This GTO "clone" Lemans is a great start on a restoration or use for the GTO parts for your car. It was stored for approx 20 years and has restoration started before that. The engine is a 350 pontiac that starts up and runs great with no noises or smoke. I fill the float bowl to start it. The trans is the stock trans and i dont know the condition. It did jerk the car when i first started it because it was in gear. As for the interior, it has its original bucket seats and rear seat. the buckets are tore a bit and the rears are very nice. rear side panels are good and the door panels are usable. Original center console missing glove box door. Original shifter with bad cable. NO carpet. The floors in this car are extremely solid with a couple small spots about the size of ur thumb. Headliner is tore. Dash has some cracks in the pad and someone installed a tach in the dash. Nice original steering wheel. Horn works. Glass is all there, windows go up and down, windshield is cracked. As for the body, i'll start in the back. I have a rear bumper that is straight but needs chrome, and one taillight. The decklid has rust and should be replaced. The drivers quarter has one patch behind the wheel and will need another in front of the wheel, the lower rear quarter is solid. rear tail pan has some rust behind the bumper. Passenger quarter has had a half quarter installed correctly and will need almost no attention to finish. Trunk floor will need replaced along with the gas tank mounts. The tank straps are there. I have the tank and it is usable, it was removed to repair the trunk. Drivers door is usable and will need minor repair. Passenger door has rusted inner, up to u if u can fix it or replace. The roof had some aggressive pitting due to the old vinyl top that someone started to repair and never finished. some rusting along the drivers front piller and under the windshield on the passenger side, solid under drivers side. The hood shows minor rust in the nose in the photo but i have plasma cut the rust out and welded new patches in the bad areas. It was done correctly. I also repaired the inner underside of the nose but it will need to be finished. Over all it made the hood a very usable hood. These hoods are not reproduced and extremely hard to find. The scoops are present and in good shape. The drivers fender is very solid with a minor dent around the front marker light. The vents are also in both fenders and they are original one year only "72" fenders. The passenger finder is solid with very small bubbles in the lower corner. The front enduro bumper is straight and in extremely good condition. Both headlight housings are in super shape with all hardware in them. I do not know the condition of the lights. The grills are very nice and complete with the GTO letters in the drivers grill. The front lower valance is there, not rusted, few dents. I have the front signals that go in it. The wheels are correct for the car but not original to it. Tire hold air and will work for moving the car around. The frame is straight and very solid also.I have not driven the car due to the gas tank being removed but the brakes are up on the car. I have described the car to the best of my ability and honestly. I will gladly answer any and all questions that u might have about the car. The front clip alone is almost worth what im asking for the entire car. I have put a low reserve and a low But it Now price. As an incentive i will give FREE with the car, a NEW trunk floor if the car is purchased using the Buy it Now option. The car is for sale locally and has a possibility of selling before the auction ends. I am including my personal cell number for serious people who may need further information about condition or shipping. You will need to pick it up or send a shipper who can haul a non drivable car. I want to thank u for taking the time to look at my car. 989-670-2700

Junkyard Gem: 1987 Pontiac Firebird

Sat, May 9 2020

From 1967 through 2002, the Pontiac Division offered the Firebird, close sibling to the Chevrolet Camaro. By the third generation, which debuted for the 1982 model year, it became more difficult to tell the two F-body cars apart at a glance and the Pontiac-exclusive engines of the earlier years disappeared, but the Firebird still retained its own personality and its own position in the GM marketing hierarchy. I still find the occasional 1982-1992 Camaro as I search car graveyards for interesting stuff, but the corresponding Firebirds have become scarce in recent years. Here's a base-engine-equipped '87, its Bright Red paint (yes, that was the official name for the color) faded by the Colorado sun as it awaits the crusher. Firebird shoppers had their choice of three engines in 1987: A 5.7-liter Chevy V8 (210 hp), a 5.0-liter Chevy V8 (205 hp) and the same 2.8-liter 60° V6 that went into the Fiero and countless front-drive GM sedans (135 hp). This car has the base engine. The third-gen F-body didn't weigh much (3,105 pounds for the '87 with six-banger, about what a 2020 Corolla weighs), so 135 horses was tolerable. Plenty of these cars got T-5 5-speed manual transmissions, but this one got the two-pedal setup. Camaro wheels, of course. Our Friend the Carburetor didn't disappear from new cars until the early 1990s in the United States, though electronic fuel injection had become very commonplace by 1987. Still, GM considered this car's EFI worth a door-handle brag. It's not worth fixing up a mashed six-cylinder third-gen Firebird, so we can see the route this car took to its final parking space. Junkyard Gem: 1964 Pontiac Catalina Custom Ventura

