For sale is a terrific example of a 1984 Porsche 911 Targa with Whale Tail, which was the first year of the famous 3.2L Carerra. Considered by many to be the finest build quality of all the 911's.
This car has been owned for many years by a real Porsche enthusiast (and member of The Porsche Club of America) and the car has been carefully maintained, both mechanically and cosmetically.
For example, in 2008, the car underwent a TOTAL Engine rebuild, with port and polished heads and intake valves. TOTAL transmission rebuild with all new gear dog teeth etc. New axles and CV joints, new brake calipers and machined rotors on all wheels, restored gas tank. New alternator, New fuel injectors and a huge amount more, too numerous to mention here but FULLY DOCUMENTED. Since the rebuild. I have driven about 7000 miles, so essentially, it's almost a brand new car mechanically!
The interior is in excellent condition, with no cracks on the dashboard, or any of the upholstery. Carpets are in great shape. Excellent stereo with 6 cd changer. Targa top is in perfect condition, both outside and the headliner.
The bodywork is strong and in very good condition, but the paintwork, although good, is beginning to show its age.
The only defects the car has are
1. A small dent on the left rear fender, courtesy of some idiot in a parking lot who clipped the car when I was away from it and drove off. I have been quoted the price of $310 to repair the problem by a good bodyshop.
2. The odometer cable broke 3 weeks ago, and I haven't got around to replacing it. The speedometer works perfectly.
Please feel free to ask me any questions regarding this car. It has been an extremely reliable, almost daily driver for all the time I have owned it, and it will give great service for many years to come.

eGarage video features Helmuth Bott's personal Porsche 959 prototype
Fri, 12 Apr 2013"We thought we were going to build a super-911," said Peter Schutz, former CEO of Porsche AG of the development of the Porsche 959. That was before it started getting expensive. At that point, Helmuth Bott, Porsche R&D director got frightened. Costs ballooned because of the all-wheel drive, sequential turbocharging and other technology Porsche had never even thought about when it set out to build a 911 to compete in Group B. Schutz continued, "The amount of resources we were committing got totally out of hand." Instead of pulling the plug, Bott doubled down and drew on the strength of his brilliant team to build a car whose impact is still echoing aross the industry.
"It's probably one of our most prized possessions" says Don Leatherwood, Director of the Brumos collection where Dr. Bott's personal prototype resides, and where Frazer Spowart went to see the car and create a video for eGarage. Check out the sights and sounds of the 959 before it was the 959, and get personal takes on the car from Hurley Haywood, Peter Schutz and Don Leatherwood. Keep reading to see the video.
World's largest toy car collection is in Beirut, and it's remarkable
Fri, Jan 31 2014It's common for auto enthusiasts to have a few miniatures of their favorite cars around their home or office. They provide a respite of happiness knowing that if you can't have the real things, at least you can look at them in miniature. However, Billy Karam of Beirut, Lebanon, has taken collecting toy cars to its extreme. His collection of over 30,000 model cars and 400 dioramas is certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's largest collection of car toys. "You cannot buy the big ones, so you buy a thousand of the small ones instead," says Karam in the video. Karam is a former amateur racing driver with a weakness for all things Porsche, and many of his dioramas depict races that he drove in or attended. Looking at them gives him a chance to relive the experiences again, but unlike a photo or video, they are right there in three dimensions.
