1960 PORSCHE SUPER

Black on Black Roadster Cabriolet

Original California Yellow Plate Car

I purchased my Porsche 356 SUPER at the prestigious Monterey Classics about 15 years ago. It started out as a very straight original Californian restoration. A very fine example of what I was looking for.  I always wanted a 1960 Porsche Cabriolet in Black and with this car being so straight and un-molested, I knew I could achieve my dream car with this one.

Over the years, I improved on this car by having the motor rebuilt by Elite Automotive, a highly respectable engine builder of high end cars.  The "SUPER engine differs from the normal engines by higher performance and greater torque". I spent close to $15k for the build (see invoices) Total Engine rebuild which include opening all oil ports for better oil flow and adding an external oil filter for better dependability.

Inside the car:

The Leather Interior is in excellent condition as well as the Carpet, Seats with added Head Rests, Fold Down rear seats, Headliner, Door Panels, CoCo Floor Mats and Stay Fast Cloth Convertible Top. All Interior Chrome in excellent condition as well. All gauges work. Radio and Clock stopped working. My friend next door with his CNC machine shop built a beautiful billet aluminum radio bezel to replace the cracked plastic original bezel. It complements the Nardi Aluminum Spoke wood steering wheel nicely.

Exterior:

I took my Porsche to an Old School Painter named Jav. He paints cars that include old classic Porsches, Ferraris and Lamborghinis. He takes only one car at a time and the duration is about 6 months to completion. Everything was stripped from the car. On my Porsche he stripped the entire exterior of all the paint using just a single sided razor blade! He expanded why. He said this curvaceous body has no flat panels so why use a long straight edge to strip paint and risk damage to the curves? It made sense, but very time consuming as he didn’t use paint stripper as well to prevent contamination to the paint. He would then lightly  hand sand the car down perfectly smooth. Painted with a high Quality paint in Porsche Raven Black with several coats of color sanded Glasso Clear to give it debt. The paint on my car is flawless!

All the panels were painted off the car and realigned to leave perfect spaced door gaps to the Hood, Trunk and both Doors. (see pics)

In the front storage compartment you will find the original floor jack, New 12V Bosch battery and convertible top boot. All is detailed (see pics)

The Engine Compartment is detailed as well as under the car. The original Floor Pan is very nice with no damage or rust repair. One of the main reasons I purchased a California Original. I have a folder of receipts of improvements I made to the car over the years. This car needs nothing.

My car drives straight and smooth and doesn’t miss a beat with the engine. It runs perfect with no room to improve on it.  All shifting linkage is tight with replaced shifter bushings. New Tires and Chrome on the wheels and caps are excellent.

There is absolutly nothing needed for this car except for maybe replacing the original internals in the radio and upgrading the clock to a Quartz movement.

I occasionally take it out for a ride on nice days and it gets it share of compliments and looks. You will be hard pressed to find a better 1960 Porsche Super than this one. Happy bidding!

NOTE: Both Original Yellow Plates are in excellant condition. If you see any white spots on the paint (one being on the edge of the rear deck lid) they are reflections. Please look at other angles of the same location. There is absolutly No SCRATCHES, CHIPS or SCUFF MARKS on this car. Paint was completed last month.

I am selling a used car so car is sold as is where is with no warranties implied or given. Pickup is the buyer’s responsibility. I will assist in any way possible. Car can be delivered locally to a transit company for International shipping.

I recommend for you to come and see the car, you won’t be disappointed. It’s much nicer looking in person. Pictures do it no justice.

Autocar pits Porsche 911 Turbo S against Formula 4 racer

Fri, 20 Jun 2014

There is a long-running argument among performance car fans: power vs. weight. In one corner you get cars generally with small engines making modest numbers but able to corner like they are telepathic, and in the other there are big thumping mills that are rocketships in a straight line but lumber in the turns. Autocar takes an interesting look this continuum in a recent video pitting a 552-hp Porsche 911 Turbo S against a 185-hp Formula 4 racecar. It hopes to find whether the Porsche's huge power advantage is enough to defeat the better grip and aero offered by the nimble racer.
There's no doubt that the Porsche is an utterly fantastic road car. The 911 Turbo looks mean with all of those intakes to suck in cool air, and it backs up the posture with huge amounts of grip available thanks to its all-wheel drive-system. However, at 3,538 pounds, it's a bit of a porker compared to the 1,135-pound Formula 4 car. The open-wheel car boasts just a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder from Ford and a six-speed sequential-manual gearbox, but it has loads of downforce to make up for it.
It shouldn't be a surprise that the formula car wins in the corners. After all, that's what it's made for. So do you think the massive horsepower superiority of the Porsche is enough to even the playing field? Scroll down to watch the video and find out, and even if you're not curious of the winner the 911 does some mean powerslides.

The 2014 Ruf RCT offers rear-drive action with 911 Turbo fun

Wed, 05 Mar 2014

Ruf has 37 years of experience of turning Porsches into even higher performance machines. For the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, it's unveiling the RCT, or Ruf Carrera Turbo, which offers power to split the difference between Porsche's 911 Turbo and Turbo S models.
The RCT starts with a unique body kit with a new front air dam and drastically changed rear deck that combines both a small spoiler and air intake. Power is provided by a twin-turbocharged, 3.8-liter flat-six with 525 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque paired to either a seven-speed manual or seven-speed dual clutch transmission. That gives the Ruf a 5-hp and 15-lb-ft advantage over Porsche's own Turbo but is still less powerful than the full Turbo S. The RCT sprints to 62 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds and to a top speed of 196 mph.
However, the Ruf's big advantage is that it offers buyers the choice of either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, while Stuttgart's turbo models are only available spinning all four wheels. The RCT can also offers upgrades like an integrated roll cage and custom suspension packages, should the buyer be so inclined to splash out on racing kit.

Jack Olsen built one Porsche to do it all

Wed, 23 Jan 2013

Jack Olsen has built himself a lair called the 12-Gauge Garage, and inside that garage he built a lairy Porsche 911 nicknamed Black Beauty II. Although it looks like one of Stuttgart's models from the sixties or seventies, it is actually four decades of 911 gubbins from 1965 to 2000 thrown under one shell: the lightweight body is from 1972, the transaxle from 1977, the brakes from a 1986 Turbo, the engine from 1995, for example. It weighs 2,400 pounds and it's got 272 horsepower to get it going, but it's still a pure Porsche, Olsen saying, "If you stop thinking about what you're doing, it will remind you in very abrupt ways."
Olsen said the real point has been to have one car that does it all, so he does everything in his 911 from neighborhood runs to 7-11 to track racing - he loads the aero bits in the car and bolts them on trackside. And he says he'll never stop tweaking the suspension.
You can watch and hear the rest in Olsen's words in the video below.
