This car was built from a late 80's CMC kit in 1999.  The VW chassis is a 1969 which was upgraded with disc brakes all around!  The motor was built by Car Custom, is 2,275cc's, and has dual Dellorto carbs!  Here's a rundown of the car:

  • 2275cc motor
  • Dual Dellorto 45 carburetors
  • Ported & polished heads, stainless steel valves, chromoly retainers, dual springs
  • Four speed manual transmission with rhino case with hardened gears
  • Racing strength clutch, Kennedy pressure plate
  • Full flow 8 pass oil cooler mounted to front of fan shroud
  • Oil breather box
  • Extra capacity deep sump and external oil filter
  • Monza exhaust with chrome tips
  • VW chassis VIN 119401317, a 1969 model
  • 914 disc brakes front and rear, braided stainless brake lines
  • Fully adjustable front and rear suspension
  • Porsche style VDO gauges
  • Electric fuel pump
  • Original VW horn and a dual trumpet air horn (switch to use one or the other)
  • Slotted chrome wheels with baby moon hub caps
  • Convertible top and extra tonneau cover
Pictures show bumpers removed, I likes the look better.  Bumpers do come with the car and are simple reinstall if desired.  Have the following extra gear that was purchased but never installed on the car:
  • Rear sway bar
  • New Halogen head lights
  • New Halogen fog lights
  • New Kwik Wire wiring harness (not much electrical on the car but planned to install the new wiring with the updates lighting)
  • Used Lecarra leather steering wheel
I have a number of book resources that have helped me over the years and will go with the car; the Dellorto carb tech book, original CMC assembly manual, VW Beetle Autobook, the famous John Muir 'How to Keep your VW Alive' book.  Car body isn't perfect, it is gelcoat, not paint, so could easily be rubbed and polished to a sparkly finish.  All the doors, hood, & trunk seat properly and latch well.  Car is being sold as is, where is.  Car may be picked up or I can arrange transportation for additional cost.

Nick Murray's problematic Porsche 911 shows the power of a viral video

Fri, 18 Apr 2014

When Nick Murray took delivery of his 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera S in June 2013, he had saved for it for the past five years. He didn't just pluck a random 911 off a dealer lot. He specially ordered his car with thousands of dollars in extras tailored just to him, and he captured all of the options on his YouTube channel. The love affair didn't last long. Eventually the channel became a place for Nick to air his growing list of grievances about his deteriorating 911. Eventually, his mix of righteous indignation and sarcasm went viral.
By late December, he had already had four warranty repairs done on the car. Things got much worse in March. The computers began resetting whenever Nick drove over large bumps. There was also an acrid, electrical smell that occasionally permeated the cabin. Murray filed for Lemon Law protection. Porsche Cars North America contacted him for the first time to fix the problem, but it didn't help.
Things culminated in April when Murray put up a new video that showed more troubles. He began arbitration with Porsche and asked for either his full purchase price back or an exact replacement. The company countered with a portion of what the car was worth, based on its mileage. Murray refused and turned to his YouTube watchers for help. He asked them to spread the word, and the video went viral with over 800,000 views as of this writing. Supporters posted it multiple times on Porsche's Facebook and Twitter sites.

Porsche patent sketches show removable headrest wind deflector

Mon, 21 Oct 2013

While driving around in a convertible might seem glamorous, ask anyone with long hair and they'll likely tell you how it really is: the wind buffets, your hair goes everywhere and it's anything but glamorous. That's why you see so many convertibles driving with their tops up, their windows up or wind deflectors in place. But Porsche is apparently preparing to kick it up to the next level.
These patent drawings have leaked out, demonstrating what appears to be some new kind of wind-deflecting device being developed by Porsche. The mechanism is apparently fitted to the headrest itself and designed to keep the wind buffeting specifically around the head down to a minimum while allowing the car's occupants to enjoy the top-down driving experience.
No word on when it might hit the market, but we won't be surprised to see this kind of device appear on a future version of the Boxster or 911 Cabriolet. But nowhere else: despite the apparent leak, the patent drawings suggest that Porsche will be keeping this technology proprietary. Whether sister brands like Volkswagen, Bentley or Lamborghini will get their hands on it remains to be seen.

Another cool projection vid, this time with a Porsche 911

Fri, 28 Dec 2012

Porsche has become the latest automaker to take advantage of clever projection technology. The automaker worked up a quick presentation for the 2013 911 Carrera 4S to show off a bit of "motionless driving." The display tracks the sports car from production to back-road caning and city-center cruising, displaying a variety of exterior color choices and wheel options without resorting to a two-dimensional video.
This isn't the first time we've seen an automaker use its new product as a projection screen. Subaru, Hyundai, Lamborghini and others have all done the same, and the trick never fails to be visually interesting.
As you may recall, we got to play with the 2013 911 Carrera 4S back in November and found the machine to be a better daily driver than its rear-wheel drive counterpart. You can check out the projection video below.
