What we have here is an extremely RARE 1968 Pontiac Tempest Custom with a factory 350 HO Motor and manual trans. This is a good running and driving car. The drive train is complete #'s matching down to the partial VIN stamped in the block. I beleive the motor has never been out of this car. This is the 350 HO motor only made in 68 & 69. Its 320 HP @5100 @ 380 Torque @ 3200. It has the factory 4 barrel Quadrajet carb. The trans is the factory 3 speed floor shift Toploader. The rear is also original and is a 3.36 open. This car is RUST FREE! Its never had any rust. The car came with the following options:

350 HO engine
floor shift 3 speed HD
recessed wipers
viser vanity mirrors
drivers door outside remote mirror
custom seat belts with shoulder harnesses
deluxe wheel discs
deluxe steering wheel
power steering
power brakes
tinted windshield
custom pedal trim
8.25X14 WW tires

This is completely documented in the PHS paperwork and the original build sheet i have. I also have the New Vehicle Warranty Card and the original dealer check sheet which has the block code written on it. This was built in the Fremont, CA plant on 1-22-68. It was sold at Carleson Pontiac in Salt Lake City, Utah on 2-9-68. The numbers on this all match. They are as follows:
intake 9790140
cylinder heads # 18
block 9790079
block VIN 28Z117216
block code 376190 WR
trans C8AR 7006 tag: Rat E1 029987
radiator tag BE XJ The XJ is also cast in the tank
rear 9792977 date L217 This is an 8.5 rear with 3.36 gears
bellhousing 9785581
This car is road ready. Drive it home. It has been repainted. The paint looks good but is not perfect. It has some imperfections and chips here and there but overall looks good. I would rate in a 8.5 on a 1-10 scale. The weatherstrip and window fuzies are new. The rear bumper is new. The front bumper is slightly bent so it doesn't line up with the hood very good. The tires are NEW Coker Redlines with less than 50 miles on them. The 2 rear rocker moldings are missing but are available reproduction. One of the rear taillight lenses and the 2 front turn signal lenses are broken but still work. The motor runs strong. The trans shifts smoothly. The brakes work good. All the lights, turn signals, horn, wipers ect work. The body is very straight. All the glass is good. The steering is tight and the car drives nice. The interior is original and unrestored. It needs to be redone. It works but the seat covers, carpet and headliner need replaced. The door panels look very good. This is sold with no warranty expressed or implied. Buyer will be responsible for shipping. Delivery by me is an option. I have a clear Nevada title to this in my name. Payment must be made within 3 days of auction close or i will assume you were not a serious bidder and relist it. Please have the money before bidding! This is a very rare car and one of the few remaining originals. Its not perfect but looks good. I am uploading 24 pictures and a youtube video of the car. Please e-mail or call me with questions at 702-624-3266. My name is Mike. I am on Pacific time so please don't call in the middle of the night. Happy Bidding!!!

Junkyard Gem: 2007 Saturn Sky

Sat, Jun 26 2021

The Pontiac Division didn't have long to live when the Solstice first appeared in 2005 as a 2006 model, and Saturn's head was inching toward the chopping block at about the same rate. Still, optimism reigned — at least, it did until the global economy fell apart — and so Saturn Dealers got a rebadged version of the Solstice to sell: the Sky. Available for just the 2007 through 2010 model years, slightly more than 34,000 Skies rolled out of showrooms before the doors were nailed shut. Here's one of those rare cars, found in a Denver-area self-service yard a few weeks ago. I've found a handful of discarded Solstices in car graveyards during the past few years, mostly with crash damage. This Sky endured a medium-hard impact in the right front corner, which sent it to this place. The 177-horsepower, 2.4-liter Ecotec still resides under the battered hood. The Sky Redline version had a turbocharged engine rated at 260 horses; we can assume that such an engine would be yanked and purchased by the first junkyard shopper that realized what it was. The base transmission in the Sky was an Aisin five-speed manual, but this car has the optional five-speed automatic.  The Sky had its own nose and some different badging, but otherwise didn't differ much from the Solstice.  For the South Korean market, the Sky got Daewoo G2X badges and was advertised as the ideal vehicle for high-speed chases through Seoul traffic. The same car went to Europe as the Opel GT. Sadly, GM ran out of money to make right-hand-drive Skies, so we never got to witness Holden or Vauxhall versions. Here's Bob Lutz describing the new Sky. Lutz really hated car names molded into plastic bumper covers, so he takes great care here to describe the genuine glued-on emblems. Related Video:

GM recalling 778,000 Cobalts and G5s, six deaths reported

Thu, 13 Feb 2014

General Motors has announced that it will be recalling 778,562 compact cars after six people were killed in accidents, partially due to the airbags' failure to deploy. An issue with the ignition switch is causing the airbag issues, as well as causing the engine and other components to shut off without warning. The recall covers the 2005 to 2007 model year Chevrolet Cobalt and 2007 Pontiac G5. (Note that the Cobalt pictured above is a 2009 model.)
According to a report from Automotive News, a number of factors can cause the ignition to switch out of the run position, including weights on the key ring, rough or bumpy roads or other "jarring" events. Any of these situations could lead to some vehicle components not functioning properly.
There have been five fatal front-impact crashes that took the lives of six people, although as a GM spokesman noted, all five of the crashes happened off road and at high speed. In each of these cases, though, the lack of airbags wasn't the only lethal factor - alcohol and failure to wear a seat belt also played a role. Outside of the fatal accidents, there have been 17 other crashes where airbags didn't deploy. It's unclear if any of these crashes were caused by the engine shutting off.

Junkyard Gem: 2009 Pontiac G3

Sun, Mar 28 2021

Things weren't looking so rosy for Pontiac Division in late 2008, as The General had troubles of its own that culminated in Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June of 2009. Meanwhile, the Solstice and G8 had failed to revive Pontiac's youthful "excitement" image. Naturally, this seemed like the ideal time to put Pontiac badges and a new grille on the Chevrolet Aveo (itself a rebadged Daewoo Kalos) and call it the G3 (in the United States) or the G3 Wave (in Canada). Sales were not brisk, to put it mildly, and the 2009-only G3 has become one of the rarest modern Pontiacs in the junkyard world. The announcement of Pontiac's demise came in the spring of 2009, with the very last Pontiac-badged vehicle built being either a G3 or a Vibe (since those cars were really Daewoos and Toyotas, respectively, the true final Pontiac was the 2010 G6). The Aveo itself disappeared after the 2011 model year, replaced by an updated Kalos design known here as the Chevrolet Sonic. As a result of the GM bankruptcy, termination of the Pontiac brand, a nasty worldwide recession, and the preference of American vehicle shoppers for trucks or at least truck-shaped cars, few knew the G3 existed and fewer still thought to buy one. This is only the second G3 I've managed to find in a car graveyard, and I've been searching diligently.  So, it's a Junkyard Gem in the historical sense, not in the sense of being the kind of car you'd want to take to your 20th high school reunion. That said, it has power windows, air conditioning, and a CD player— pretty nice stuff for a dirt-cheap econobox from a decade back. And look! An AUX jack for your iPod or early-model smartphone. I drove dozens of cheap rental cars for my job with the 24 Hours of Lemons Traveling Circus during the late 2000s, and very few had this feature; until about 2013 or so, you had to travel with your own CDs or one of those horrible wireless FM modulators if you wanted to listen to anything other than the radio in a non-high-roller rental car. Under the hood, a 106-horse Daewoo Ecotec displacing 1.6 liters. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. If there were any television commercials for the G3, I guarantee that they weren't as fun as this one— set in the California high desert, of course— for the SKDM Kalos.
