1957 Porsche 356a Speedster Repica on 2040-cars
San Antonio, Texas, United States
This is a garage kept, 1957 Porsche 356A
speedster replica. It was factory built by Vintage Speedsters out of Hawaiian
Gardens California, in 2000. The odometer on this vehicle is metric, at 20,091
kilometers or approximately 12400 miles. I have owned this car for five years
and conducted routine maintenance, as well as many mechanical and cosmetic
upgrades; most notably, improved paint, brakes and exhaust. This car is driven
routinely, but only in optimal conditions, approximately once a week, on days
off, with good weather. I will provide a full maintenance history for whom ever
purchases this car. Scheduled maintenance was conducted
routinely every 3000 miles like clockwork. The engine is spotless, with no grease or oil spills. The oil in the case is clear, clean and near translucent.
Power Plant: 1600 cc air cooled, Volkswagen engine, with dual carbs which produce about 90 HP (an original Porsche 356 would only produce about 75 HP ), with a 4-speed manual transmission. Unlike the originals, this car possesses a beefed up suspension, 12 volt electrical (as opposed to 6 volt) and disc brakes. It is reliable, safe and fun to drive. New upgraded wooden Nardi steering wheel, driving lights, mesh stone guards, Authentic Badging (from Stoddard), Original Porsche Crested Super Hub Caps (from Stoddard), with leather rally hood straps that mimic James Dean’s “Lil Bastard” 550S. The total value for the fore mentioned upgrades is at $2600 installed, with an additional $2200 for the improved paint and clear coat. The convertible
top is in average condition and hardly used. Some wear is apparent, and one snap is broken. If you anticipate using the top
routinely, I would replace it at some point, but it is not urgent and is fully
functional. As there is some wear on it, and the rest of the car is pristine,
the wear on the top becomes noticeable to an observant eye, but not obvious.
(see photos) The previous owner had never used the convertible top, and I have
never taken it out in the rain. Effectively, I put the top up for the photos to
show the completeness of the car. It has upgraded canvas side curtains, as opposed to Vinyl,
as well as an 8 ply, water proof cover, black leatherette interior with the
original coco-mats and authentic, period correct, seat belts ordered from Stoddard Air Cooled
Porsche. It is very difficult to tell this car apart from the originals. I
have inadvertently fooled Porsche owners at shows.I have
priced this car to sell at $22700.00, well below similar vehicles with fewer
upgrades. The gear box works fantastically,
with no synchro problems or reverse "pop out." It drives smooth and
strong. It’s just a fantastic car to drive, and a magnet for attention. It is
not uncommon for people to stop and take photos of her. I cruise @ 70mph
without any problems. She can go faster, but it’s more fun to cruise. You don’t
have to get there first, but you will look better than everyone else upon your
arrival. Very fun to valet. This vehicle is represented as accurately as possible. Potential buyers, please feel free to ask any further questions or make photo requests not included in the ad. 2015 Porsche Macan Turbo
Mon, 06 Jan 2014The misinformation first started back in May of 2007 - more than six years ago - when word came that Porsche was developing a compact utility vehicle to fill out its product line. Rumors swirled that the German automaker's future "Roxster" would be based on the then-upcoming Audi Q5. By September of 2010, the name had changed to "Cajun," but the vehicle was still expected to be "based heavily on the Audi Q5," said reports in the months that followed. One year later, the first test mules were spotted, the mechanics hidden beneath barely disguised Audi sheetmetal, which did nothing to give the upcoming model its own identity. And even after Porsche announced "Macan" as the vehicle's production name in early 2012, articles stated that it would "arrive on the same chassis as the Audi Q5, though with suspension, brake and engine tweaks suitable to the Porsche range."
It's no wonder that most still consider the all-new Porsche Macan nothing more than a heavily massaged Q5.
To help lift some of the mystery surrounding its latest release, Porsche hosted us in Germany for an in-depth look at its new crossover (while Europeans call it a "sport utility," its car platform allows us to call it a proper CUV). The technology workshop offered us insight to the design and mechanical execution, and it concluded with a short test ride. The trip was both enlightening and educational - and it left us with a whole new perspective on the Macan.
Mercedes-AMG GT vs. Porsche 911 [w/poll]
Thu, 11 Sep 2014Mercedes-Benz designed the AMG GT to compete head-on with the Porsche 911. It's a clear, singular purpose, and Benz brings a lot of money, technology and race-bred expertise to the fight.
The AMG GT is Merc's followup to the awesome SLS AMG, the retro-modern, gullwing-doored coupe that took us by storm half a decade ago. But this new GT coupe is a more focused sports car than the SLS, rather than an all out supercar capable of extreme performance. It's got a brand-new V8 engine, and state-of-the-art technology that help it to not only be a proper Mercedes, but to be a serious performer.
Mercedes will sell its new baby in two models. The GT S arrives first, in spring 2015, followed by the standard GT in mid-2016. Of course, there's room to grow from there. And while Porsche may have already expanded its 911 range to include a vast variety of models, here's how Stuttgart's icon stacks up against Affalterbach's bad boy.
Amelia Island 2013: Porsche 911 swarms the field marking 50 years of rear-engine goodness
Wed, 13 Mar 2013Perhaps one of the most iconic sports cars in the world, it was no surprise that the Porsche 911 showed up in numbers to the 2013 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. Although the original 911 launched 50 years ago, the original and current models are instantly recognizable as 911s, and since the 911 has a storied racing background, there were probably just as many racing versions of the coupe as there were street-legal versions.
As the show's 2013 honoree, one of the prime racing examples was a 1970 Porsche 911 S raced by Sam Posey. There were so many cars in attendance, we didn't know where to look, but a 1985 911 Speedster concept and a Porsche-owned, rally-ready 911 Type 953 were definitely among the more impressive standouts. As an added bonus, Jacksonville-based Brumos Porsche had many of its classic racecars on display including a beautiful 959.
