Offered for sale is an absolutely gorgeous, exceptionally original, award-winning, matching-numbers 1962 Porsche 356 B Super cabriolet in striking factory correct Smyrna Green over Brown leather seats. The 1600 Super was created as a high- performance option to the regular 1600, offering 15 more horsepower with larger valves, increased compression, and improved performance. Featuring the more sought-after T6 body style with twin-engine grilles on the deck lid, and an outside (rather than in the trunk) fuel filler, this best-of-the-breed 356 B 1600 Super is highly desirable. A well-loved example, the car presents wonderfully and has an extensively documented provenance.

On December 2, 1961, Richard Steppler walked into the Volkswagen—Porsche dealership owned by Dr. Guy Beretich in Pordenone, Italy, and bought himself an early Christmas present – this magnificent 356 B Porsche. Eventually Mr. Steppler passed the car to his nephew, Richard Kubacki, and it is known that the car stayed in Europe (primarily Munich, Germany, and Monte Carlo) until 1968, when it was shipped to Chicago. At some point the car was repainted silver and in 1988 it was purchased by its most recent owner (of 25 years) in Milwaukee with 79,000 miles on the clock.

Under his stewardship the car was systematically stripped and returned to its original color – the stunning Glasurit Syrmna Green you see it dressed in today, complete with wheels of the same color. The brakes were overhauled, the engine was gone through, and the top half of the motor was rebuilt with new heads so that the car could run on unleaded gas in the United States. Despite these vital improvements, the car’s originality was respectfully maintained and the car still has its original radio, luggage rack, date-stamped wheels, six-volt electrical system, and exceedingly rare and valuable complete tool kit with Porsche-inscribed wrenches. In addition, much of the interior of the car is as it was the day it left the factory with the same steering wheel, gently worn brown leather seats, headlights, dash panel knobs, and clock. The soft top has been freshly replaced with the correct German Happich material and the carpets have been correctly redone. The car’s undercarriage and battery box are immaculate and completely free of rust and the car is an absolute joy to drive.

Its unusual preservation and exquisite aesthetics made it a perennial favorite at car shows, allowing it to claim many first, second, and third place trophies, plus over 30 other award plaques, many of which came from Porsche Club of America events. The car also made appearances in An Eye for an Eye, a movie set in Chicago in 1991, as well as an advertisement for Cellular One.

This fully documented matching-numbers car comes with the rare, signed, early Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and the original sales receipt showing the purchase price from the dealership in Italy, with the Italian tax stamps dated 1961. Also included in the sale are boxes upon boxes of Porsche-stamped spare parts, the original boot cover (plus a traveling boot), Porsche car cover, trophies and awards, original Porsche sales brochures and the original owner’s manual.

The rare and original color combination, strong-running Super engine, popular T6 body, and legendary reliability make this exceptional, fully documented 356 B the perfect Porsche enthusiast’s choice, deserving of serious consideration from anyone in the market for an exceptional 356.

We want this car to go to great home and would be happy to further discuss it and answer any questions, so please feel free to email us or call us at 805-202-4557. You can also visit us online at GoodmanReed.

We’ve always had an appreciation for classic European cars and over the years have created an eclectic personal collection. We only buy cars that we’d personally be interested in owning and generally only sell them to make room for other acquisitions. Sadly, that time has come for this Porsche (if the price is right, of course - this isn't a fire sale). We try to give accurate descriptions of the cars we’re selling, but we’re enthusiasts, not experts, and we encourage and are happy to help facilitate personal or professional inspections. But please do so before bidding, as the alternative harms our ability to make sales to other interested parties who have done their proper due diligence before bidding.

For U.S. buyers a 10% non-refundable deposit is required within 3 days of the auction’s end, the balance to be paid within 7 days of the auction’s end. Foreign buyers must pay in full within 7 business days of the auction’s end. Buyer is responsible for shipping, however we’d be more that happy to help with recommendations and arrangements. The car is listed locally and we reserve the right to end the auction at any time should it sell prior to auction’s end. Thanks for your interest.

