1958 PORSCHE 356 SPEEDSTER

CALIFORNIA CAR-SAME OWNER FOR OVER 33 YEARS!

OFFERED FROM A PRIVATE COLLECTION FOR THE FIRST TIME IN OVER THREE DECADES!

In the early 80's, after a considerable amount of searching, the current owner purchased a super original, rust free,

                    un-molested example of the iconic Porsche 356 Speedster. Critical in his search were the following criteria;

  •          Rust free and without body damage
  •          Correct and as authentic as possible, without modifications
  •          Factory correct color, preferably Ruby Red
  •          Original matching number drivetrain

Although an extremely nice original example when purchased, the new owner had the desire and wherewithall to

enhance the condition of his new aquisition. With the help of some of the best craftsmen in Southern California,

he was able to preserve and upgrade his Speedster to the level at which it is presented for sale today.

BODY AND PAINTWORK- The body panels and sheetmetal are original to the car, which has never suffered from rust or rot.

Before the car was repainted over 25yrs. ago, it was stripped to bare metal and metal finished so that an absolute

minimum of any type of filler was used. It was resprayed in the correct Porsche Ruby Red, the same color it left

the factory and for which it is coded. Although the paint is almost 25 years old, it could pass as having been painted

within the last five years. As is the case with most high quality respays, there are no signs of checking or dullness in the

finish. Within the last 5 years, Coachcraft, of Filmore CA. was retained to freshen-up various areas of the Speedster.

Over $25,000. was spent to detail and freshen-up various areas such as engine compartment and undercarriage, pull

and reseal the engine, rebuild carburators, rebuild the trans-axle, new shocks, brakes etc. A comprehensive list of

work performed can be supplied to interested parties.

INTERIOR AND TOP- In approximately 1989 the interior and top were completely refurbished by Thomas Tops of Hollywood

California, well known in Porsche circles for their exacting and authentic interiors and tops. The scope of work

performed included rebuilding and covering the Speedster leather bucket seats, new German square-weave

carpeting and correct rubber floor mats, new German canvas convertible top and side curtains, new leather dash

cover, new leather door panels and a vinyl top tonneau. The cost was over $6,500.00 and the quality speaks for

itself. Although 25yrs.old, the interior and top are still in excellent condition and look virtually new.

OVERALL CONDITION- Most trim and mouldings are original to the car and are in very nice to excellent condition. The

wheels are obviously not correct and are the wider 15" wheels typically installed to enhance handling. The

Nardi steering wheel was on the car when purchased, the original steering wheel is not with the car. The Speedster is

available for inspection by appointment to serious qualified bidders.

Petrolicious profiles the rare Italian Porschephile

Wed, Sep 9 2015

If you're Italian, you love Ferrari. It's almost a national requirement. If not Ferrari, then Lamborghini, or if you're a bit contrarian, perhaps Alfa Romeo or Maserati. This common belief, though, flies in the face of Rosita Corato's devotion to a certain unique Porsche. Despite growing up around cars from Italy's most treasured automakers, Rosita's family of coachbuilders had a passion for Porsche. This love was fostered by her father, who made a living repairing Ferraris. Despite his work, he'd longed for a rear-engined German, finally picking up a 1959 356 Speedster that was in desperate need of restoration. Rosita describes it as "practically a heap of metal" before her masterful metalworking father got to work on it. While it was originally meant to be a racer, it could best be described today as a restomod, and Rosita still uses it regularly on rallies. The engine and brakes have been upgraded, while the ratios on the manual transmission have been tightened up for improved performance. To save weight – remember, Rosita's father wanted a racer – the doors and hood were replaced with aluminum units, while other aesthetic upgrades were made as well, such as moving the fuel access up onto the hood. Check out Rosita's gorgeous 356 Speedster in the very latest episode from the team at Petrolicious. Related Video:

