This absolutely stunning original Talbot Yellow 911S Coupe long term project is ready for a new owner who can
either drive it the way it sits, or take it to the next level...which isn't that far away.
This beauty may lose some of it's aura if you give the "B" grade paint finish a really close inspection, and you
might find it a little unsettling that it smokes a little at startup if it's been sitting unused for several days.
And yes, there is some very light surface rust in a couple of places that can be easily fixed, and a parking lot
bump shows a little on the right rear rubber bumper.
So much for the bad news, now a little about the good: The stock (and numbers correct) 2.7L engine was rebuilt to a
high level in 2001 (21,000 miles ago) with performance head studs, updated turbo chain tensioners, 11-blade cooling
fan, ported and polished heads, higher lift camshafts, carburetors and stainless steel headers, heat exchangers and
performance exhaust. The engine shrouding, valve covers and cooling fan were bead blasted and powder coated a
beautiful satin black. The stock 915 transmission was rebuilt, 1st and 2nd gear synchronizers replaced, clutch
replaced with a lightweight ceramic unit, and the shifter and connection linkage replaced with Wevo units.
The suspension was upgraded to new Bilstein shocks and struts, with new turbo tie-rod ends and sway bar linkage.
The brake calipers were rebuilt with new Ferodo performance friction.
The interior was replaced: new factory original carpet set, Lloyds floor mats, factory vinyl seat covers front and
rear, and door panels. The radio was replaced with a very tasteful Becker CDR-210 unit from a Boxster with Boston
Acoustics speakers, though I always prefer the music the flat six makes!
The exterior was updated with Euro halogen headlights and taillight lenses and a new rubber front bumper "smile".
The stock Fuchs wheels (needing restoration) were replaced with later "black spoke" models which I prefer...but you
can have your choice of either set...just not both. The tires on both sets are rather old, so you should budget
replacement before any spirited driving.
I sold my very successful auto repair shop last year and am transitioning to a less stressful life without needful
performance cars. Rest assured that all work was completed to a high standard (excepting the paint, and that guy
has since died, so I can't really speak ill of his craftsmanship), and the photos speak for themselves.

Will Roegge makes 4K art of Jeff Zwart's 911 build and run up Pikes Peak
Sun, 17 Aug 2014Will Roegge has turned his camera on Jeff Zwart and provided another gem, this time documenting Zwart's run up Pikes Peak and BBI Autosport. Bertim Besha dropped out of high school, then worked his way up to founding his own shop, BBI, that gathers a crew of tuners who are just as fastidious about their work as the customers are about their cars.
They prepped the 991-series Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Turbo, the product of combining a 911 GT2 that was the most powerful car Zwart drove up the mountain with a GT3 Cup that Zwart thought had the best handling. Two TiAL turbos and a lot of fettling make for a 3.8-liter flat-six with 700 horsepower, 700 pound-feet of torque and a 7,800-rpm redline. Zwart drove it to a heartbreaking second place this year, finishing less than 1.2 seconds behind the Time Attack 1 class winner when his car suffered its first mechanical issue of the week.
The first video below covers Besha, BBI and the build, the second is Zwart's run. As if the visuals weren't enough, sit back and enjoy the shrieking of the "Hill Climb Special," which is what the constellation Sirius would sound like if it could bark.
Porsche planning more plug-ins
Mon, Jan 5 2015Which automaker offers the most plug-in models in the industry? The answer may surprise you, because it's not Toyota, it's not Renault or Nissan or any other automaker that might spring to mind. The answer is Porsche, which already offers the Cayenne and Panamera in plug-in hybrid spec in addition to the 918 Spyder. And it could offer more in the near future. Speaking with Automotive News, Porsche's global sales and marketing chief Bernhard Maier spoke of the importance of plug-in range-extended models to the company's future plans. The 55-year-old executive, who endeavors to make his 56-mile round-trip daily commute from home to the company's headquarters in Stuttgart entirely emissions free, indicated that his company only plans to offer more plug-in models. Previous reports indicated that E-Hybrid powertrain in the Cayenne and Panamera wouldn't fit in the Macan, and that no such plans were in store for the Boxster, Cayman or 911. But when asked what Porsche had in store for the future, Maier replied: "We have a lot of ideas, but we have not approved them for production yet. The 918 Spyder shows that Porsche has the capability to produce very convincing hybrid sports cars." While clearly guarded, Maier's answer points to a future of more plug-in hybrid models from the storied German marque. All that remains to be seen is whether that will come in the form of a Boxster, Cayman, Macan or another new model altogether, like the rumored mini-Panamera dubbed Pajun or a mid-engined V8 supercar.
Touring Italy in a classic Porsche will have you feeling continental
Wed, 13 Nov 2013It's hard to believe there was a time when a Porsche 911 didn't come to market with 400 horsepower. But as the latest video from Petrolicious reminds us, with this video of a 1968 911T, owned by Donato Maniscalco, that time wasn't so long ago.
You might think, being a distinguished man living in Italy, Maniscalco would be more enthused by a Ferrari, Maserati, or Lamborghini, but in reality, it was always Porsche that enamored the Italian as a boy. And it was that passion that led him to purchase the glorious 911T he's seen tossing about in this video.
Maniscalco goes into detail about what makes the old 911 such a legend, while also mentioning how he and the car participate in classic rallies and races. There's also some typically beautiful footage of the Italian countryside, as well. So take a look below for the latest video from Petrolicious.