Porsche Australia price cuts in excess of $36,000 irks customers

Tue, 04 Jun 2013

Have you ever gone to the store, only to become irked after learning that the new [*insert widget here*] that you bought just last week has gone through a price drop? If you're particularly thrifty, even if it's only a couple of bucks, you probably brought in your receipt to see if the store would issue you a credit for the difference. Now, imagine that the widget in question isn't a minor purchase, it's a Porsche - and the price drop isn't just a few bucks - it's thousands.
That's the unhappy scenario that recently faced a number of Australian luxury car buyers and the uncomfortable conversation awaiting the German automaker. According to GoAuto, Porsche Australia recently whacked up to $36,000 off the price of its models in order to jumpstart sales Down Under - the Panamera range itself saw cuts between $5,500 and more than $36,000. The aggressive price cut was a strategy designed to drive sales of more than 3,000 cars locally, a yearly goal originally set for 2018, but now hoped for as early as 2016.
Australia is known for its comparatively high car prices, so the dramatic price cuts were undoubtedly welcome news to potential Porsche shoppers. However, around 50 existing customers were understandably agitated by the reductions because they purchased their cars just before the adjustments took effect. Not only did they stand to lose out on the deals, they also had good reason to fear that their new cars' residual values would take a beating.

Revel in the glory of the Porsche 911 engine factory

Fri, Jan 2 2015

A flat-six engine pumping away behind the driver defines the Porsche brand for many people, whether they are buying a Boxster, Cayman or 911. If you want to appreciate the sound and fury concentrated in the rear of these German sports cars even more, then take a tour of the company's 911 engine factory in Zuffenhausen, Germany, to see the work that goes into each one. We're long past the days of automotive assembly lines being deafening, dirty affairs, but it's still somewhat shocking to see just how sterile the plant in Zuffenhausen is. Each person wears a matching gray jumpsuit and gloves, and there's not a drop of grease of them. While the components are constantly coming down the line, there doesn't appear to be much of a rush. It's just a slow, steady movement that gives workers time to complete their appointed tasks. At least in this video, the employees don't even seem to talk to each other; the only sound is the hum of the plant or whir of tools. It's transfixing to watch these famous engine slowly come together largely from human hands. News Source: Cars via YouTube Plants/Manufacturing Porsche Technology Performance Videos engine

Porsche, Jaguar continue dominance in 2015 JD Power APEAL study

Wed, Jul 22 2015

The top of JD Power's 2015 APEAL Study has not changed much in the last year. Porsche remains No. 1 with Jaguar nipping at its heels, although both premium brands saw their overall score fall compared to 2014. For those that need a refresher, the APEAL Study looks at how "gratifying" a vehicle is to own and drive, rating cars and brands on a 1,000-point scale. The industry average for 2015 has increased from 794 to 798, while the total number of automakers that finished above the curve increased from 16 to 20. While Porsche and Jaguar finished at the top, their scores dropped eight and seven points, respectively, to 874 and 855. The top "non-premium" brand was Mini, which scored an impressive 825, up from 795. If the BMW-owned British marque is still a bit too premium for your tastes, last year's non-premium winner, Hyundai, did climb five points and is this year's runner up. At the opposite end of the scale, Smart sits at the very bottom of the rankings, with a score of 683 (it didn't appear on the 2014 rankings). Fiat also dropped, from fourth worst in 2014 to second worst in 2015, despite the 500 being named most appealing city car. Subaru made an impressive climb, from third worst to seventh, falling just 10 points shy of the industry average and two points south of the non-premium average. In the individual vehicle segments, eight brands earned multiple awards, with Ford, Chevrolet, and Porsche earning three apiece. Surprise segment victories included the new Ford Expedition, which beat out Chevy's popular Suburban. The Infiniti QX80 bested the likes of the Cadillac Escalade and Range Rover for best large luxury SUV, and the Dodge Challenger beat its muscle car rivals from Ford and Chevy. Most of the victories, though, were quite predictable. The Mazda6 and CX-5 took wins for the midsize sedan and compact SUV categories respectively, while the Volkswagen Golf captured the compact car win. The Ford F-150 won the large pickup category, while the Porsche Cayman was named most appealing compact premium sporty car.
