For Sale:  1965 Pontiac GTO 2-Door Hardtop and body parts. This is an original two-owner car, it is running and driving, and comes with numerous rust-free body parts (from another real GTO) to complete a partial or full restoration if desired. Car is now black with a partial black vinyl top and with a black interior. Originally it was charcoal blue (kind of a teal color, see it on the firewall near data plate picture), with brown vinyl top and black interior.  It was a 389 V8 with tri-power and an automatic 2 speed – now it has a GM crate motor (300 hp edition) with 3 speed 350 trans (from the late 1990s). It also has new, full dual exhaust that is fairly new with Trans Am dual tailpipes. Most lights and accessories work on the car. Car has 98,000 original miles on it, motor and trans have an estimated 35,000 miles. Car and a ton of parts are selling without reserve for a fair price while the it is located in Central Illinois (rural setting, zip 60970) and the car comes with all the parts mentioned below.*****

This GTO’s body is rusty – pretty much every panel, except the hood, should be replaced or restored. Sills, door posts, around windows, and cowl are solid, as is the frame (can't warrant this, but various folks and mechanics have been under it). INCLUDED with the car are (2) red 65 GTO doors (rust free, from another 65 GTO Hardtop Coupe) with glass and trim on these doors, (2) white front fenders (rust free, from a 65 Tempest) so small trim holes on these fenders would need to be filled, (2) rear quarter window glass pieces with chrome and seals, (1) full trunk lid in red (rust free, from another GTO with GTO emblem), (1) additional tinted front window (original 65 GTO) in great shape (car’s current window is not cracked or bad), an Edelbrock 1901 - 4 barrel carb (would need to be redone), and the bezel for the console around the shifer (original piece) along with the original GTO emblem from passenger quarter panel. Hood seems able to be saved, but quarter panels would have to be replaced or patched (these are available). Frame on the car is good, as are the cross members, although the trunk floor is shot and the inside floor in front of both seats is shot (that is why seats are tipped, although useable). Vinyl top on car is shot, there is rust on the roof, and the roof has some small holes here and there that would need to be repaired, but are repairable. Dash is complete, but does have some rust areas. Car also has had some speakers installed in the doors, some aftermarket gauges under the dash (some work), and some plastic sport mirrors on the doors. Car has vintage racing rims (magnesium) A F/X’s on it with more recent raised white letter tires (Cooper tires, Cobras...), brakes and lines have been serviced, motor was tuned, and all fluids changed along with tranny service (filter, fluid, modulator etc…). Engine also has a new fuel pump and gasket, new fuel filter and spark plugs, and timing was set. When the motor was purchased, the GM engine (without intake and gasket) was right at $2100, today this same motor at GM is over $3400 new cost. Although not the best looking, the car runs and drives very nice and is quite fast, engine is in good shape with good compression and tranny shifts fine.*****

Not included with the car is the portable gas tank that I am running the car on here at our farm (original tank is under car, but has damage and corrosion) and the battery as I borrowed it from another car. Currently the car is running a Quadrajet on an Edelbrock intake; I would recommend a change as the choke on the carb is not working and the carb base doesn’t fit the best on the intake – although it does work and run. Glass and chrome on the car are good and can be restored if desired. I really like the stance of this car and how it sits, and when warmed up, it will jerk your head. I planned on restoring it, but have had it stored without any progress toward redoing it. Current motor was purchased and installed by the original owner at a GM dealer near Oak Lawn, IL (Chicago area), car has been an Illinois car all its life as the original owner purchased it in Chicago, drove it to work, raced it on weekends (blew up the 389 in the 1980s), and then stored it until putting the 350 in it to drive it to work again. I have had the car a number of years in storage since purchasing it. Car does have mounts to hook a tow bar to the front for racing and has a hitch in the back. *****

Car and parts are selling here on eBay with no reserve (no warranty, no guarantee, no return, and selling as is and as shown).  I don’t have it for sale locally and won’t do so locally till Spring here if it does not sell. Title is clear, I just recently turned it in from the original owner to get it put in my name, so I will guarantee and receipt that I will provide good title for the car - when it is received back from the State I will forward it by registered mail or if back by end of sale, will simply sign off on it and hand it to new owner. I understand today (Friday 1/30/14) from the Sec. of State office that my GTO title was sent by the state on 1/29 of this week in route to me, so it should be arriving here during this listing and will be able to be signed off and handed to buyer. Deposit by Paypal of $1000 within three days of sale’s end, balance to be paid by either cash at pickup or by bank wire transfer prior to coming for the car (call for bank name, bank contact, and account/routing numbers) within two weeks after depositing. I will receipt new owner for each step in the payment process. If not picking up and paying within two weeks, car and parts can stay stored here for 30 days at no cost as long as it is fully paid for (bank wire option).  This vehicle should be trailered, along with the parts, as I have not driven it long distance – I have gone maybe an hour each way with it running/driving. Car is located in Watseka, IL (zip 60970) and it is about 1.5 hours south of Chicago, IL and about 15 miles west of the Illinois and Indiana state line - located in a rural area - easily loading. Car is able to drive up on a transport or trailer, can also be put on a trailer with equipment here at the farm - no charge. If sending a transport, I can assist with loading and logistics here at no charge, shipping itself and all arrangements are at buyer's expense and time. NOTE: I cannot meet the new owner or a transport from 2/19/14 Wed through 2/25/14 Tuesday as I am out of state at a meeting - I also cannot meet on Saturday 3/1/14 for the same reason - all other times are fine, call ahead of coming!  After 30 days, I will be unable to return the deposit funds, however, I will return the rest of the funds. I am just looking to find a new owner for this muscle car that deserves some attention! Please feel free to contact me with questions, come personally or send someone to look at and try the car if needed, or contact me with any other needs.*****

