1975 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 Mfi Euro Row Rs on 2040-cars
Los Angeles, California, United States
For 1973, Porsche realized that they needed to up the ante in order to remain competitive on the racing scene. The rules at that time stipulated that manufacturers had to produce (homologate) a certain number (500) of identical cars for them to be accepted for production car racing. To this end, they created the Carrera RS (Rennsport) 2.7. This was basically a lightened version of their existing 2.4 litre 911S with a larger 2.7 litre engine. The Carrera name referenced their earlier class victories with the 356 in the Carrera Panamericana races in the 1950s and the RS stood for Rennsport (literally, race sport in German). It was offered in both Lightweight and Touring versions. Though a one-year only model, in total, 1,580 were produced and they have become the most sought after 911s of all time. Then, for 1974 (for all markets other than the U.S.), Porsche offered a new top-of-the-range model, the 911 Carrera 2.7. This was essentially identical to the 1973 Carrera RS, both mechanically and bodily, with the same widened arches. The main difference being the new-for-1974, federally mandated, impact bumpers. Even with these however, it still weighed in at exactly the same weight as the RS Touring version (1,075 kg) and therefore had identical performance and handling. (In fact, Porsche wouldn't build a faster normally-aspirated production model until 1988!!) The Carrera 2.7 was built in very limited numbers until production ceased in 1976. The car offered here is one of only 508 examples built for 1975 and was delivered with a factory sliding steel sunroof. Finished in Grand Prix White with black interior, it was sold new in Italy where it remained with its original owner until 2012 when it was sold to an Austrian collector before coming to the States in 2013. It is in superb condition throughout and is very strong mechanically. The engine is the correct 911/83 motor type (as fitted to the '73 RS) but is from a 1974 Carrera 2.7. So, it is the exact same type of engine as was fitted to the car originally, just not the one that came with the car. It was recently serviced, with receipts for over $6,000. Currently on an EU title, the car is located in Los Angeles, California with US duty paid.
With Touring versions of the 1973 Carrera RS regularly selling for well in excess of $400,000, these fractionally younger but virtually identical twins currently represent an incredible opportunity to own one of the greatest Porsches built, for a fraction of the cost. For further information, please call +1-310-593-2080. This car can be viewed on my website, kastnerandpartnersgarage dot com and is available for sale locally. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. Thankyou for looking. |

2015 Porsche Panamera Exclusive Series is a seriously quick way to spend $260k
Wed, 19 Nov 2014Porsche is usually associated with being a sports car brand, but with vehicles like the Cayenne and Panamera it takes a step into the world of luxury against firmly established players like Mercedes-Benz. One way for the company to poke its head above the high-class fray is by taking things further, and in the case of the Panamera Exclusive Series at the Los Angeles Auto Show, it means pushing grandeur to extreme levels.
Coming in at an absolutely eye-watering $263,900, plus $995 destination, the Panamera Exclusive starts its life as the already sumptuous Panamera Turbo S Executive with a 4.8-liter, twin-turbo V8 making 570 horsepower on an extended wheelbase. To help justify the extra $63,000 for the Exclusive, though, the model gets 20-inch black Sport Classic wheels and an interior in swaddled in Nappa leather with dark walnut and piano black trim. Rear passengers also get 10.1-inch touchscreens mounted on the back of the front seats. A set of fitted Poltrana Frau leather luggage is included with each one, as well.
The luxurious sedan earns it Exclusive moniker because just 100 of them are being made worldwide. Scroll down to read about Porsche's ultimate limousine.
UK Porsche GT3 owners are irked that other countries are getting better deals
Sun, 27 Apr 2014Porsche 911 GT3 owners in the United Kingdom are up in arms, but it's not for the reason you might think. Okay, well it sort of is. See, it's been fairly well documented that 911 GT3 owners have had their cars grounded over concerns that the engines could catch fire. Porsche is rushing to build and install replacement engines in all 800 or so cars, scattered around the globe.
This isn't really the issue. The problem for these British owners is compensation. While the car's have been grounded, car notes still need to be paid. To deal with this, American GT3 owners are being paid $2,000 per month. German owners get 175 euros ($242 at today's rates) per day while a GT3 owner in Dubai is allegedly receiving $12,000 (it's unclear if this is a lump sum or a monthly payment). Basically, if you aren't able to drive your six-figure super car, you shouldn't have to pay for it. Seems reasonable regardless of the make.
British owners, though, aren't being compensated, and for 30 to 35 owners, that's not acceptable. They've banded together and are led by Sunil Mehra.
Recharge Wrap-up: Porsche adds third 919 Hybrid for Le Mans, Audi to heat factory with geothermal
Wed, Nov 26 2014Porsche will be running a third 919 Hybrid LMP1 car in the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. The extra Porsche will race in the six-hour May 2 WEC race at Spa-Francorchamps as a lead-up to the legendary 24-hour race on June 13 and 14. Porsche hasn't announced the driver lineup for the third 919 Hybrid, but drivers will remain the same for the other two cars. Including the third car is meant to help further test performance and efficiency as part of development for future hybrid systems. Read more at Green Car Congress. BMW i Ventures is investing in Zendrive, a driving focused data and analytics company. The cooperation of the two companies is meant to help advance safety and efficiency by making the "in-car mobility experience even smoother by optimizing commuting and driving patterns," according to BMW i's Ulrich Quay. The venture capital arm of BMW's i brand also invests in JustPark, Chargepoint, Life360, Chargemaster and MyCityWay, and says it will have more strategic investment announcements in the coming months. Read more in the press release below. The Audi Hungaria factory in Gyor, Hungary will soon be getting geothermal energy from a nearby plant being constructed in Per. When the facility is finished, Audi expects to source 82,000 megawatt hours of geothermal energy per year from it, or about six percent of its total heating needs. The clean energy helps Audi move "step by step along a path to developing a CO2-neutral production plant," says Audi's Dr. Hubert Waltl. "The mobility of the future must be CO2-neutral – and that applies not only to the use of our vehicles, but also to their production." Read more in the press release below. Supporters have begun a petition drive for the passage of an E15 ordinance in Chicago. Despite pushback from oil companies, the city council is close to passing the "Chicago Clean Air Choice Ordinance," which includes the requirement by retailers to sell the 15-percent ethanol gasoline blend in the city. The ordinance includes an exception for stations selling less than 850,000 gallons of fuel per year. More than 4,000 people have signed the petition so far, with others leaving messages to voice their opinion on the matter in opposition to Big Oil's attempt to block it. Read more at Domestic Fuel.
