing.  At this time a new WEVO Classic shifter was installed to make this one sweet shifting 915!

While the engine was out it received new oil return tubes, a new rear main seal, cam seals, and a major engine service.  That included valve adjustment, timing set, plugs, cap, rotor, fuel & oil filters, oil change with Brad Penn oil, and the entire brake system was flushed and new brake fluid added.   Not a single leak anywhere on this car.  Bone dry engine.

New HVAC blower motors were replaced where needed and the power window switches were replaced and new window felts installed.  As a result, the power windows work flawlessly.  A new windshield was also installed with a new gasket.

New turbo tie rods were installed and the car had a 4 wheel alignment.  It drives and tracks PERFECT.  All brakes and calipers have been renewed.  4 new 15" Falken radials were installed and balanced.

Daniel Jacobs commented that this was one of the nicest Targa's he has seen.  He also said that the paint was almost all original and he loved the color and mentioned it's rarity.  Receipts for work done by Daniel Jacobs total just over $16,000.00

The Targa Top was set to Dave Brown, a well respected expert in Targa top restoration.  Dave rebuilt the entire top from inside out.  It seals perfectly and looks better than new.  Total cost over $1400.00

I have original receipts for all the work mentioned here.

The car even has it's original factory Blaupunkt Monterey Radio.  That may not seem like a big deal, but it shows that NOTHING on this car has been played with or altered.  The car is as it left the factory.  It has had just 2 adult owners it's entire life and it shows!!

The car runs and drives perfect.  I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere at anytime.  It is not a trailer queen.  It has a few very small chips in the paint that have been touched up with custom matched spectrometer formulated paint that matches perfectly.   The heat in this car is incredible.  The A/C, which sucked in these cars from new, doesn't work, but the system is complete. There are numerous companies that have engineered upgraded A/C systems for these cars that actually work.  Or.....Just drive your Toyota on 100 degree days.  There is nothing like taking the Targa top off this car on a beautiful summer day or evening and letting nature cool you.

If you want a classic 911 from the days when these cars were literally hand built but don't want to buy someone else's problems.  THIS IS YOUR CAR!  Everything has been done.  The prices on these mid decade 911's are moving up FAST.  Early 911's have already hit the low 6 figures and the mid 80's cars drive better, ride better, have fuel injection, and are bullet proof reliable.  At some point the market is going to figure out that the older 911's aren't half the cars these later examples are.  Buy this car and watch it out perform your stock portfolio over the next decade.  Think I'm kidding??

Go to Youtube and type in:    Why You Must Buy A Porsche 911 Today      The guys at IDrive discuss in detail why these mid 80's 911's are so great and why the time to buy them is NOW!! Check it out, there's a  lot of very good info on these cars in that segment.

THERE IS NO "BUY IT NOW" ON THIS CAR.   HIGHEST BIDDER GETS IT.  The auction will run to the end.  Bid to WIN!

On Apr-03-14 at 04:42:26 PDT, seller added the following information:

PLEASE don't ask about the reserve.  It has been set at a very reasonable sum that this car will absolutely hit.

ALSO....Please READ the description.  I have people asking if the car has rust?   The FIRST LINE of the description clearly states   N O   R U S T   E V E R.

There is  NO  PAINT BUBBLING....N O T H I N G.

One other item that might be of interest regarding the cars condition and how it's kept.  I do not WASH my cars with water.  This is something that JAY LENO swears by.  Spraying your car with water every week introduces the very medium that makes cars RUST. Check out Jay Leno's Garage and see for yourself.  Leno NEVER washes his cars!!  Instead he uses a California Duster on his cars after every drive.  I do the same thing.  Additionally, this Porsche is never driven in the wet.  Once a month I use a detail spray wax to clean the car.   Twice a year the car gets a coat of the best wax I have ever used P21S.  The car literally looks WET because this wax is simply incredible.

That's it folks....It's an AUCTION......BID....Because cars this good are almost impossible to find these days!!!

On Apr-03-14 at 05:22:56 PDT, seller added the following information:

I have given Daniel Jacobs Hairy Dog Garage permission to release their findings on this car to any interested parties.  They know the car, they've worked on the car, and they have all the records.

Google search them for their contact info.   I'm doing it this way with the hope that only truly interested parties will go through the effort to find Jacobs contact info, thus avoiding a working Porsche Garage from being bombarded with questions that have already been answered here.  I hope you understand my position.  There is NOTHING to hide on this car.

Amelia Island 2013: Porsche 911 swarms the field marking 50 years of rear-engine goodness

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

Perhaps one of the most iconic sports cars in the world, it was no surprise that the Porsche 911 showed up in numbers to the 2013 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. Although the original 911 launched 50 years ago, the original and current models are instantly recognizable as 911s, and since the 911 has a storied racing background, there were probably just as many racing versions of the coupe as there were street-legal versions.
As the show's 2013 honoree, one of the prime racing examples was a 1970 Porsche 911 S raced by Sam Posey. There were so many cars in attendance, we didn't know where to look, but a 1985 911 Speedster concept and a Porsche-owned, rally-ready 911 Type 953 were definitely among the more impressive standouts. As an added bonus, Jacksonville-based Brumos Porsche had many of its classic racecars on display including a beautiful 959.

Porsche 912 is no longer the brand's black sheep

Fri, Dec 12 2014

If you haven't looked recently, prices for many vintage Porsche 911s are now well out of the realm for mortal men to purchase. However, the growing values have their advantages because they mean that the 912 is being better accepted as a member of the Porsche family. In a new video, Petrolicious talks to one owner about his mildly modified example while the coupe zips through the backroads and city streets of France. Launched around the time of the 911, the 912 shared its body but retained the four-cylinder engine from the 356, rather than the new six. The older mill helped make the 912 cheaper to buy, but it also tarnished the coupe in the eyes of Porsche fans for years. Much like the four-cylinder 914 and 924, the 912 just seemed like a black sheep in the shadow of its more powerful brother. Following two massive changes to his life, Julien Borne bought a 1967 912 as a project to get back on the road. After hours of welding, wrenching and beating out panels by hand in his grandparents' neglected country house, he crafted this gorgeous example. Check out the video to hear his story, as Petrolicious shows why the model's stigma is wearing off.

Meet the man that discovered and restored the oldest existing Porsche

Tue, 11 Mar 2014

Luciano Rupolo is an absolutely fascinating gentleman. He was born in France but spent nearly his entire life in Italy as an auto mechanic running his own shop. His grandfather and father instilled a love of sports cars in him that he carried on by historic racing in Italy for decades. He saw his life-long automotive passion repaid when he found and restored the car that might have been the first Porsche registered for the road.
You can spot in his garage a split-window Corvette, Ferrari 250 GTE and other exotics, but Rupolo's most interesting automotive story concerns his Iso Grifo Competizione (pictured above). The sports coupe was found in the Canary Islands as little more than a shell, but Rupolo got help from a prestigious source for its restoration. The result is a motoring masterpiece.
Rupolo is a fantastic storyteller with a captivating, tale to tell. Settle in, scroll down and watch the bittersweet documentary about his life with one of the first Porsches.
