This is a real GTO Convertible.  It needs a total restoration.  As near as I can tell , it was last licensed in 1980.  It looks like it has never been wrecked.  Doors and trunk open and close as they should, with good gaps.  There is some rust in the lower front fenders and in the cowl at the edge of the dash.  The cowl rust  does not show with the lower windshield  molding on, but should be repaired.  The rest of the car is rust free.  The trunk, floors, frame, rockers, and floor braces are excellent.  No body sag in the cowl.  Everything solid as it can be.  The quarter panels were radiused for clearance for big tires.  Left front fender and doors need body work.  They do not need replaced.  Right front fender is junk, but an original replacement is included.  It needs some body work , but is a good , useable original fender.  The urethane bumper is straight, but the urethane is deteriorated.  A better bumper is included as pictured.  Hood has a little damage on the right front corner, and I believe the hole in the hood is factory for a tach.  The hood has not been folded and is not rusty.  The hood is not original to the car.  Quarters can be repaired or replaced,  New quarter skins are included.  Has original 3.55  open rear.  I don't know if it is the original transmission or not, but I have no reason to believe that it isn't.  Does not have its original motor.  The motor in it is a 69  400 with the right casting number, block, heads, intake, and carburetor.  All parts are date matched and correctly dated for this car.  Fan shroud is NOS.  Convertible top bows are in excellent condition,  not seized up.  Convertible top motor has been tested good.  All convertible trim, windshield, and top well trim  has been professionally restored.  These parts are still wrapped, although not pictured , they are included.  A set of 5 BFG radial T/A  tires 245 60  14 Mounted on 5 restored 14 by 7 rally ll  wheels with 4 new center caps are included with car, but not pictured.  There are no trim rings or lug nuts.    I have no rear bumper,  I do have all the brackets and hardware.  They are all excellent.  I have no radiator or exhaust manifolds.  Original color is midnight green, White top, and black interior.  Options are:  automatic transmission, radio, retractable headlamps, console, and power steering.  The headlamp system is complete and moves freely by hand.  I have not had vacuum to it.  If you are looking for  GTO project,  keep in mind that this car is structurally sound, it costs so much more to restore one that isn't structurally sound and they are never quite right when they are done.  I f you have any other questions,  I would prefer a phone call over an email.  My name is Cal and my phone Number is  509-226-1356.

How to turn a Pontiac Fiero into a trackday car

Fri, 17 Oct 2014

Imagine hitting the track in a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive sports coupe that's affordable and has pretty good parts availability. It might sound like a pipe dream, but it's actually quite possible, if you're willing to think a little outside the box. The Pontiac Fiero is out there just waiting for a little work to turn it into a competent racing machine.
Think about it for a second. Of course, we would all like to be snaking through the curves in something exotic, but what happens when you crash or something breaks? The bills are going to mount up quickly. However, if you ball up a Fiero at the track, as long as you're not hurt, then it's not a huge tragedy.
That's basically the story of Steven Snyder in a new video from Drive starring Matt Farah. Snyder wanted to go to the track cheaply and ended up with an awesome little Fiero with a huge wing and a claimed 220 horsepower at the wheels thanks to a V6 from a Chevrolet Lumina. Check out the video to see how this pint-size Pontiac performs.

GM reintroduces Tripower name in the worst way possible

Wed, Aug 1 2018

The story of General Motors' use of the Tripower moniker begins way back in 1957, when Semon E. "Bunkie" Knudsen, then General Manager of GM's Pontiac division, directed his engineers to inject more performance into his brand's line of V8-powered automobiles. Fuel injection was an option, but hot rodders flocked instead to Tri-Power (marketed way back when with a hyphen), which grafted a trio of two-barrel Rochester carburetors onto a single intake manifold. A legend was born. And that legend was born of performance. At idle and when full power wasn't required, Pontiac's Tri-Power system used just the middle carburetor, which helped make the setup easier to tune. Depending on the year and model, either a vacuum system or a mechanical linkage opened up the two outer carbs, thereby switching from two barrels to six, and allowing the engine to take in more fuel and air. And it was an easy marketing win – six barrels is better than four barrels, right? Because performance! So, when news filtered in that GM has resurrected the Tripower name, those of us who grew up attending classic car shows and wrenching on old Pontiacs did a double-take. And then we all collectively sighed. Turns out that today's Tripower refers to a trio of fuel-saving measures that include cylinder deactivation, active thermal management, and intake valve lift control, according to Automotive News. And, at least for now, it applies to GM's line of fullsize trucks powered by a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. We're all for saving fuel whenever possible. And we have zero say in how any automaker chooses to market its products and technologies. But, we'll offer our two cents anyway: Relaunching a storied name from the past is fine. Relaunching a storied name from the past while completely overlooking the reasons the name got famous in the first place is only going to irritate the people who remember the name in the first place. Couldn't they just call this new technology package something else? GM Recalling Another 2.7 Million Vehicles In Five Separate Campaigns

Thu, May 15 2014

The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles. The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles – some of them the same models – but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago. The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents. A further 112k Corvette models from the 2005-2007 model years are being called in for problems with their low-beam headlamps resulting from a flexing relay control circuit wire that's not meant to bend. GM says it is "aware of several hundred complaints" about this issue, but notes that there have been no reports of related accidents. In addition, over 19k examples of Cadillac CTS from the 2013 and 2014 model years are being recalled over windshield wipers that might not work after a jump start. Finally, GM is also bringing in 477 examples of its 2014 Chevy Silverado, Tahoe and GMC Sierra (though not the Yukon) to fix a problem with a tie rod in its steering rack. As ever, all recall repairs will be performed free of charge, and GM is now estimating that recall-related actions this quarter will result in an estimated $200-million charge against its second-quarter earnings. Read the full announcement from GM below for further details.
