This is an excellent example of the popular Porsche 356 replica.  It was built in California with a fibreglass body on a 1970's VW chassis.  It has a square tube steel frame under the VW pan and there is no sign of rust or corrosion in the original pan.

The car is a great driver - not perfect/flawless or a "trailer queen", but a car that you would not hesitate to drive anywhere (weather permitting of course!).  It is fun, carefree and exciting to drive and commands a lot of attention and thumbs-up from people seeing it.  My wife and I frequently take long road trips with it along Ocean Drive and A1A in Florida down to West Palm Beach etc.

The car starts and runs perfectly every time.  It fast idles for a few moments as it should and then kicks down to base idle flawlessly.  It has a throaty exhaust sound due to its aftermarket headers and sport exhaust - it sounds like a real Porsche.  It accelerates smoothly and its very quick.  The transmission shifts perfectly and it steers straight and true (although the steering is stiff by modern standards as its not power assisted).  The brakes work perfectly and stop the car quickly from any speed (although they are drum brakes and there is no power assist).

The engine has a recently new carb, new ignition components and new heat "boxes" at the engine.  It has no exhaust smoke on start up (or while driving); it has excellent power and compression and there is no oil consumption.  And its great on gas!

I recently (December) had a local garage (a VW/Porsche specialist) change the oil, replace the brakes, tie rod ends, front shocks and ball joints.  At the same time a new master cylinder was installed and a new steering box (the old one was sloppy).  The nice thing about this car is the security on knowing that all replacement parts are readily available over the counter anywhere!

The body is perfect with no dings or damages however there are a few minor scratches in the clear coat.  At three of the wheel openings is minor "crazing" typical of fibreglass bodies (i.e., Corvettes).  I have an estimate of $400 to correct this at a local body shop.  (Its only noticeable in very bright light so i haven't bothered yet).

All gauges work properly except the fuel gauge.  The wipers work fine (although slowly).  The hand brake works well.

We have really enjoyed this car but its time to move on.  Its not a show car but with minor enhancements it could be.  But it sounds great, handles like a dream (corners fast and flat), accelerates qickly and stops perfectly.

People are really drawn to this car and "car guys" spend a lot of time trying to figure out if its a real Porsche or not - its that authentic.

Buyer is responsible for shipping.  Trades (boat?) would be considered.

Singer Porsche, Koenigsegg, NSX: Leno's life doesn't suck

Tue, Oct 6 2015

Jay Leno had quite a productive trip this year during Monterey Car Week. Not only did he get to pal around with Ian Callum and check out the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, but the denim-clad comedian also headed to The Quail to talk to some prominent figures in the modern sports car scene. Capping off the fun, he got to take a drive in a Mercedes-AMG GT S, too Perhaps the highlight of this show is a nearly 10-minute interview with Christian von Koenigsegg. The founder of the Swedish hypercar company digs deep into the Agera One:1's engineering details, relating interesting facts about the aerodynamics and transmission. In addition, Leno chats with Rob Dickenson of Singer about its newly reimagined Porsche 911 Targa, and he gets the latest scoop on the Acura NSX's progress from newly promoted Acura Vice President and General Manager Jon Ikeda. If you like hearing about the nuts and bolts of sports car development, then this video can't be missed. Of course, we were there at Monterey, too, and we pointed our own cameras at some of the amazing machinery, both vintage and modern, at all the various car-focused events of the week. Take a look back at some of our own cool footage in the videos below. Related Video:

50th Anniversary Porsche 911 vs. Jaguar F-Type Coupe is a battle of beauty, brawn

Fri, 13 Jun 2014

There can't really be a loser between the Jaguar F-Type Coupe R and the Porsche 911 50th Anniversary Edition. One might be better than the other, but if you're behind the wheel of either of them, you can't complain. In a new video, Motor Trend takes on the difficult task of determining which one of these European powerhouses is the best, not just in terms of raw performance, but also how they actually feel to drive.
The Porsche 911 is one of the perennial favorites of the motoring world. It just doesn't go away and always seems capable of challenging the top vehicles in its class. In this video, Motor Trend takes a look at the 50th Anniversary Edition model that celebrates that heritage while boosting power somewhat over the standard version.
The F-Type Coupe is an incredibly masculine car, MT describing it as "a British Corvette." The coupe's exterior lines are tautly stretched over its athletic body, and it's supercharged 5.0-liter V8 sounds like a demon's growl. Jaguar seems to have things right with its latest sports car.

Porsche tuners 9ff, SpeedArt going bankrupt

Thu, 19 Sep 2013

Times are tough in Europe right now, and that unfortunately has reaped disastrous consequences for some of its smallest niche automakers. Gumpert, Wiesmann, Artega and Lola have all filed for bankruptcy this year, and it appears that tuners are not immune to the tough times, either.
Word coming in from across the pond suggests that 9ff and SpeedArt - two of the biggest names in Porsche tuning - have filed for bankruptcy as well. 9ff is best known for the GT9, a radical hypercar barely based on the 911, while SpeedArt was once of the foremost tuners of Porsches.
Fortunately there are still plenty of tuners ready to take a wrench to your Elfen, but the reported demise of these two makes the market a little bit smaller and - for Porsche enthusiasts - maybe the world a little bit lonelier, too.
