HISTORY:
Sold in 1957 by Concours Motors, Milwaukee to customer.
Concours was owned by Bill Wuesthoff who raced Porsche's at Sebring, mostly 718 - RS 60's (1961-1962), for Porsche Car Imports along with Augie Pabst and Bruce Jennings as well as a privateer in over 100 races, including the Nurburgring, Road America, Meadowdale, etc., etc..
First owner installed rally equipment including a rare Chrome Halda Speedpilot and Heuer 24 Hour Mastertime as well as a Sebring Stopwatch on the glove box.
He also installed a Derrington wood rimmed steering wheel with the rare double stalk turn signal and flasher combo that he got from Concours Motors and Marchal air horns.
Wuesthoff bought the car back for his personal use in 1959 and installed engine *P715495* sometime in the early-mid 60's. Being a works driver and dealer he had access to everything Porsche had to offer and a B engine was superior to an A engine in so many ways. Now we know better but that was then, this is now.
During the mid 60's (1963) the car was shipped to the Porsche family home where a cloisonn'e Zell-am-See badge was attached to the dash to commemorate the visit.
Present owner (me) bought the car in 1997 with 21,587 miles when a full mechanical restoration was done between 1997-99 in preparation for living abroad.
In 2000 the car was shipped to Geneve, Switzerland, via France, when owner was posted to the UN Diplomatic Corp. Instead of the usual, and ugly plastic current, CD Plate a very rare period "Oval" was obtained and mounted - much to the annoyance of the UN Bureaucracy who are not known to bend rules. On the other hand Porsche people are not accustomed to hearing "no" for an answer...

CONDITION - PRESENT:
NEVER Any Accidents and NEVER taken apart.
FULL mechanical restoration - Drive Anywhere, Anywhere.
Engine (Dick Weiss),
Transmission (Mile Robbins),
Suspension (Vic Skirmants),
Z Bar Powder coated.
Koni's, etc.
Dual Braking System for Safety.
Mileage of 28,252 is somewhat accurate. I say somewhat because the speedometer cable broke and I drove it a few thousand miles before replacing it. More miles will be put on weather permitting....
All work that was done and all the receipts are present as well as before and after engine specs. Some of the old parts were retained and are included.
Only the BEST parts were used. Sodium Filled Valves, ARP Fasteners, Big Bore, Mild and tractable Elgin Cam, Full Flow Oil System using a cast alloy finned Fram Head and a removable Cannon Filter Housing of the HP 6 size.(adds a full quart of oil to the system), 40 IDA Webers, Powder Coating, Cadmium (not bright zinc but real Cadmium) Plating, etc.
The Weber's have beautiful Period Alloy Velocity Stacks with a Wire Mesh "Bubble," that are covered by Cast and Finned Alloy Air Cleaner Housings. THAT"S attention to detail...
There are 3 full binders of receipts and documents that go with the car.
Still retains the original RED LEATHER interior which is in Excellent condition as is the headliner and other soft trim.
Very very presentable, car will drive anywhere as the engine, transmission and suspension were all redone with ALL new parts.
The car has PERFECT gaps and has never been taken apart. The opening panels are all matching numbers (010) and all the glass is original to this car.
The car would benefit with some attention to rust but is not necessary in the foreseeable future.
It comes with rare chrome 5.5 inch Fuchs wheels (not Brazilian Mangels) with Dunlop 185/65/15 tires as well as the correct date coded spare and Michelin X Spot.
Being owned by a dealer (1959-1997) all Porsche parts were used during it's lifetime. No "Home Depot" hardware or other non Porsche parts used.
I bought the car in 1997 and continued to use only Porsche parts whenever possible.

SPARES:
Some included, nothing that will make or break the deal but nice to have items like Relay's, etc.

WORK THAT SHOULD BE DONE:
Hook Up Turn Signal - Flasher.
Install Joe Leoni Headlight Kit (provided in price).

BRIEF WRITE UP:
This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a genuine T1 -2 sunroof coupe (originally, but not currently, in the most attractive color - Aquamarine) that has period and correct rally equipment since new along with some rare accessories and an impeccable and interesting history including a Factory Works Driver and Diplomatic Service. A car that has had ALL the mechanical work done.

For a LOT more money, you probably can find a better car but you can't buy history, ownership, color or provenance, period. It's the right car with the right equipment and the right history, no excuses.

