Beautiful T1a Silver/red 356a Coupe Garaged Ca 100% Factory-metal Flrs #match 56 on 2040-cars
1957 Porsche 356A Coupe 1600, rare original silver/red color combination, 100% solid factory-metal floors. An early T1A Coupe that has been garage-kept in California since new, same title since 1970. Original numbers-matching engine with original carburetors, excellent running condition. Original Blaupunkt radio, speaker covers, steering wheel and shift knob. Restored approximately 25 years ago to factory specifications, still shows beautifully. No rust repairs anywhere in the floors, wheel wells, longitudinal or jack points - all original solid metal. Please note that all the factory undercarriage spot welds are visible and pristine, every nut easy to turn, hallmarks of a garaged California early Porsche. (Even good California cars often need some metal replacement in the floors or longitudinals, only cars garaged since day one look this original underneath). No restoration work has been performed on this car in over 20 years, other than mechanical upkeep. The date-stamped original gas tank was recently cleaned and re-lined, and brakes are redone. New tires were installed last week. Paint is approximately 25 years old and shows beautiful. The previous owners have large commercial real estate holdings in the Northern SF Bay Peninsula. They own one of the largest collections of early slot machines in California, and this Porsche 356A was stored the past 25 years amongst their vast array of early California memorabilia. Many of the slot machines are worth over $250,000, and this Porsche was a fitting part of this treasure trove. We specialize in early Porsche models, and I was excited to acquire this wonderful T1A Coupe and present it here. (The COA is on order, but Porsche North America already verified the original color combination and engine number by phone). We are a licensed California dealer: California retail buyers will be responsible for tax and license fees. Overseas buyers are welcome: We work closely with a local shipper in Hayward, California, that offers competitive rates. Please complete any inspections prior to bidding. Thanks for looking! Leno, Seinfeld and a Porsche 356/2 featured in latest CICGC
Sun, 19 Jan 2014In the latest kaffeeklatsch known as Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Jerry Seinfeld pulls Jay Leno out of his garage for a trip to Jones Coffee in Pasadena, CA. The NBC funnyman we've lately seen driving two guest Porsches in his eponymous garage this time takes the passenger seat in a 1949 Porsche 356/2, one of early all-aluminum, hand-built coupes - still in 100-percent original condition - built in Gmund, Austria and nicknamed "Gmunds."
The comedy veterans have known one another for 35 years, so the episode is rich with stories of The Good Old Days. Leno says it is also the first time he's ever had a cup of coffee, and for obvious comedic reasons they start with the civet-stained beans made famous in The Bucket List. You can watch Leno take his first sip below, and have you haven't heard the joke about the goat and the anvil, scroll on down for a listen to that and one or two more jokes besides.
McLaren rules out Porsche Cayman competitor
Mon, Nov 30 2015McLaren has gone downmarket with the introduction of its new Sports Series, but don't expect it to go any lower than that. So while the 570S goes up against the Audi R8 and Porsche 911 Turbo, the likes of the TT and Cayman can rest easy. Speaking with Autocar, McLaren designer Robert Melville ruled out the prospect of developing a sports car positioned lower than the Sports Series. Melville dismissed the idea of a Cayman rival from Woking as "a step too far" and "not exclusive enough" for McLaren. "You look at Ferrari. They are coming from very high end. [The 570S] is stretching us down to R8s and 911s and is as low as we'd want to come." The limit may be dictated, more than anything, by the building blocks. The newly introduced Sports Series adopts the same essential hard points as the higher-end Super Series (650S) and Ultimate Series (P1). Like its more expensive siblings, it features a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and bolted to the back of a carbon monocoque chassis. Only instead of selling for $265k like the 650S or over $1 million like the P1, the 570S will retail for under $190k. Volume is how the manufacturer aims to make up the difference. In fact McLaren stands to generate as much revenue (if not necessarily the same profit margin) selling 2,500 units in the Sports Series each year as it has producing all 375 examples of the P1. Making those same building blocks available at a lower price point – or developing an entirely new set – would be an entirely different proposition... one which McLaren is evidently less than keen to undertake. So while we can look forward to new versions of the Sports Series to follow – including Spider and GT variants soon to follow – more commonplace stablemate appears to be off the table. Top Gear teases Porsche 918 vs McLaren P1 vs LaFerrari showdown
Mon, Jan 5 2015It's the comparison test we've been waiting over a year to come together: the hybrid hypercar showdown of the century between the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 Spyder and Ferrari LaFerrari. They've each got hybrid powertrains pairing eight or more cylinders with an electric motor to drive around 900 horsepower through seven-speed dual-clutch transmissions. They come from exotic automakers with rich racing pedigrees, and each costs around a million bucks. Leave it to the guys from Top Gear, then, to finally put it together. The story adorns the cover of this month's issue of Top Gear magazine, which arranged the showdown – not the television program that started it all. Fortunately, they didn't miss the opportunity to capture the action on video, which will be available to iPad subscribers – but whether you've got access or not, you can catch a short clip of the seven-figure hybrid hypercars right here.
