Brief history, I got the car at age 15. It was running and driving and mostly complete. Over my high school years it was disassembled for restoration. Instead of restoring it, I got married and started life. Now, after 22 years, a wife, 4 kids & a mortgage later, the car is still un-restored. Maybe it's time to let it go. Here's what it is: PHS documented, Verdero green on green on green, YS code 400, auto, disc brakes, hideaways, A/C, tilt wheel, remote mirror & power windows. When I got it it had a running 400 from a '71. That engine is gone and I have a correct '69 YS code block, but is not #'s matching. The #'s off the front of the engine are 29Z117307 & 0500425 over YS, and at the back of the engine a date code of B 049 & 9790071. The heads are 62 with date codes of K 048 & K 128. I have all the major engine pieces, but it is disassembled and needs to be re-built. I've had the block checked & it's good. The tranny has been re-built & in dry storage for 20 years. The car needs everything, but is not rusty. It has seen some accidents, but doesn't need major rust repair. It's been skinned on the right side and has lots of bondo on both sides. It's been re-painted numerous times. Most major components are present, but it's missing some of the hideaway set up for sure, and who knows how many other little things. I've hung the front clip on it mostly for looks and for ease of transport. The front bumper and lower valance are real nice, not bent up. The hood is great. The front fenders are pretty rough. Good enough to fix if you really wanted original, but they have rust and dents. The dash is pretty bad, but I have another one with just a minor crack on top. The seats need upholstery, but the frames & springs seem fine. The windshield is not cracked, but has some delimitation and sand pitting. I have a youtube video of the car before the front clip was on. Sorry about the poor quality I was pretty sick when I shot it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZWnxwX6tdw Also noticed that the video/sound are not in sync, oh well. Please email or call 541-531-9995 with any questions. The car can sit in the shop for a month or so if arrangements are made before the sale. $500 through paypal within 72 hrs & the balance via money order or whatever in 2 weeks or so, depending on arrangements. I'd encourage a physical inspection, if possible. Again, the car needs everything, but it has great options and isn't rusty. Also, sorry about the sideways pictures. I'm not computer smart enough to figure out how to rotate them.  I'd consider trading the GTO for the right late 1990's or early 2000's standard length 12 passenger (not a 15 passenger) diesel van.

There's a 'Knight Rider' movie in development

Mon, Aug 17 2020

James Wan, who has directed films from the first "Saw" to "Aquaman," with "Furious 7" in between, and produced even more projects, is producing a new Knight Rider movie according to a report in Deadline. Just in case there's a reader who doesn't know, Knight Rider was one of the seminal trio of iconic-car shows from the 1980s, along with "The Dukes of Hazzard" and "Miami Vice." The series lasted 90 episodes that ran from 1982 to 1986, following the crime-fighting exploits of Michael Knight, a man who crusaded for justice after being shot in the face. Billionaire Walton Knight hired Michael to work with the Knight Foundation, where Michael helps develop the Knight Industries Two Thousand, a Pontiac Trans-Am with AI that can talk, drive more than 200 miles per hour, and could teach MI6's Q Branch about gadgetry. Collider described David Hasselhof's Michael Knight as "crimefighter by trade and wearing-a-leather-jacket-with-no-shirt-underneath innovator by hobby." The show made such an impression that there was a series spinoff called "Code of Justice," two TV movies in 1991 and 1994, a convention called KnightCon, and a series reboot on NBC that lasted for one season from 2008 to 2009, as well as stores full of action figures and models and literature, YouTube fan-made trailers and movies, and this wacky German-dubbed short "Knight Rider" film starring Hasselhoff. We don't know anything about the new movie's plot yet, other than that it's set in the present. T.J. Fixman, better known for now as a video game writer who worked on franchises like "Ratchet and Clank" and "Resistance: Fall of Man," has been attached to write, with a mandate to keep "the anti-establishment tone of the original." With matters still early in development there's no telling when the movie will hit theaters, and Wan's probably got his hands busy with the new MacGuyver reboot for CBS, anyway. Now that there's already been a Knight Industries 2000 and 3000, that gives us plenty of time to imagine — in a world where 200-mph hypercars powered by everything sprout like weeds and even Cannonballers are using military-like equipment — what would a Knight Industries Four Thousand possess? And would it be called KIFT? Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.

Junkyard Gem: 1989 Pontiac 6000 STE AWD

Sun, Aug 1 2021

During the middle to late 1980s, General Motors made a big push to grab back some of the sales swiped by makers of European luxury machinery during the previous decade. Around the top of the prestige pyramid, there was the Turin/Hamtramck-built Cadillac Allante taking aim at the Mercedes-Benz 560SEC and the super high-tech Buick Reatta trying to seduce away BMW and Jaguar shoppers; even the Riviera offered a futuristic touchscreen computer sorely lacking in anything out of Stuttgart or Bavaria. The General had a plan to take on the smaller German sporty sedans, too, and Pontiac of the "We Build Excitement" era offered a midsize sedan packed with modern hardware at a great price: the 6000 STE. Here's one of the rarest 6000 STEs of them all, an all-wheel-drive-equipped '89 found in a Denver-area yard last week. Any 6000 STE is extremely hard to find today; when I wrote about a front-wheel-drive 1987 6000 STE back in 2018, desperate owners of these cars filled my inbox with requests — sometimes demands —  for parts that continue to this day. Many of them pleaded with me to help them find an all-wheel-drive version, and now I have managed to find one at Colorado Auto & Parts in Englewood, just south of Denver (in fact, the same yard at which I shot the '87). You may recall CAP as the old-school yard whose owners built the amazing airplane-engined 1939 Plymouth pickup a few years back.  The all-wheel-drive system on the 6000 STE was introduced for the 1988 model year, and it became standard equipment on the 1989 STE. At this time, the automotive industry had taken note of the success of the idiot-proof all-wheel-drive systems offered by AMC and Audi/Volkswagen; Toyota began selling Americans all-wheel-drive Camrys, Celicas, and Corollas, while Ford offered the Tempo and Topaz with optional AWD and Subaru was just beginning to make the switch from manually-selected four-wheel-drive to genuine all-wheel-drive around that time (it took a few more years for everyone to standardize on the 4WD/AWD terminology we use today, though). The 6000 STE AWD was intended to compete with such all-wheel-drive-equipped sedans as the Audi 80 ($23,610), Audi 90 ($28,840), and BMW 325iX ($30,750); its $22,599 price tag (about $50,700 in 2021 dollars) certainly made it seem like a bargain compared to those cars. In addition to the all-wheel-drive system, 1989 6000 STE owners got a digital instrument panel and more switches and buttons than the Space Shuttle.

NHTSA could add 1M cars to GM recall

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration may expand a recall campaign for faulty brake lamps. The agency is currently looking into complaints that certain 2004-2011 Chevrolet Malibu models as well as some 2007-2009 Saturn Aura sedans may have brake lights that do not illuminate when the driver presses the pedal. Alternatively, the lamps may also illuminate without input from the driver. General Motors recalled 8,000 Pontiac G6 models from the 2005 model year for the same problem, and NHTSA is currently investigating whether to add 550,000 more G6 models built between 2005 and 2009 to the list for the same issue.
In addition, investigators are currently examining 97 complaints from Malibu and Aura owners with the same trouble. If NHTSA adds those models to the recall campaign, more than one million units could be covered. GM, meanwhile, says there have been no accidents or injuries as a result of the problem.
