--------------'71 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX ------------- 3 OWNER CALIFORNIA CAR---------------

- History -   This is a 3 owner 42 year old car that has spent its entire life in the great state of California. The car was special ordered by the original owner from Arata Pontiac in Burlingame CA as verified by the build sheet and PHS documentation. The car spent its entire life on the San Francisco Peninsula until a friend of mine bought it from the original owner in Daly City CA. with 48,000 actual miles in 2004. At that time the car still had its original paint, belts, hoses, plug wires, spring ring battery cable ends etc..... needless to say all of that has since been replaced to make this classic a reliable daily driver......... It even has the original keys.... It still has both of its original blue and yellow California plates as well....I do have the front license plate and bracket....I think the front end looks better without it... The car now has 56,000 original miles and runs and drives great.... I would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere.

- Mechanical - The car is powered by the original "born with" numbers matching 300 horse 400 V8... which is the same 400 used in the GTO's that year. The engine runs and sounds excellent. The original points distributor was replaced with a more efficient HEI unit. OEM Pontiac chrome valve covers and air cleaner lid have been added. The engine compartment has been nicely detailed. The original turbo 400 shifts as it should. The car drives and stops straight... Even on the hottest California days the car runs nice and cool and does not overheat....even in bumper to bumper traffic.  Within the last 8,000 miles several parts have been replaced to make this car a reliable daily driver...some of those items are... Radiator(an aftermarket aluminum unit was used), Water pump, Belts, Hoses, Flowmaster mufflers, Battery, Valve cover gaskets The car also has newer deep tread P235/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires and new Wheel Vintique Rally II wheels with new center caps, trim rings and lug nuts. The tires could use a rebalancing and there is a slight exhaust leak.....probably and exhaust donut.... just haven't had the time to deal it.  Other than that....the car runs and drives excellent!

- Body - This is a straight solid California car that has never been driven on a salted road.....infact....I don't think it has ever been out of the state of California. The undercarriage is that to be expected of a low mile California car. The undercarriage is rock solid and does not have any cancerous rust.....just the usual road grime and minor surface rust. The car was repainted the original color in 2007. It is a basecoat/clearcoat paint job that shows nicely but does exhibit some flaws.... I would consider the paint job to be a 5 footer... This is a 1 repaint car that does not appear to have ever been in a major accident. all of the body panels line up very nicely....just like it left the factory. The bumpers and trim are all original and present nicely. The vinyl top was replaced in 2007 as well. The correct grain was used when the top was replaced. The car is a great driver...turns heads and receives compliments everywhere it goes. The car is still sporting its original Power Beam headlights. A new windshield was recently installed.

- Interior - The interior is in mint condition. The dash is perfect....NO CRACKS! The passenger door panel is free from any cracks as well... The drivers door panel does show a minor crack in the armrest area that is hardly noticeable. The seats are free from any rips or trears. The headliner is in excellent condition as well. The carpet does show some fading though but is in excellent condition. The car is well equipped with power steering, power brakes, power windows(all working), air conditioning(needs servicing but all there and hooked up), AM radio(inop), clock(inop aren't they all), remote mirror.....etc....

I do have a clean and clear California title in my name and is registered until July 2014. If you would like to talk in person please feel free to call me at (925)550-8289...my name is Joe.... This is a bid to win auction.... The reserve is very fair and reasonable. If you want to know the reserve....please bid what you are willing to pay and you just might own it....... I am not looking to play games...  I will not end the auction early....so please BID TO WIN!.. Thank you....and good luck :)

All shipping arrangements and costs is the buyers responsibility. Vehicle is sold as-is no warranty so please keep in mind that this is a 42 year old automobile. Vehicle and title will not be released until paid in full funds have cleared my bank. If you do not have the funds to purchase the car....then please do not bid. Overseas buyers are welcomed but shipping and customs will be buyers responsibility. Local cash buyers are also welcomed to bid. All bidders are welcomed to inspect vehicle in person prior to bidding...just call the above # to set up an appointment.

