I BOUGHT THIS BEAUTIFUL GTO ONE YEAR AGO.  I AM THE THIRD PROUD OWNER.  I PUT LESS THAN 1000 MILES ON IT.  I HAD IT JUST LONG ENOUGH TO BRING IT UP TO THE BEAUTIFUL LOOKING AND RUNNING CONDITION IT'S IN TODAY. AND JUST LONG ENOUGH TO LOSE MY JOB.  MY PAIN WILL BE YOUR GAIN.  I INSTALLED  NEW A/C ($2400), TOTALLY REPAINTED IT ORIGINAL MONTERO RED ($5000).  UPDATED THE RADIO ($500).  NEW RADIATOR, ALTERNATOR, BATTERY, POWER STEERING PUMP ($875).  ALL THREE TRI-POWER CARBS REBUILT ($850).  BRAND NEW OEM FRONT BUMPER AND NEW OLD STOCK OEM HEADLIGHT BUCKETS ($1500) AND NEW GRILLES REALLY MAKE THE FRONT POP.  THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD THIS WONDERFUL GTO FOR 17 YEARS GARAGED IN FLORIDA.  SHE SPENT THE FIRST 28 YEARS IN A VIRGINIA GARAGE WITH THE ORIGINAL OWNER.

SELDOM DO WE FIND A MID-60’S MUSCLE CAR WITH THIS MUCH CURB APPEAL.

THE BODY OF THIS GTO CONVERTIBLE IS EXTREMELY STRAIGHT WITH NO SIGNS OF REPAIR OR BONDO, THE BODY PANELS ARE ORIGINAL TO THE CAR, THE LINES ARE GREAT. ALL THE CHROME MOLDINGS ARE ORIGINAL AND IN EXCELLENT SHAPE.  THE VENT WINDOW CHROME IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.   THE WHITE CONVERTIBLE TOP IS NEW.  THE PREVIOUS OWNER JUST HAD THE TOP FRAME PAINTED, NEW LINES, ALL RUBBER SEALS AND THE WHITE TOP INSTALLED ONE YEAR AGO FOR THE TIDY SUM OF $1600.00. THIS KILLER GTO SITS ON RALLY 1 WHEELS WITH NEW RAISED WHITE LETTER GOODYEAR RADIAL TIRES WITH LESS THAN 200 MILES ON THEM.

THIS GTO WAS BORN WITH A RED BUCKET SEAT INTERIOR, THE BUCKET SEATS AND DOOR PANELS ARE ORIGINAL TO THE CAR. THE RED CARPET WAS CHANGED A FEW YEARS AGO. THE CONSOLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. NOTICE THE CORRECT 4-SPEED SHIFTER? THE WOOD GRAIN DASH IS NEW/RESTORED. THE ORIGINAL STEERING WHEEL IS BEAUTIFUL WITH NO CRACKS.   CHECK OUT THE FACTORY TACH AND RALLY GAUGES? THE PADDED DASH IS PERFECT. EVERYTHING WORKS AS IT SHOULD. INSIDE THE DOOR JAMBS ARE VERY CLEAN. THE ORIGINAL A.M. RADIO HAS BEEN CONVERTED TO A MODERN, AM/FM STEREO RADIO, WITH AUXILARY JACK, BUT YOU'D NEVER KNOW BY LOOKING, BECAUSE THE APPEARANCE AND OPERATION OF THE CONTROLS IS STILL THE SAME AS WHEN THE RADIO WAS INSTALLED AT THE FACTORY. THERE IS A SEAM THAT OPENED UP ON THE DRIVERS SEAT. OTHER THAN THAT THE INTERIOR IS BEAUTIFUL.

UNDER THE HOOD YOU CAN SEE THE IMPRESSIVE TRI-POWER BIG BLOCK. THE MOTOR IS A 1969 455 CI YC CODE. THE TRI-POWER SETUP IS ORIGINAL TO THE CAR. ALSO THERE IS CORRECT EXHAUST MANIFOLDS INSTALLED. THE ENGINE AND BAY IS CLEAN AND RECENTLY PAINTED, AND COULD BE BROUGHT UP TO SHOW STANDARDS WITH MINIMAL EFFORT.  THE 455 RUNS AWESOME AND COOL.  THE FIRE WALL IS CLEAN AND UNCUT, THE POWER DISC BRAKE BOOSTER IS PLATED CORRECTLY. NOTICE THE PROPORTION VALVE AND POWER STEERING.  THE CORRECT HOOD INSULATION IS NEW.  THE MUNCIE M-21 TRANSMISSION TAKES CARE OF THE SHIFTING DUTIES.  A BRAND NEW CLUTCH, PRESSURE PLATE AND THROW-OUT BEARING HAS JUST BEEN INSTALLED. THE REAR END IS THE ORIGINAL SAFE “T” TRACK POSI UNIT.