Mon, May 22 2023

Like Impala, Skylark, Malibu and Silverado (among many others), the Ventura name began its career as the designation for a trim level or option package used on another GM model, then became a model name in its own right. Initially a designation for a snazzed-up Pontiac Catalina two- or four-door hardtop, the Ventura name moved over to a Pontiac-ized version of the Chevy Nova for 1971. Today's Junkyard Gem, found in a Northern California car graveyard, proudly bears both CatalinaĀ and Ventura badging. Actually, the Catalina name itself started out as a trim level for the Chieftain and Star Chief models of the 1950s, just to confuse everybody. By the time this car was built, the Catalina was the cheapest of four Pontiac models built on the same full-size B-Body platform as the big Chevrolets and Olds 88s of the time (the Star Chief, Bonneville and Grand Prix ranked above it on the 1964 Pontiac Prestige-O-Meter). The 1964 Catalina four-door hardtop with the Custom Ventura package offered a lot of swank per dollar, with a price starting at $3,063. That's about $29,821 when converted to inflated 2023 dollars. The main benefit of the Custom Ventura package was an interior done up entirely in Morrokide upholstery. Morrokide was the name GM applied to Naugahyde fake leather when used in Pontiac vehicles; when used in Buicks, it was known as Cordaveen, while Oldsmobile Naugahyde was called Morocceen. Naugahyde took its name from the town of Naugatuck, Connecticut, where it was invented. This car's Morrokide is in rough shape. In fact, everything about this car is decayed and probably infectious. You know to be careful when a junkyard car has warnings about rat feces inked on the glass. That said, I couldn't resist examining the 8-track tapes that littered the interior. Here'sĀ Hotel California, the 1976 hit album by the Eagles. Supertramp'sĀ Paris, a live album recorded from the 1979 Breakfast in America tour, is here as well. Here'sĀ The Best of Carly Simon, from 1975. The tapes were played on this Sparkomatic player, which probably lived in the glovebox or under the seat. The factory radio was AM-only, and includes the frequency markings for the atomic-attack CONELRAD emergency frequencies. 1964 was the last year for mandatory CONELRAD radios in the United States.

Pontiac could be a phoenix rising from the ashes

Tue, Apr 18 2017

Of the deceased American car companies from the past 50 years such as Hummer, Mercury, Oldsmobile, Plymouth and Saturn, I believe the most worthy resurrection would be Pontiac. After all, it's no longer politically correct to drive an ex-military vehicle with single-digit gas mileage, nor do Millennials and Gen-Xers desire AARP-associated nameplates such as Mercury or Oldsmobile. Pontiac was originally founded in 1893 by Albert G. North and Harry G. Hamilton as the Pontiac Buggy Company, due to their location in Pontiac, Michigan. But as the early 1900s automotive revolution took off, they shifted their focus from horse-drawn carriages to motorized transportation. Taking a cue from Oakland County where they were based, they rebranded their organization as the Oakland Motor Company. Within a couple years, sales of Oakland cars were so good that it caught the attention of General Motors and they bought the company. In 1926, GM premiered the first Pontiac and its name drew inspiration from the legendary Native American War Chief, who was famous for the Battle of Bloody Run and opposition of British forces. His likeness was used in early promotional materials as well as the vehicle's emblem which was referred to simply as the "Indian Head". In 1956, the outdated emblem was replaced with a new, sleeker logo that resembled a red arrow head. It was known as "The Dart" and featured a singular star in the center which may have been a nod to Pontiac's successful Star Chief model. The 1960s saw the introduction of several popular models such as the GTO and the Firebird. The GTO was initially offered as an option package on the 1964 Tempest, and the name was the brainchild of John Delorean, who would later go on to form his own eponymous automobile company. The Firebird debuted in 1967 as a pony-car foil to Ford's award-winning Mustang. Although mechanically similar to Chevrolet's Camaro, the Firebird boasted a distinct sheetmetal nose and tail to help visually distinguish it. The 1980s were another adventurous time for Pontiac, and GM took advantage of the sales momentum by running a successful ad campaign. It proclaimed "We Build Excitement" and highlighted an arrangement with musicians Daryl Hall and John Oats. The fiery Fiero was a home-run for Pontiac and it was introduced in 1983 as an '84 model. Not only was it the first U.S. produced mid-engine sports coupe, but it also utilized lightweight, dent-resistant body panels.
