Virginia Tech 2001 Pontiac Grand Am Gt1 3.4l on 2040-cars
Mechanicsville, Virginia, United States
This is a carefully maintained and enhanced Virginia Tech Hokies Tailgating car. Built in 2006 starting with a stock 2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT1 3.4L vehicle, this car is completely overhauled and enhanced to perform as the ultimate tailgating vehicle and portable audio and video entertainment system.
The buyer of the vehicle must be a dedicated and diehard Virginia Tech fan and ideally a car enthusiast capable of maintaining and enhancing the vehicle as needed. This vehicle has had approximately $45,000 in enhancements added over the past 8 years. The car is maroon with orange racing stripes and painted VT logos (clear coated) with two large (5') Hokie Bird stickers on each site. The rear window contains a large VT sticker. Custom made 19" chrome wheels with burnt orange lips. The primary feature is the extremely loud sound system consisting of two sets of JL VR Crossover Speakers powered by a 450w JL 4 channel amp, two 10" JL subwoofers powered by two 300 watt JL amps, and two interior and two trunk lid speakers powered by a 300 watt JL amp. The car is equipped with a 19" TV in the rear trunk lid with hookups for an XBOX, Satellite Dish, etc. Comes with a DirectTV receiver pre-installed and wired with an IR receiver in the trunk. A 7" in-dash LCD touch screen head unit controls the system with dual-zone front and rear audio allowing you to play music while still watching TV or playing a video game console. The horn is a Horntones mp3 horn, complete with all fight songs and the official Gobble played in Lane Stadium (acquired from the Athletics department). The car has built in orange police strobe lights installed in the front and rear fog light housings and in the custom fiberglass trunk display. Custom fiberglass work is included in the kickpanels and in the entire trunk display. All custom features were pre-approved by the Virginia Tech Licensing Department for one time use on the vehicle. More information on the vehicle and photos can be found at the Hokie Car Website. The domain and website can be included as a part of the sale, you will be responsible for future hosting and domain fees once transferred. I regret having to sell this car, but I hope it lands in the right hands. It is my hope to use the proceeds from this sale to start constructing the next generation Virginia Tech tailgating car, SUV, or RV in the next few years. This is a great car for a current student or recent college graduate as a project car and as a centerpiece of one of the best tailgates on campus! GO HOKIES! |

GM Recalling Another 2.7 Million Vehicles In Five Separate Campaigns
Thu, May 15 2014The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles. The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles – some of them the same models – but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago. The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents. A further 112k Corvette models from the 2005-2007 model years are being called in for problems with their low-beam headlamps resulting from a flexing relay control circuit wire that's not meant to bend. GM says it is "aware of several hundred complaints" about this issue, but notes that there have been no reports of related accidents. In addition, over 19k examples of Cadillac CTS from the 2013 and 2014 model years are being recalled over windshield wipers that might not work after a jump start. Finally, GM is also bringing in 477 examples of its 2014 Chevy Silverado, Tahoe and GMC Sierra (though not the Yukon) to fix a problem with a tie rod in its steering rack. As ever, all recall repairs will be performed free of charge, and GM is now estimating that recall-related actions this quarter will result in an estimated $200-million charge against its second-quarter earnings. Classic Pontiac Trans Am Firebird Super Duty 455 sells for nearly $90,000
Fri, Aug 25 2023Historically, the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am raised the performance levels a notch or two over a plain Firebird in the muscle car hierarchy of the Sixties. But the Super Duty 455 version of the Trans Am — that number represents the cubic inches of the hand-assembled V8 engine — moved the performance needle big time in 1974. So much so that a clean example of the machine sold recently on the Hagerty Marketplace auction site for $89,296. Advertised with just under 54,000 miles on the clock and having undergone a thorough restoration, the Buccaneer Red model was one of just 943 Pontiac Firebirds equipped with the Super Duty 455 package for the 1974 model year. That build had also been offered in 1973. The Hagerty listing drew more than 21,000 views and 39 bids. According to Hagerty's valuation report, a similar car would be worth $85,700 in good condition, and $103,000 if it was in ‘“concours condition.” The Super Duty motor borrowed technology from the lineÂ’s 366-cubic-inch NASCAR engine, and featured heavy-duty connecting rods and an entirely new block with a revised crankshaft and heads to deliver a claimed 310 horsepower. The Firebird that sold was indeed loaded, with a three-speed Hydra-matic transmission (which surely reduced its overall value), power locks and windows, AC, dual exhausts, heavy duty stabilizer bars all around, and a “custom Interior trimmed in Red perforated Morrokide vinyl upholstery.” The entry of PontiacÂ’s pony car in the U.S., facing off against the Mustang and Camaro, dates back to 1967, when it was offered with an inline six and optional V8. The first Trans Ams were introduced two years later, the name derived from a handling package. General Motors ceased production of new Pontiacs in 2002 owing to declining sales and losing stakes in the sports coupe market. The big 455-cid V-8 had disappeared years earlier.
GM issues four new recalls, 2.4 million cars affected
Tue, 20 May 2014General Motors has announced another set of recalls, covering some 2.42 million cars in the United States. For those keeping track, The General has now recalled over 15 million cars worldwide this year due to various issues.
Here's the breakdown for this most recent set of recalls:
1,339,355 - Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia models from the 2009 to 2014 model years; Saturn Outlook models from the 2009 to 2010 model years