LOOKING UNDERNEATH THIS GTO MAKES YOU UNDERSTAND REAL QUICK “THIS CAR IS CLEAN”. YOU CAN EAT OFF THE FLOORS OF THIS CAR. THE FRAME IS NICE AND CLEAN AS WELL. THE QUARTERS ARE ORIGINAL TO THIS GTO AND THE DROP OFFS ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. IN THE VERY CLEAN ORIGINAL TRUNK YOU WILL FIND THE SPARE TIRE ON A FACTORY RALLY 1 WHEEL, CORRECT DECALS ARE ON THE DECK LID. THE PRISTINE TRUNK MAT IS IN PLACE AS WELL.

I’M SURE I FORGOT SOMETHING, SO ASK QUESTIONS.  THIS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING GTO CONVERTIBLE WOULD MAKE A WONDERFUL ADDITION TO YOUR CLASSIC CAR COLLECTION. THIS CAR WOULD MAKE ANYONES GARAGE LOOK GOOD… THE ORIGINAL MILES ON THE ODOMETER SHOW 53,847, THE TITLE STATES ACTUAL MILEAGE.  TODAY, I TOOK THE CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE FALL, DROVE IT, WASHED IT, AND ENJOYED IT, KNOWING IT MAY BE THE LAST TIME I DRIVE IT.   BUT,  WHAT A HEAD TURNER IT IS…. PEOPLE STOPPED ME AT THE CAR WASH, GAS STATION, SUPER MARKET, AND IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD.  IT GOES DOWN THE ROAD MINT AND PERFORMS FLAWLESLY… ALSO IT RUNS COOL AS A CUCUMBER.. JUST A FUN CAR TO DRIVE…

This 1988 Pontiac Grand Prix Daytona 500 pace car could be yours

Fri, Jan 29 2021

Hopefully, the fans of GM's W-body '80s/'90s intermediates can forgive us, but we had pretty much forgotten — or had never really known — that one of the ways that era's Pontiac Grand Prix bathed itself in glory was by serving as the pace car for the Daytona 500. In fact, the Grand Prix paced NASCAR's marquee race every year from 1988 to 1992, and again in 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2003. That first year, 1988, the Grand Prix was all-new, making its debut on the W-body platform. It was also Motor Trend's car of the year. The 1988 Daytona 500 marked the 17th year in a row that a Pontiac was chosen to set the pace but the first time a front-wheel-drive car was so honored. The '88 Grand Prix followed a spate of Pontiac Trans Ams. This '88 Grand Prix, for sale right now on eBay Motors, is presented as an actual pace car, although fans could order a complete set of pace car decals for their very own GP. The pace car is based on that year's top-spec Grand Prix, the SE. In place of the standard car's 2.8-liter V6, however, the pace car uses a modified 3.1-liter V6, which is hooked to a five-speed manual transmission. This Grand Prix is otherwise largely standard fare excepting the roof-mounted light bar, the switches for which are located next to the radio. The mechanical odometer tucked into the digital instrument cluster shows just over 5,000 miles, and presumably, not all of them were acquired on the high-banked oval. With four days to go in the auction, bidding sits at $4,000 with the reserve unmet. Although the reserve is unknown, one clue is that this Grand Prix had been listed by a classic-car dealership in Pennsylvania for $18,500. Besides the debut of the W-body Grand Prix pace car, the 1988 race is also notable for its final lap: Bobby Allison held off his son, Davey Allison, to take the checkered flag, with the father-son duo enjoying a 1-2 finish. Now, who wants to re-live those Grand Prix glory days? Get on your Pontiac and ride!   This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.

Junkyard Gem: 1988 Pontiac LeMans Sedan

Tue, Feb 7 2017

During the 1960s, the Pontiac LeMans was a sporty, rear-wheel-drive midsize car, the GTO's cheaper sibling. Through the 1970s and into the middle 1980s, the LeMans became a bit less youthful-looking but remained a traditional rear-wheel-drive Detroit machine with a V8 engine option. Then, starting in the 1988 model year, the LeMans name went onto a South Korean-built version of the misery-inducing, front-wheel-drive Opel Kadett E. These were dark days for the Pontiac marque; here's the proof, photographed at a San Francisco Bay Area self-service wrecking yard last month. This one didn't quite make it to the 100,000-mile mark. These cars were very, very cheap and sold reasonably well, but nearly all of the 1988-1993 LeManses are hatchbacks. I have seen a total of two Daewoo LeMans sedans during the last decade, and this is one of them. Under the hood, 74 raging Opel/Daewoo horsepower. This content is hosted by a third party. In the United States, the ads for the LeMans were all about the hatchback, and all about cheap excitement.