Destiny: General Motors should bring back Pontiac

Wed, Apr 26 2017

Despite having officially left the market in 2010, the Pontiac badge is still a common sight on roadways throughout the United States. Towards the end of its life, Pontiac models were largely rebadged versions of other General Motors vehicles, like the Pontiac G5 and Chevrolet Cobalt. It's sad, but there's no other way to put it; Pontiac was a mere shadow of its former self at the time of its death. Now it's time to revive the legendary brand. General Motors announced it would be reviving the Redline series, a package that originated with Saturn, another dead brand, earlier this year. Some models, like the Chevrolet Camaro will receive unique cosmetic touches designed to make it look even sportier, something Pontiac excelled at in most cases. Gas prices have fallen dramatically in the past few years and consumers have taken notice. Sales of fuel efficient cars, like hybrids and compact sedans, aren't increasing at the same rate as larger, less efficient vehicles, like trucks and SUVs. Muscle cars, like the Ford Mustang, are seeing increasing sales as well. Perhaps it's time to revive Pontiac and restore the marque to its former glory: a brand that brought performance and style at an affordable price. There are currently few manufacturers that offer a true challenge to high-performance automakers like BMW. The German brand continues to see high sales year after year and performance has a lot to do with it. Brand recognition, namely through the BMW badge, plays a major role as well. Pontiac, arguably one of the most well-known brands to ever grace the industry, can match both factors with ease. Pontiac was once revered as a brand that revolutionized the muscle car segment in the 1970s and 1980s. It still has a lively following throughout enthusiast spheres and amongst drivers of all ages to this day. Reviving the brand with a small line of high-performance vehicles would certainly offer a challenge to dominating German brands. A small lineup of affordable vehicles bearing the Pontiac badge and designed for performance and style would certainly make waves in the current market. Reviving a few older nameplates, such as the GTO and Trans Am, would offer nostalgic appeal. Packing both models with a powerful entry-level engine, say the Camaro's turbocharged four-cylinder or V6 engine, would open up the market considerably.

Win a car while supporting a charity this holiday season

Thu, Dec 9 2021

Autoblog may receive a share from purchases made via links on this page. Pricing and availability are subject to change. No donation or payment necessary to enter or win this sweepstakes. See official rules on Omaze.  The leaves have fallen, there is a crispness to the air and there have already been multiple forecasts of snow, which can only mean one thing: We're coming up on Christmas. While you've been busy thinking about what kind of gifts you're going to give your loved ones, we here at Autoblog have been deciding which dream car we'd like to see in our driveway on Christmas morning. A car for Christmas does seem a bit extreme and expensive, but thanks to these Omaze sweepstakes, it doesn't have to break the bank. Here are the current sweepstakes we'd like to win this holiday season. Win a DeLorean DMC-12 - Enter at Omaze James Riswick, West Coast Editor: Let me be clear, the DeLorean is a pretty terrible car. Its speedometer doesn't even go up to the fabled 88 mph. Seriously, look at the pictures: tops out at 85. Also, who services a DeLorean? And how much would it cost to maintain one? $AlloftheMoney or just $MostoftheMoney? So owning it could be a total headache, but at least by winning one through Omaze, you'd be relieved of the financial burden of buying one in the first place. You'd also get the chance to own one of the most iconic cars of all time, one that transcends car enthusiasm and is instantly recognizable by everyone as the "Back to the Future" car. Plus, "everyone" doesn't know that the DeLorean was actually a pretty terrible car. So, I already own James Bond's car from 1995, why not Doc Brown's from 1985? Win a 2021 Bentley Bentayga V8 - Enter at Omaze Eddie Sabatini, Production Manager: Why am I choosing a +$200K Bentley SUV? Because even if I could afford one I'd never be able to wrap my head around spending money on one. So why not try to win one by donating what I can afford to a good cause? I first saw the Bentley Bentayga up close and personal at the Frankfurt Motor Show (I forget which year but I'll never forget this SUV). And although it looks like the Bentayga Omaze is offering up doesn't have the opulent tailgate setup I fell in love with when I saw it in Frankfurt, I'd still enter to win. Win a 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Pagoda - Enter at Omaze Byron Hurd, Editor: Few automotive marketing efforts stick out in my head more than the Mercedes-Benz holiday spots and magazine placements.

Even Ferrari swept up in latest Takata recall expansion

Fri, May 27 2016

The scope of Takata's deadly airbag problems continues to widen. Eight manufacturers announced recalls Friday that affect more than 12 million vehicles, according to documents filed with federal regulators. The automakers include Honda, which is recalling 4.5 million units, Fiat Chrysler with 4.3 million, Toyota with 1.65 million, and Subaru, which is recalling almost 400,000. Some of these cars include the Saab 9-2x and Pontiac Vibe that Toyota and Subaru made for General Motors. Mazda will recall 730,000 vehicles and Nissan has 400,000 affected units. The smallest numbers were posted by Mitsubishi, with 38,000 Lancers manufactured from 2006 to 2007, and as a noteworthy high-end manufacturer, Ferrari is calling back 2,800 vehicles. These are all US-market cars. Beyond America, the Japanese Transport Ministry has announced seven million additional vehicles will be recalled, which means 19.6 million vehicles across the globe are affected by recalls announced. The defects have been traced to an insufficiently manufactured airbag inflator, which lacks a drying agent that would prevent the inflators from deteriorating over time. Thirteen deaths have been linked to the faulty airbags, which have become unstable and are prone to exploding and showering vehicle occupants with lethal amounts of metal shrapnel. A private equity firm, KKR & Co., has been named in a possible buyout of the struggling Takata.
