Triple black: It's the color combination for a muscle car. Exotic colors are nice, but ask a car guy what turns him on and that's his reply, every time. Formal, cool and mean all the same time black/black/black cars are a breed of their own. Add in the very rare 455 cubic inch engine and ALL of the right visual options and you've got one of the best GTO's of all time.

Here’s how the PHS-sourced window sticker lays out the car:

24267 Pontiac GTO convertible
344 455 4bbl HO engine
351 Turbo Hydra-matic (TH400) automatic transmission
361 Safe-T-Track rear differential
402 AM/FM radio
422 Vinyl side stripes
464 Formula steering wheel
474 Rally II wheels
501 Power steering
502 power brakes
504 Tilt steering wheel
561 Power seat, full bench
582 Air conditioning
621 Ride and handling package
A2 Starlight Black paint w/black convertible top
62 Black bench seat interior

Look over the deep black exterior. The body is in excellent shape, free of dings, dents or ripples. The paint is smooth and flat. Rally II wheels with correct Firestone Wide Ovals are at each corner. The Endura front bumper, so frequently cracked and warped, is nearly perfect here. Stainless trim pieces are in great shape. The black convertible top is brand new and operates exactly as it should. The grilles are close to perfect and chrome parts from the door handles to the rear bumper sparkle.

Pop the hood and take in the sights. Front and center is a warranty replacement, properly dated and coded YA 455 engine, resplendently detailed from top to bottom. Only 241 455/auto GTO convertibles were built in '70 out of nearly 3,800 total...do the math! The block is the proper 9799140 piece, with #64 heads and a date coded manifold and carb. You can tell the car's only gone a couple miles since new by the lack of discoloration on the cylinder heads by the exhaust risers: I drove it far enough to sort it out and no more. The inner fenderwells, core support, firewall and other satin black parts are perfect. The A/C system is new or remanufactured throughout, including all new hoses, a new accumulator, the compressor, all seals and more. I charged it up with R134a and it blows cold. A new power brake booster and master cylinder stop the car as new. There’s a new wiring harness in place, a reproduction cap on the new radiator and new hoses with tower hose clamps. New belts, date coded wires, fresh plugs, new filters and more mean the maintenance items have been replaced, and replaced properly.

There are rebuilt seats with new covers, new carpeting, a new dash pad, a clean center console and mint door panels. The one change, from a power bench seat to buckets with a power driver's side, should offend no one but the top 1% of purists. They look better, are sportier and allow for more interior adjustment. The dash panels, both chrome and woodgrain, are brand new. All of the interior chrome is new. Clean gauges work as they should. Again, everything is fresh and everything works as it should.
Underneath the key word is “spotless.” From the floorpans to the exhaust to the steering and suspension this chassis is well sorted, tidy and new. Steering and brake components are new and adjusted precisely. The automatic transmission is in excellent shape after its fresh rebuild, as is the 3.55-geared rear with new axles, bearings, seals and a brand new Eaton Posi. In keeping with its cruiser attitude the exhaust rumbles as new with its reproduction mufflers. The trunk is in the same condition: A new trunk mat, spare cover, the correct jack and spare make their homes inside while leaving plenty of room for car show supplies!

Please send any questions you have before you hit the buy it now and I'll try to get back with you quickly. I don't want to hear any excuses after (I leave negative on you if so). If you hit buy it now I'll be out of town till the July 26th so if you buy it before you will have to wait till Aug 5th to pick it up.

GM isn't liable for punitive damages in ignition switch cases

Wed, Nov 20 2019

NEW YORK — A federal appeals court said General Motors is not liable for punitive damages over accidents that occurred after its 2009 bankruptcy and involved vehicles it produced earlier, including vehicles with faulty ignition switches. The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan said on Tuesday that the automaker did not agree to contractually assume liability for punitive damages as part of its federally-backed Chapter 11 reorganization. GM filed for bankruptcy in June 2009, and its best assets were transferred to a new Detroit-based company with the same name. The other assets and many liabilities stayed with "Old GM," which is also known as Motors Liquidation Co. Tuesday's 3-0 decision may help GM reduce its ultimate exposure in nationwide litigation over defective ignition switches in several Chevrolet, Pontiac and Saturn models. It is also a defeat for drivers involved in post-bankruptcy accidents, including those who collided with older GM vehicles driven by others, as well as their law firms. The ignition switch defect could cause engine stalls and keep airbags from deploying, and has been linked to 124 deaths. A lawyer for the drivers and their law firms did not immediately respond to requests for comment. GM had no comment. Circuit Judge Dennis Jacobs said GM's agreement to acquire assets "free and clear" of most liabilities excused it from punitive damages claims for Old GM's conduct. He also noted that the judge who oversaw the bankruptcy concluded that the new company could not be liable for claims that the "deeply insolvent" Old GM would never have paid. The decision upheld a May 2018 ruling by U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman in Manhattan, who oversees the ignition switch litigation. Drivers have sought a variety of damages in that litigation, including for declining resale values. GM has recalled more than 2.6 million vehicles since 2014 over ignition switch problems. It has also paid more than $2.6 billion in related penalties and settlements, including $900 million to settle a U.S. Department of Justice criminal case. The case is In re: Motors Liquidation Co, 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, No. 18-1940. Government/Legal Chevrolet Pontiac Saturn Safety gm ignition switch