GM expands ignition switch recall to over 1.3 million cars amid climbing death toll

Tue, 25 Feb 2014

588,000 Saturn Sky, Saturn Ion, Pontiac Solstice and Chevy HHR models join the 778,000 cars already being recalled.
General Motors has announced a massive expansion of a 778,000-unit recall we told you about two weeks ago, doubling not only the total number of cars affected but expanding the recall beyond Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 models previously mentioned. The recall originally centered around ignition switches that could slip out of the "run" position if jostled or if any weight was applied to the key in the cylinder.

Baseball team to dress like Trans Am, complete with screaming chicken

Fri, Feb 8 2019

Come to think of it, the Screaming Chicken actually sounds like the name of a minor league baseball team. Well, it isn't, but the famous logo of the same name that graced the hood of the 1970s Pontiac Trans Am will at least be making it to a baseball uniform this summer. The Lansing Lugnuts, a Single-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, will be rocking these special uniforms to honor the late Burt Reynolds and his film Smokey and the Bandit. By default, it will also be honoring the car the movie made famous: the 1977 Trans Am painted black with gold trim and, of course, the screaming chicken on the hood. This is a pretty good history of the emblem. So why the Lugnuts and Burt Reynolds? Although he claimed to be born in Georgia for much of his career, he admitted in a 2015 autobiography that he was in fact born in Lansing, Mich. After a few years, his family settled in Florida. Not exactly hometown hero stuff, but minor league baseball promotions have been made of more tenuous connections. The Burt Reynolds tribute night will be July 20, and if you want to get a screaming chicken jersey for yourself (I mean, wouldn't they be perfect for a cars and coffee?), the game-used jerseys will be auctioned off for charity after the game.

Junkyard Gem: 1984 Pontiac Fiero with supercharged 3800 V6 swap

Tue, Dec 31 2019

Like the Corvair, the Vega, and the Citation, the Pontiac Fiero was a very innovative machine that ended up causing General Motors more headaches than happiness, and Fiero aficionados and naysayers continue to beat each other with tire irons (figuratively speaking, I hope) to this day. The General has often proved willing to take the occasional big gamble and huge GM successes in engineering prowess (including the first overhead-valve V8 engine for the masses and the first real-world-usable true automatic transmission) and marketing brilliance (e.g., the Pontiac GTO and related John DeLorean home runs) meant that the idea of a mid-engined sporty economy car (or economical sports car) got a shot from the suits on the 14th floor. Sadly, the Fiero ended up being the marketplace victim of too many issues to get into here, and The General pulled the plug immediately after the 1988-model-year suspension redesign that made the Fiero the sports car it should have been all along. But what if the plastic Pontiac had never suffered from the misery of the gnashy, pokey Iron Duke engine and had been built from the start with a screaming supercharged V6 making way better than 200 horsepower? The final owner of today's Junkyard Gem sought to make that very Fiero, by dropping in one of the many supercharged 3.8-liter V6s installed in 1990s and 2000s GM factory hot rods. The first Fieros came out in 1983 for model year 1984, and the only engine available that year was the Iron Duke 2.5-liter four-cylinder, which generated its 92 horsepower with the full-throated song of a Soviet tractor stuck in the freezing mud of a Polish sugar-beet field. The 2M4 badging stood for "two seats, mid-engine, four cylinders," just as the numbers in the Oldsmobile 4-4-2 once represented "four carburetor barrels, four-speed manual transmission, dual exhaust." This car is a top-trim-level SE model, which listed for $9,599 (about $24,200 today). The no-frills Fiero cost just $7,999 that year, making these cars far cheaper than the only other reasonably affordable new mid-engined car Americans could buy at that time: the $13,990 Bertone (aka Fiat) X1/9. The Toyota MR2 appeared in North America as a 1985 model with a base price of $10,999 and promptly siphoned off the car-buying cash from a bunch of potential Fiero shoppers.
