Description

1959 PORSCHE 356A/1600 REUTTER CABRIOLET

1959 PORSCHE 356A/1600 REUTTER CABRIOLET

This 1959 Porsche 356A/1600 Reutter Cabriolet has undergone a just completed concours level restoration with the help of the nation’s top Porsche experts and restorers, resulting in one of the most unique and desirable Porsche 356 Cabriolets in existence. Prior to its uncompromising restoration, this 1959 Porsche 356A/1600 Reutter Cabriolet had been in the care of the same family since 1974. They were excellent stewards of such a wholly unique piece of Porsche motoring history, and can be credited with caring for its absolutely solid and uncorrupted platform; without which this incredible restoration would have not had such original and immaculate beginnings. The result presented here is the culmination of locating the most solid, original, and complete 1959 Porsche 356A/1600 Reutter Cabriolet to be found, and then lavishing it with the expertise, knowledge, and craftsmanship of the best Porsche restorers in the nation. Nothing was left to chance. Every detail was researched, scrutinized, and contemplated by the best minds in the business. It is without question among the most unique and desirable of the marque, and is now ready for its reintroduction to the world to be admired and envied.

This 1959 Porsche 356A/1600 Reutter Cabriolet is finished in an incredibly rare and desirable combination of colors and interior materials, making it possibly the only one of its kind. The numbers matching engine, transmission, wheels, colors, and interior materials are all factory correct and beyond reproach. The care, expense, and time poured into this beautiful machine are unsurpassed.

To obtain the precisely correct hues, the factory Ivory and Ruby Red colors were mixed with help from John Wilhoit of Wilhoit Restorations; the same experts who worked their paint magic on Jerry Seinfeld’s Porsche 908. The upholstery was stitched to factory specifications by Tony Garcia at Autobahn Interiors of San Diego, perfectly duplicating the Red Leatherette with Corduroy Inserts; an almost unheard of combination to be specified in a Reutter Cabriolet. The USA specification overrider bumpers were hand crafted by Bob Chase of Gray Eagle Overrider Bars, the undisputed best in the business, giving the car the that final crowning touch. Every facet of this restoration received unmitigated attention from the finest craftsmen, and most knowledgeable Porsche experts in the nation.

An automobile of such unquestionable provenance in such rare and desirable colors and equipment is rarely offered publicly for purchase; normally changing hands privately between collectors and enthusiasts. This is an opportunity nearly as rare as the automobile seen before you, making this an occasion to be seized upon before this amazing 1959 Porsche 356A/1600 Reutter Cabriolet disappears back into another private collection. Classic Porsches are among the most prized and valuable of all collector cars in the world, and their skyrocketing values have reflected this incredible demand. Do not let hesitation on this opportunity transform into regret. Please contact one of our expert sales consultants for more information. They will be happy to give you a complete walk-around, supply you with a more detailed description, and answer any questions you may have. Bid with confidence – for over 40 years Daniel Schmitt & Co. has built an unrivaled reputation by uniting the world’s finest motorcars with those who treasure them.

Porsche working on turbo V12 for Putin limo project?

Fri, 24 Oct 2014

Porsche is best known for building very well-regarded sports cars and better-selling utility vehicles. Come to the company with a big enough bag of cash, though, and the Porsche Engineering division can create just about anything. The group's past projects include working with Harley-Davidson, Mercedes-Benz and corporate cousin Audi, but if rumors prove true, then its latest partner might be the last one you'd expect.
Russian website Wroom reports that Porsche Engineering is building the engine for the Project Cortege government limousine project for Russian president Vladimir Putin. The mill is supposedly a turbocharged V12 displacing between 6.0- and 6.6-liters and making around 800 horsepower. When complete, it will reportedly be built by ZMZ with Russian-sourced parts.
The limo is expected to debut in 2017, according to Wroom, but it's just the beginning of Putin's grandiose plans, which also goes by the name of the Motorcade Project. The same platform is also meant to underpin several vehicles for use by the government, including an SUV, a small bus and a sedan. All of them would reportedly have a longitudinally mounted engine and all-wheel drive.

Jack Olsen built one Porsche to do it all

Wed, 23 Jan 2013

Jack Olsen has built himself a lair called the 12-Gauge Garage, and inside that garage he built a lairy Porsche 911 nicknamed Black Beauty II. Although it looks like one of Stuttgart's models from the sixties or seventies, it is actually four decades of 911 gubbins from 1965 to 2000 thrown under one shell: the lightweight body is from 1972, the transaxle from 1977, the brakes from a 1986 Turbo, the engine from 1995, for example. It weighs 2,400 pounds and it's got 272 horsepower to get it going, but it's still a pure Porsche, Olsen saying, "If you stop thinking about what you're doing, it will remind you in very abrupt ways."
Olsen said the real point has been to have one car that does it all, so he does everything in his 911 from neighborhood runs to 7-11 to track racing - he loads the aero bits in the car and bolts them on trackside. And he says he'll never stop tweaking the suspension.
You can watch and hear the rest in Olsen's words in the video below.

Porsche Boxster/Cayman GTS, Macan, 911 Targa details leaked

Fri, 27 Sep 2013

The folks over at Jalopnik have published some rather interesting images from what looks to be a presentation held inside Porsche's North American headquarters in Atlanta, GA. What these leaked photos reveal is pretty significant - details about several of the brand's upcoming launches, including GTS versions of the Boxster and Cayman, a new 911 Targa, and information about the Macan crossover that will debut at this year's Los Angeles Auto Show. Of course, none of this information has been officially verified, but it all looks and sounds pretty believable to us. So, let's dig in.
First up, Porsche will launch the Boxster and Cayman GTS models at next year's Beijing Motor Show in April. Upgrades for the GTS models will include a 15-horsepower bump, standard manual transmission (with optional dual-clutch PDK), standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and a slightly quicker 0-60 time. Jalopnik reports that these models will cost around $75,000.
We've spied the soon-to-be-revealed Porsche Macan (pictured right) on several occasions, and these slides suggest that the small crossover will have two different types of turbo power under its hood. The Macan S will use a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6, while the Macan Turbo will use a 3.6-liter unit. Seven-speed PDK transmissions are expected to be fitted to both, and this leaked information states that the new, small Porsche will cost $52,000 and $75,000 for the S and Turbo versions, respectively.