Recharge Wrap-up: Porsche 911 hybrid possible, Ecocruise EVs coming soon

Thu, Oct 9 2014

The next-generation Porsche 911 could use hybrid power, according to Porsche CEO Matthias Muller. "There is no reason against it and we will see if we have some reasons to do it," Muller says of the model due around 2018. He also suggests that hybrid technology could eventually make its way into all Porsche model lines, but that the Boxster and Cayman would first get four-cylinder versions. Muller cites carbon emissions and "sportiness" as reasons to use hybrid power, pointing to the 918 Spyder as a good example of both. Read more at Car Advice. A B-Class F-Cell from the Mercedes-Benz fleet has hit a benchmark of 300,000 kilometers (about 186,411 miles) in everyday use. The achievement won Daimler an "f-cell award" for hydrogen fuel cell technology and innovation. The 300+ fuel cell cars in the Daimler fleet have driven a collective 9 million-plus kilometers (more than 5.5 million miles). The information gathered from this testing is being used to improve development as the company looks toward expanding commercialization of fuel cell cars. "We have clearly demonstrated that the fuel cell electric drive is ready for the road," says Professor Herbert Kohler of Daimler. "The last hurdles we will overcome in intensive cross-industry and cross-border teamwork." Read more in the press release below. A company called Ecocruise has new EVs coming out soon. Along with electric scooters and service vehicles, Ecocruise develops street-legal neighborhood electric vehicles like the three-wheeled EZip-3, the four-wheeled EZip-4, and the fun looking Cruser Sport (see a prototype in the video below). The EVs are scheduled to go on sale in January of 2015, which is right around the corner. Ecocruise was started after the founder of Kasea Motorsports decided to switch to electric vehicles with the goal of offering providing affordable emissions-free driving. Learn more about Ecocruise and its vehicles at the company's website. The new EU Fuel Quality Directive (FQD) does little to discourage dirty fuels like tar sands and coal-to-liquid, says Transport & Environment (T&E). The FQD requires suppliers to reduce greenhouse gas intensity for transport fuel in the EU by six percent by 2020. The much-delayed FQD doesn't do as much as it could, though, say critics, and it doesn't label dirtier fuel sources as such despite the urging of scientists. T&E, an organization focused on cleaning up EU transport, blames Canada, the US and Big Oil.

Porsche considering X6-style Cayenne coupe

Mon, 05 May 2014

It was practically unthinkable when Porsche introduced the Cayenne in 2002. An SUV... from Porsche? Purists balked, but customers flocked, and the Cayenne propelled the its holding company into such profitability that it practically took over the entire Volkswagen Group. It's now been twelve years since the original Cayenne arrived as the first production Porsche with more than two doors, and Zuffenhausen has since followed up with the Panamera, the Macan and the second-generation Cayenne. But it isn't about to stop there.
The latest intel coming in from overseas suggests that Porsche is in the advanced stages of designing a slant-back, five-door Cayenne coupe to take on the likes of the BMW X6 and upcoming Mercedes-Benz MLC. Though the business case (however solid BMW may have already demonstrated it to be) is still being considered, if approved it would join the upcoming third-generation Cayenne on the production line in Leipzig as early as 2018 - a year after the new Cayenne itself is expected to arrive.
The Cayenne coupe would share much with the more conventional MkIII Cayenne (and for that matter the next Audi Q7 and VW Touareg as well as the Lamborghini Urus and Bentley Falcon) but differentiate itself with a more stylish (if less practical) roofline and an altogether sportier attitude. Autocar reports that the design calls for tauter sheetmetal and sportier cabin inspired by the 918 Spyder. Pricing would be positioned a good 15-20 percent higher than the regular Cayenne, and the "coupe" version would likely be offered with most, if not all of the engines available in the conventional version - including gasoline, diesel, turbo and possibly even hybrid options ranging all the way up to the 550-horsepower Turbo S.

Porsche hybrids come up short at Le Mans

Tue, Jun 17 2014

Two cars, one finish, zero victories. That's a brief synopsis of Porsche's hybrid-vehicle performance in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race in France. There's always next year. Porsche entered two 919 Hybrid vehicles in the race. The No. 14 car essentially limped to the finish line after encountering drivetrain problems. The other Porsche hybrid, No. 20, was driven by Germany's Timo Bernhard, New Zealand's Brendon Hartley and Australia's Mark Webber. That car ran for more than 22 hours before its own powertrain issues did that racing team in for good. Both vehicles ran towards the front of the pack at times during the race, and the No. 20 car actually led the race after about 20 hours. Still, both teams said they were disappointed in the results. Porsche sister company Audi came up big for the 13th time in the race's long and storied history. One Audi R18 E-Tron Quattro won the race, while another finished second. The Toyota that had pole-position and was winning much of the race shut down after 15 hours of racing because of electrical issues and Nissan had trouble with is ZEOD RC. Check out Porsche's press release below, and read here for a more general race recap. STRONG PERFORMANCE BY PORSCHE 919 HYBRIDS BUT NO DREAM ENDING IN PROTOTYPE RETURN TO LE MANS Le Mans. After a strong performance by both Porsche 919 Hybrids, the Porsche Team was left empty-handed after a dramatic final stage of the race. Following more than 22 hours, car No. 20 driven by Timo Bernhard (Germany), Brendon Hartley (New Zealand) and Mark Webber (Australia) suffered a powertrain problem at the world's most famous endurance race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Earlier in the race the LMP1 class car was leading overall for a significant period of time. The second innovative and highly complex prototype – in the hands of Romain Dumas (France), Neel Jani (Switzerland) and Marc Lieb (Germany) – likewise proved to be very competitive, but was hampered by a drivetrain problem. However, their No. 14 car crossed the finish line under its own power. After a thrilling start to the race with changing weather conditions, numerous accidents and a relatively calm night, Bernhard took the overall lead in the No. 20. The longtime Porsche factory driver returned to the top spot after 20 of the 24 hours. At 12:36 (CET) on Sunday, he handed the leading car over to Webber. Less than 20 minutes later the Australian was forced to slow down and drove solely on electric power back to pit lane.
