Porsche: 1948 356-1 Custom Built Recreation "n01" on 2040-cars
Vista, California, United States
You are looking at a custom built recreation of the 1948 Porsche 356-1 known as "No1". Only one original 1948 356-01 was built and now resides at the "Porsche Museum" in Stuttgart, Germany. The value of this first Porsche is priceless. Regarding our listed vehicle here our original investment and creation of our 356-1 replicar was by the means of "Vintage Replicar" which has been creating original replicar's of the "No1" for over six years. We are not associated with any other company and or builder. We are the only company that builds/resto the "Type356-1" in the world. We take orders for those who want a specific color etc. This listing is for our existing demo car and is privately owned and an incentive for those who don't want to wait to have a car built.
This custom built 1948 356-1(resto/replica) is finished in Porsche silver, red leather and German oatmeal carpet. This 356-1 sports a brand new dual carb 1915cc horizontally opposed air cooled boxer engine. Only weighing aprox 1350 lbs it moves out just fine. We chose a tall fourth gear 4 speed transmission for enjoyable freeway driving. The transmission is maneuvered by a custom built steel shifter for consistent throws. Steering is from original parts that give it an authentic 356 feel. This vehicle registers in virtually all countries and all US States due to the original Vin # pan chassis used during this resto/build. This car was built with serious attention to detail and quality. Paint and body quality is valued around $9,800. We feel our build/resto is one of the highest builds possible. We feel between the build quality and the uniqueness gives it great value and collectibility. Nearly all parts of this fine machine had to be custom made or designed by us. Virtually all parts are NOT interchangeable with the "Speedster". Please do not confuse this beautiful recreation as a "Speedster" since Speedster's were built between 1954-1958 and the 356-1 originated in 1948 (Grandfather). Porsche 911 Aerodynamic prototype cheated the wind ahead of its time
Wed, 04 Jun 2014You might think that sports cars would have the lowest drag coefficient of all cars. And yes, they do tend to be more slippery than, say, SUVs or convertibles, but the sleekest vehicles on the road tend to be EVs, hybrids and luxury sedans. Sports cars, on the other hand, have aerodynamically detrimental needs for downforce and additional engine cooling. Still, the Porsche 911 is better than most, and has only gotten more so over the years. Its relatively narrow track and compact form mean it has a smaller frontal area than some other sports cars, and the gradual sweeping back of its headlights and windshield have only augmented its capacity for cheating the wind.
This 911 prototype, however, is even more aerodynamic than most. It's based on a "G model" 911 from 1984, but employed such features as covered wheels, a new rear spoiler and a reprofiled front end to drop its drag coefficient from 0.40 to 0.27, making it as slippery as a modern sedan and better at cheating the wind than just about anything built up to that point, save for maybe the Tatra 77, Citroën SM or Tucker Torpedo.
Elements of this prototype ended up gradually making it into production Porsches for years to come, and you can clearly see early influences on the second-generation 964 and even on the 959. It's featured here as the latest installment in a video series on rare historic Porsches unearthed from the company archives, following previous clips that featured a rare V8-powered 911 and a mid-engined 911 prototype. Scope out the latest episode in the video below.
McLaren P1 vs Porsche 918 vs Ducati 1199 Superleggera in epic standing-mile drag race
Fri, 10 Oct 2014We live in a high-tech supercar renaissance, with the Porsche 918 Spyder, McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari all duking it out for performance supremacy. All three members of this power trio place the engine behind the driver and use some kind of hybrid assist. However, each one finds a slightly different way to make that setup work. While all of the tech is insanely cool, let's just admit that we are all really wondering which one is the quickest and which is the fastest. Autocar aims to find out in a new video pitting two of them against a surprise challenger in the standing mile.
Unfortunately, the race is missing the Ferrari, despite Autocar's best efforts. So instead, it has another limited-edition, high-performance vehicle from Italy in the form of the Ducati 1199 Superleggera. The bike has just two cylinders, but at 1.2-liters of displacement, it makes over 200 horsepower, and all that gumption is packaged into a magnesium monocoque body with carbon fiber bodywork to keep weight low. Granted, the cycle is going up against the 875-hp Porsche and 903-hp McLaren, but traction, aerodynamics and gearing all play a part in this fascinating video.
There's no sense in ruining the winner before watching, but Autocar teases that the finish is one of its closest drag races ever. Check out the video to find out just what that means.
These three automotive Lego kits deserve your suppoort
Sat, Mar 25 2017Lego has been quite good to car enthusiasts over the past few years. We've seen traditional kits for the classic VW Microbus, Mini Cooper, and the Caterham 620R, as well as an elaborate Technic kit for the 911 GT3 RS. But why stop there? The Lego Ideas page, which allows users to submit ideas with the chance to see their kits reach production, has many more cool car kits we'd love to see. Check them out below, and be sure to log on to vote for them. If a submission hits 10,000 votes, it is considered for production. That's how we got that Caterham kit, so it's worth your time to show your support. Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 This is a submission aimed at becoming one of Lego's Speed Champions kits. These are very small mini-figure scale car models, and the series has included the Ford GT, Audi R18 Le Mans racer, and more. This kit features a tiny version of the Peugeot 205 Turbo 16, a Group B rally racer that gave Peugeot World Rally Championship titles two years in a row. The kit has a well-executed version of the car and its massive rear spoiler on the hatch. It also comes with a big dirt crest for it to fly over, along with amazed spectators on the sidelines. Porsche 911 Turbo 930 We love the GT3 RS Lego kit, but we think it's a little lonely as the only Porsche kit available. Such an impressive Porsche deserves an impressive companion, like this 911 Turbo. It's the 930 version, which is arguably the most famous classic 911 with its turbocharged power, whale-tail wing, and scary driving dynamics thanks to considerable turbo lag and rear-engine handling characteristics. This model is quite large at 1:10 scale, and comes with a detailed interior and exterior. The best part is the remote-control components underneath that allow the car to be driven. Jeep Wrangler JK Moving off the beaten path again, we have this highly detailed Wrangler kit. Actually, we have two kits, as the creator designed both two-door and four-door versions. They both feature removable hard tops, detailed interiors, and big tires. They also come with an assortment of off-road accessories such as auxiliary lights, an off-road jack, winch, gas can, roof rack, and off-road bumper. You can also find various fluid reservoirs and engine details under the opening hood.