700 horsepower Porsche GT2 RS is the wildest 911 ever

Fri, Jun 30 2017

The Porsche 911 comes in a variety of flavors, each filling a certain taste for a certain customer. Sitting atop the range is the new 911 GT2 RS. In previous generations, the GT2 had a bit of a reputation as a widowmaker, a 911 with massive power that could snap and bite with the slightest agitation. Porsche says the new model has been civilized, but with 700 horsepower going to the rear wheels, we're sure it's going to be as mad as ever. Power comes from a highly massaged version of the 3.8-liter flat-six from the 911 Turbo S. The rear-mounted engine makes an outrageous 700 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. Like we previously reported, the new car will use water injection to help keep things cool. The only transmission is Porsche's PDK. While enthusiasts may lament the loss of the manual, the RS models have always been about performance above all else. Simply put, the PDK is the better performance option. All that power translates to a 0-60 mph time of 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 211 mph. The engine makes 80 more horsepower than the previous model. That makes it the most powerful road-going 911 ever built. In fact, the 887 horsepower 918 Spyder is the only road-going Porsche that makes more power. The fact that Porsche trusts all of that power to go to the rear is both thrilling and terrifying at the same time. In order to manage traction, the GT2 RS gets a number of upgrades. Rear-wheel steering has become commonplace in the 911 lineup, so it's no surprise to see it here. Sticky tires with 265/35 ZR 20 section rubber at the front and 325/30 ZR 21 section rubber at the rear keep things planted. That comically large rear wing adds downforce, adding to stability. The car gets standard carbon ceramic brakes. While some people prefer traditional rotors for the street, like the PDK, this is all about performance. A number of intakes and outlets complement the rear wing and maximize aerodynamic efficiency. It's a bit of a surprise that with all the focus on downforce, the GT2 RS still manages to top out at 211 mph. The hood, front wings, wheel housing vents, door mirrors, side air intakes, parts of the rear end, and a number of interior components are all made from carbon fiber. The roof has been made of magnesium. If you want to drop any pretense of civility and comfort in the pursuit of speed, Porsche is offering a Weissach package that shaves off another 40 pounds from the already impressive wet weight of 3,241.

What's driving the spike in air-cooled Porsche 911 prices

Thu, Mar 26 2015

Classic car prices have been racing skyward in general, but prices for air-cooled (pre-1999) Porsche 911s are ascending like they're strapped to rocket boosters. It's been going on for years, and every year people are surprised by how outrageous it's getting: Classic Driver covered it this month, as did The Truth About Cars who included this example of a "scruffy" 1993 RS America with 215,000 miles asking $80K; Mike Spinelli at Drive riffed on it at length last year along with a host of classic-car-market observers; Porsche forums were at it two years ago; and let's not even get into the 993 Turbo, going for prices so high you have to lie down to look at them. Speed Academy has run a piece looking at why it's happening, one theory being that regular-guy owners are hopping on the runaway-price wagon without any good reason. As in the example of that high-mileage, scruffy 911 RS America at Bring a Trailer, the owner sees pristine examples valued by Hagerty at $170,000, and even though the average value is $93,238 he thinks something like, "Mine's got to be worth half of top dollar ..." The tide - even one rising on air - makes it hard to find decent prices. Then there is the flood of money into the market. In spite of articles that try to temper investors' outlooks on collectible cars, other articles in places like the Financial Times and the Guardian promote vintage metal as a safe place to put money and reap astonishing returns. Speed Academy thinks one side effect of high 911 prices is that responsible enthusiasts are turning their attention to cars like the BMW 2002, E30 M3, and E9 3.0CS, saying their prices are "sharply on the rise." The entire article is worth a read since it goes into markets far afield from pricey German steel, but incredibly, the entire piece was actually inspired by a 1997 Acura Integra R that sold for $43,000 on eBay. So while this could be the best time to get into the classic car market if you know what you're doing, it is certainly the best time to do your homework. Related Video:
