BMX rider flips for wrecked Detroit football stadium

Fri, Jun 12 2015

Detroit is littered with derelict ruins. Abandoned automotive assembly plants, sure – but also former sports venues, like Tiger Stadium in Corktown, Roesink Stadium in Hamtramck, and the Silverdome in Pontiac. BMX rider Tyler Fernengel remembers going to see the Lions and Pistons play at the Silverdome in his youth, and competed there in Supercross as a boy. The stadium hasn't been used in years, but now, with his career just picking up, Tyler has returned to film this video – riding through its halls, jumping its stairwells and flipping over its grandstands and field. It's a fitting tribute to a once-great venue of suburban Michigan. Check out the footage in this latest clip from Red Bull. Pontiac Firebird in latest Generation Gap scrap

Tue, 30 Sep 2014

Generation Gap is mining the Lingenfelter collection again this week to compare two very different interpretations of the Pontiac Firebird. An original 1968 example goes toe-to-toe with a 2010 Lingenfelter Trans Am to see whether the old man or the modern re-imagining takes the crown.
Being from the Lingenfelter collection, both cars are absolutely immaculate. The '68 packs a Pontiac 350-cubic-inch (5.7-liter) V8 with a claimed 320 horsepower and some classic, muscular style with a hood-mounted tach. Plus, it's painted in an understated shade of green that you don't usually see.
In the other corner is Lingenfelter's pumped-up take on the classic shape based on the modern Camaro, and this is just one of six concept versions ever made. It wears an eye-catching, vintage-inspired livery of blue with a white stripe package. Under its shaker hood is a 455-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) V8 with a reported 655 hp and 610 pound-feet of torque.

Burt Reynolds' old Pontiac Trans Am replica sold for $317,500

Thu, Jun 20 2019

Following Burt Reynolds' passing last September, Julien's Auctions held an estate sale of the late actor's property on June 15-16 in Beverly Hills, Calif. Hundreds of items were included in the auction, but none more valuable than the Pontiac Trans Am Bandit replica previously owned by Reynolds. It easily surpassed expectations when it sold for $317,500. Julien's, the self-proclaimed experts in contemporary and pop culture, listed 876 pieces in the sale, from cowboy boots to a driver's license to scripts. The online preview said it estimated a range of prices from $25 to $200,000. They were way off. Item No. 716 was a replica of a Pontiac Trans Am Bandit that was seen in the original "Smokey and the Bandit." Not the real car, just a re-creation. But its value comes more from who owned the ride rather than what the car was. The replica was owned by Reynolds for some years, and now that he's passed, it's coveted even more. It's not the only Trans Am item that sold at auction. Three Reynolds Trans Am model cars sold for $640, $576 and $512. A Reynolds-signed "Bandit" poster sold for $3,200. A Reynolds-signed poster from the Trans Am plant sold for $1,562.50, a Reynolds custom-built Trans Am office desk sold for $4,375, and a "Smokey and the Bandit" decorative etched glass panel sold for $896. This isn't the first time a Bandit replica has sold for big money. In 2016, a promotional Trans Am sold at a Barrett-Jackson auction for $550,000. We also believe the exact car sold in this Julien's auction was previously bought at a Barrett-Jackson auction in 2018 for $192,500. If that's the case, somebody just made an extremely easy profit.

DESCRIPTION
Launching out of the gate in 1968 was an entirely new body design by Pontiac for the ever-popular GTO! With more curves, the shorter fastback-style bodies had simulated hood scoops, hidden windshield wipers, and the new, heavily-promoted Endura front bumper!

This gorgeous 1968 Pontiac GTO H.O. Hardtop Sport Coupe comes finished in Starlight Black (originally Q Verdoro Green) over Black vinyl interior (originally 221 Gold) upholstery with factory correct Black Cordova roof (2). Options on this start with a numbers matching 400ci/360hp V8 with factory 4-speed close-ratio manual transmission & Hurst shifter, 3.55 conventional rear end, power disc brakes, power steering, bucket seats with center console, factory-optioned hood mounted tachometer, push-button AM radio with Stereo 8-track player, 15”x7” Rally II wheels with white letter tires (original 14” Rally II wheels included), passenger visor vanity mirror, rare deluxe wood shift knob, carpeted floor mats, and interior courtesy lights!

It maintains it’s original, numbers matching & VIN stamped YS-code engine block (9790071), date-coded Rochester Quadrajet carburetor (7028267), and original date-coded intake; exhaust manifolds, heads, & other factory components. The transmission is also numbers matching with factory correct date stamp designation as well as the factory original 10-bolt rear end with visible WH stamp. The engine was fully disassembled to check for wear, and found to be in splendid condition internally! The cylinder walls were only ball-honed to better seat the new rings, the original crank was polished, all new cam & bearing, main & rod bearings installed, all fresh gaskets, rebuilt heads with fresh valve job, new springs, rebuilt carburetor, and all new hoses, clamps, belts, and fluids! The transmission was fully serviced, resealed, and received a brand new clutch assembly. The rear axle got new seals & bearings along with fresh fluid. It remains totally stock with a factory odometer reading of only 86,231original miles to date!

This superb 3-owner GTO was purchased new from Finch Pontiac Sales located in Salem, MO in the Spring of 1968. The second owner took possession in September of 1970 and enjoyed for next nearly 11 years. He finally sold it in Feb 1981 to the third owner from Lindsay, Oklahoma who decided to strip the car for a complete nut-and-bolt restoration started in approximately 2005. As the process begun, time and resources fell short, and the entire project was picked up & completed by C&J Classic & Muscle Cars based in Lebanon, MO. Their brilliant experience in classic Pontiac restorations shows impeccably throughout, with attention to even the smallest of details! The body possesses original sheet metal that received only minor rust repair. The highly detailed, rust free chassis received all new suspension components, all new brakes, all new dual exhaust, new wheels & tires, fuel lines, e-brake cable, etc. Inside, everything from the carpet to the headliner is completely new. Only the date-coded seatbelts remain. This is a terrific car and will absolutely make for a superb future investment! It will come with all PHS documentation, original owner’s manual, and photographs to support number’s matching claims & ownership history. With approximately 100 miles on this completed showpiece today, we couldn’t be more excited to deliver it to a proud new owner! Please feel welcome to call with any additional questions.
