1966 PONTIAC GTO CONVERTIBLE, #'s MATCHING, TRI-POWER, 4-SPEED, PHS DOCS - Occasionally, something rare and desirable comes up for sale on E-Bay, such as this GTO. I am the third owner of this "Goat". We have owned it about 5-years. It has always resided within 30-miles of my home. I have known about the car since about 1976. This is one of the most solid GTOs of this era you will ever find that has not been restored or made into a hot rod. This car retains all of its original body panels. The floors including trunk and the frame are excellent. All of the moldings and emblems are original. The interior including the carpet, door panels, seats, dash, steering wheel, and console, are all very nice. It is hard to believe it is 47-years old! All of the glass is good; the windows roll-up and down well; all gauges, lights, signals, horn, wipers, heater, and radio work properly. The power convertible top is black and looks nice, although the back window is badly yellowed and needs replaced. The top goes up and down fine. The current top was installed in the late 70's. About that same time, the paint color was changed from its original Reef Turquoise to Black. Yes, this Black paint is the same from 1978. Although far from perfect, it is still very presentable "as is". The bumpers are vintage 1966. The engine is the original #'s matching code WS, 360 HP, 389 ci that it was "born with". It was rebuilt to stock specs with a .040 overbore. It still has its original 093 heads, distributor, and exhaust manifolds. The carbs, air cleaner valve covers are the originals. The 4-speed transmission is correct, but not #'s matching. Original is in-hand, but it needs rebuilt due to a busted tail shaft in the late 70's. The original shifter is still in place and works fine, but is a little stiff (time for rebuild). The rear is original with its 3:55 posi. The doors, trunk, and hood open and shut very nice and have excellent gaps; door vent chrome is nice. Repainted the trunk floor and installed the new mat. The correct jack is still in place. The exhaust is the original style with quiet mufflers as original. Added the Ralleye I wheels and Coker redlines. Originally, it had whitewalls and poverty caps, which I do not have. This car starts, runs, drives and stops excellent. Please take note - this car has very few options - No power steering or power brakes. Actually, it steers pretty easily and the brakes (rebuilt) work great. There are no unusual noises or rattles when driving this car. It has 94,736 miles which I am sure are original. Although, the second owner doesn't recall, it appears there may have been slight damage to the left fender, probably minor. If you are seriously interested in this rare "goat", please call me and let's talk. Although, not a show car, it's certainly not anything to be ashamed of. This car can be reliably driven cross-country. Recently, drove it on a 5-hour road trip thru the mountains of WV with no issues. Partial muscle car trades may be considered, or a 1961-1964 Caddy Convertible, but please no rust buckets. For further inspection, you or a representative may inspect the car on a lift in my shop. Clear title in my name in-hand. PHS docs, original sales invoice, protecto plate, build order sheet, manuals, dated build tags are all in-hand. GTO's have probably been the most stable automobile investment of all time. They don't get any better than this 1966, tri-power, 4-speed, convertible plus documentation. Safe, dry, indoor storage will be provided for up to 30-days. Full payment is expected within 7-days of auction close. I reserve the right to end auction early. Any questions, please call me at 304-261-1643 - no text please. |

eBay Find of the Day: 1967 Pontiac GTO Monkeemobile
Sun, 29 Apr 2012Say what you will about The Monkees, but the guys in the band had great taste in automobiles. Take the Monkeemobile, for example. Built off a 1967 Pontiac GTO Convertible, the custom featured genuinely interesting bodywork and some wild engine bolt-ons. If you're a fan of 1960s pop and yearn to relive the genre's glory days, eBay Motors may have what you need. A recreation of the 1967 Monkeemobile has showed up for auction. This particular replica was built by Dakota County Customs using an four-speed GTO, just like the original.
Built for the band's 45th anniversary and the final Monkees tour last year, this Monkeemobile is faithful down to every last detail. Unfortunately, the trumpet exhaust poking out of the front fender wells and the massive gold-flake blower are for show only. Seems fitting.
If you like what you see, this machine is up for bid in Richfield, Minnesota with two days left on the auctions. So far, bidding as whipped up to $60,000 with the reserve not met. Head over to eBay Motors to have a look.
Junkyard Gem: 1986 Pontiac Fiero 2M4
Sun, Oct 8 2023The mid-engined, plastic-bodied Pontiac Fiero two-seater caused great excitement when it hit the streets as a 1984 model, then became something of an embarrassment for GM when its design flaws became clear to the car-buying public. Still, when a V6 engine became available for 1985, followed by a fastback roof for 1986, the air of Pontiac Excitement around the Fiero lingered to a certain extent. We took a look at a discarded '86 Fiero GT with both the 2.8-liter V6 and the fastback body last year, and now we'll take a look at an example of the econo-commuter four-cylinder notchback version from the same year. Pontiac used the 2M4 designation (standing for two seats, mid-engine, four cylinders) on four-cylinder Fieros, while the six-cylinder cars were known as 2M6s. 2M4 decals went on four-banger Fieros for the 1984-1986 model years, while 2M6 decals seem to have been applied less consistently to the V6 cars of that period. During the early development period of the car that became the Fiero, the idea was that it would be a nimble sports car with a lightweight engine. Then the plan shifted, with the Fiero intended to be a gas-sipping commuter. When the car finally hit showrooms, it was a lot heavier than intended, it had a Chevy Citation front suspension in the back plus a Chevette front suspension, and its engine was the low-revving, weighty Iron Duke 2.5-liter straight-four. The Duke was about the least sports-car-appropriate four-cylinder engine The General could dredge up from his parts bins, but it was cheap and there was no shortage of production capacity. By the time the Fiero came out, the Iron Duke had been renamed the Tech 4. This one was rated at 92 horsepower and 132 pound-feet. The V6 Fieros get all the press today, but plenty of the Duked versions were sold (amazingly, the Chevrolet Camaro was available with Iron Duke power from 1982 through 1986). The emissions sticker tells us that this was a California-market car, rather than the "49-state" model the rest of the country got. California-specific emissions hardware added $99 to this car's price ($277 in 2023 dollars). While this car is a base model, the original buyer loaded it with options. The transmission is a three-speed automatic, priced at $465 (about $1,303 in 2023 dollars). A five-speed manual was standard equipment on the 1986 Fiero, though the old-fashioned four-speed manual was still available for a $50 credit ($140 now).
GM recalls 61k more vehicles in three campaigns
Sun, 05 Oct 2014Following a stop-delivery order for its new midsize trucks and a rash of recent recalls, General Motors is issuing three more campaigns covering 60,575 vehicles in North America with 57,182 of them in the US. As of October 1, the automaker has issued a total of 74 recalls (see the ridiculously long chart to the right) this year covering 26,495,070 units in the US.
The largest campaign covers 46,873 examples in the US of the 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 and 2011-2013 Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle imported from Australia. It's possible for the driver's knee to hit the key and make it move from the "Run" to "ACC" position while driving. GM says its Holden division is developing a fixed-blade key that's supposed to fix the problem by only allowing it to rotate toward the "On" position. There has been one crash caused by this fault but no injuries or fatalities.
The second recall is for 10,005 units of the 2004-2007 Cadillac CTS-V and 2006-2007 Cadillac STS-V because "the fuel pump module electrical terminal may overheat." This can cause a flange to melt and allow the pump to leak fuel. GM specifies that the remedy for the CTS-V is replacing the fuel module and fuel tank jumper harness, but it doesn't specify how the STS-V is being repaired.
