Up for auction with NO RESERVE! is a very rare 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ 428! This car is a survivor and is mostly original. The 428 is original to the car and always fires right up and sounds amazing! It runs and drives great and is a blast to cruise on the freeway, around town or out on the country back roads. This car has just recently went on a 2,500 mile road trip and ran perfect! This car is mechanically amazing!! The 428 sounds very healthy and has lots of power and a smooth idle. The exhaust is all new all the way back to Magnaflow mufflers, and again...it really brings out the character in the 428's sound. The A/C has been removed but does come with sale of the car. The carb has been rebuilt. The alternator has been replaced. The automatic transmission shifts fluidly and smoothly through all the gears with no problems or hesitation. The rear end works as it should and has no whining sounds or funny noises. The car drives straight down the road and the power steering makes for a more enjoyable time in modern traffic. The brakes function as they should and stop the car properly. It brakes straight with no pulling to either side. The factory power disc brakes up front also provide for a more comfortable driving experience in modern traffic. The front suspension is original and the rear springs have been upgraded with Hotchkis Suspension springs which offer a smoother ride and increased control. The front Hotchkis springs are included with the car but were never installed, however the ride is currently smooth and comfortable. The paint is old driver quality as you can see in the pictures and has only been done once from the factory green to white. There are areas of rust pointed out in the pictures but that's it. The floors and trunk are solid which is also shown in the undercarriage shots. The trim is original to the car and still shines good. The back bumper has just been rechromed and looks great. The front bumper has pitting and a hole in the front section. Included with the car is a factory 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix front bumper that has been completely re-chromed the right way. All the glass is in good condition without any cracks. The interior of the car is original and in good shape for being 45 years old. The driver seat has some tearing at the bottom at some of the seams as well as the upper side of the seat. The passenger seat has only a couple small tears you can barely see. The back bench seat is in great original condition with no rips or tears. The headliner is original and in great condition with no rips or tears. The door panels are both original and are in good condition with some minor fading and scuffs from over the years. This is a factory power window car and both windows roll up and down as they should. They can be a bit slow and could probably use a good lube to be as fast as they could. The dash is original with no cracks. The steering wheel is original and the horn works great! The stereo was replaced at some point in the 80's with an AM/FM cassette player that still works and provides some decent sounds to cruise to. This car came factory equipped with the shoulder harness seat belts as well as the lap belts and they are all original to the car. The heater is not hooked up however the controls work and the blower motor works. The headlights work, the turn signals work, the high beams work, the courtesy lights and the brake lights work as they should. The wheels are original rally wheels to the car. This a clean title car and the registration is current. There is no need for smog ever. This is a fantastic rare, original, survivor 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ 428! These 428 cars are getting very hard to find due to the limited production numbers by Pontiac. This car is an awesome driver that turns heads everywhere you go. This is your chance to get a very collectible Pontiac Grand Prix SJ 428 at NO RESERVE!  Please look at my feedback and bid with confidence! Good luck!

AMC Trans Am Javelin SST, an ultra-rare underdog, is up for auction

Sat, Sep 9 2023

Among the rarest of the American muscle cars that went racing in the early Seventies — cars including the Camaro Z/28 and the Boss 302 Mustang — the 1970 AMC Trans Am Javelin SST may be the most hard to find, and among the most valuable. Only 100 units of this unique Javelin were produced, and one of them is up for auction at the Mecum event in Dallas on September 20. The Trans Am Javelin was fashioned in a patriotic livery of tricolor paint — red, white and blue — and arrived after the American Motors Corporation had decided in 1968 to compete in the Trans Am racing series against Ford and General Motors. The company's chief driver, Mark Donohue, would dominate the 1971 season, taking seven wins in his Javelin AMX and that yearÂ’s SCCA Trans-Am Championship. AMC took the trophy with 82 points, well ahead of Ford's 61, Chevrolet's 17 and Pontiac's paltry 7. The example listed for auction came equipped with a 390-cubic-inch V-8 engine with 325 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 420 pound-feet of torque, power steering and brakes, dual exhaust, BorgWarner four-speed manual transmission and Hurst competition shifter. Its “ram induction system” sealed a chamber around the air filter so that cool air from the functional hood scoop would be funneled into the intake. This JavÂ’s factory price was $3,995 — a mere $32,000 or so in today's money, though it was expensive by the standards of the time. The 100 Trans Ams were among 19,714 Javelin units built in 1970, so they started out rare, and today the surviving examples are highly collectible, if and when they come up for sale. GM Recalling Another 2.7 Million Vehicles In Five Separate Campaigns

Thu, May 15 2014

The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles. The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles – some of them the same models – but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago. The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents. A further 112k Corvette models from the 2005-2007 model years are being called in for problems with their low-beam headlamps resulting from a flexing relay control circuit wire that's not meant to bend. GM says it is "aware of several hundred complaints" about this issue, but notes that there have been no reports of related accidents. In addition, over 19k examples of Cadillac CTS from the 2013 and 2014 model years are being recalled over windshield wipers that might not work after a jump start. Finally, GM is also bringing in 477 examples of its 2014 Chevy Silverado, Tahoe and GMC Sierra (though not the Yukon) to fix a problem with a tie rod in its steering rack. As ever, all recall repairs will be performed free of charge, and GM is now estimating that recall-related actions this quarter will result in an estimated $200-million charge against its second-quarter earnings. Read the full announcement from GM below for further details.

CNN chronicles young girl building Pontiac Fiero

Fri, 26 Oct 2012

At fourteen years of age, Kathryn DiMaria has already done what many self-proclaimed gearheads won't even attempt in their lifetimes. The Dearborn, Michigan teen is rebuilding a car from the ground up.
The intrepid youngster asked her parents when she was just twelve to start a Pontiac Fiero project, even offering to pony up all the funds herself. Father, Jerry DiMaria only expected the project to last a few months, but two years later, Kathryn is still at it. In this CNN video, the two are at Maker Faire (a DIY festival) rebuilding a 3.4-liter V6 engine out of a Chevrolet Camaro to replace the 2.8-liter mill found in the Fiero.
The whole family hast pitched in, with Kathryn's mother teaching her how to sew in order to complete the interior, father Jerry providing much of the technical know-how, and even her sister is chronicling Kathryn's progress through photos. Jerry even started a thread in a Fiero forum which has been live for two years and is now 22 pages long. Of the project, one forum member wrote, "welcome to the madness."