Porsche releases new Panamera Edition models

Mon, Mar 30 2015

We can't remember the last time we came across a special edition called "Edition," but that's what Porsche is offering with the Panamera. Available on the base, 310-horsepower models, the Panamera Edition is so subtle you'd need to be in the secret owners club to identify it. High-gloss black trim strips outline the windows, it sits on 19-inch Panamera Turbo wheels with colored center caps, the sills are inscribed with the word "Edition," and body-colored door handles are fitted if you pay extra for Porsche Entry & Drive. The cabin gets Porsche logos in the seat headrests, those front thrones being 14-way in the US, climate controlled seats throughout, and a two-tone treatment in black and Luxor Beige. Oh, and special floor mats. Performance upgrades come in the inclusion of active suspension, and convenience comes with the included Park Assist. Tempted? Head to your Porsche dealer in June to take one home. The Panamera Edition will require $80,000, an eminently reasonable (for Porsche) $1,900 premium over the standard car. The Panamera 4 Edition needs $84,300, an even more reasonable $1,500 premium. Destination adds another $995 to both of those prices. The press release below has a few more details. Related Video: Porsche Panamera Edition: Sports sedan with extensive standard features Atlanta. A new special version of the Porsche Panamera sports sedan stands out through elegant styling combined with a significantly expanded range of standard equipment. Two models with powerful six-cylinder engines will be offered: the Panamera Edition and Panamera 4 Edition both come with an engine that delivers 310 hp. The Panamera 4 Edition features active all-wheel drive with an electronically controlled, map-controlled multi-plate clutch (Porsche Traction Management, PTM). The exterior of the Panamera Edition models is marked by additional subtle design tones, including high-gloss black trim strips on the side windows. The standard 19-inch alloy wheels in Panamera Turbo II design feature wheel center caps with a colored Porsche crest. The door handles are finished in exterior color when Porsche Entry & Drive is optionally selected. The Panamera Edition also boasts a two-tone standard interior in Black / Luxor Beige with the Porsche crest embossed on all head rests, Sport Design steering wheel, door sill plates with "Edition" lettering, and special floor mats.

A car writer's year in new vehicles [w/video]

Thu, Dec 18 2014

Christmas is only a week away. The New Year is just around the corner. As 2014 draws to a close, I'm not the only one taking stock of the year that's we're almost shut of. Depending on who you are or what you do, the end of the year can bring to mind tax bills, school semesters or scheduling dental appointments. For me, for the last eight or nine years, at least a small part of this transitory time is occupied with recalling the cars I've driven over the preceding 12 months. Since I started writing about and reviewing cars in 2006, I've done an uneven job of tracking every vehicle I've been in, each year. Last year I made a resolution to be better about it, and the result is a spreadsheet with model names, dates, notes and some basic facts and figures. Armed with this basic data and a yen for year-end stories, I figured it would be interesting to parse the figures and quantify my year in cars in a way I'd never done before. The results are, well, they're a little bizarre, honestly. And I think they'll affect how I approach this gig in 2015. {C} My tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015 it'll be as high as 73. Let me give you a tiny bit of background about how automotive journalists typically get cars to test. There are basically two pools of vehicles I drive on a regular basis: media fleet vehicles and those available on "first drive" programs. The latter group is pretty self-explanatory. Journalists are gathered in one location (sometimes local, sometimes far-flung) with a new model(s), there's usually a day of driving, then we report back to you with our impressions. Media fleet vehicles are different. These are distributed to publications and individual journalists far and wide, and the test period goes from a few days to a week or more. Whereas first drives almost always result in a piece of review content, fleet loans only sometimes do. Other times they serve to give context about brands, segments, technology and the like, to editors and writers. So, adding up the loans I've had out of the press fleet and things I've driven at events, my tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015, it'll be as high as 73. At one of the buff books like Car and Driver or Motor Trend, reviewers might rotate through five cars a week, or more. I know that number sounds high, but as best I can tell, it's pretty average for the full-time professionals in this business.
