1973 Pontiac Grand Am, Black, 2 Door, Rare on 2040-cars
Harlan, Indiana, United States
Hello, I purchased this 5 years ago from one of two brothers that have owned it. It has always been garage kept. It had 94,800 miles when I purchased it.The body was redone at Bill Defouw Chevrolet in Layfayette, IN in the end of 2009.This included putting on a new fiberglass front end to replace the urethane one that came on them. Also a new windshield was put in at this time.
below is a list of things that were done between 9/01/09 and 3 /1/10. Transmission was rebuilt, including a rebuilt torque converter. Engine was rebuilt, completely stock, including boring .030 over, and replacing 8 valve guides, and resurfacing the heads on the exhaust manifold sides. Also a custom made 2 piece viton rear main seal was installed. Luster Glaze sealed the paint. New HEI distributor. Still have the original. New carburator. Still have the original. New Spark plug wires. New Water pump. New fuel pump. Rebuilt power steering pump. New belts. New hoses. New heater relay. New rearview mirror. New radio/ CD player. New upper control arm bushings. New front brake pads. Repacked front bearings. Rebuilt calipers. Rebuilt master cylinder. New rear air shocks. New wiper blades. New flowmaster mufflers. The rear wheel cylinders, brake shoes, starter, alternator, dual exhaust were all recently replaced, therfore I did not replace those. On 5/15/2011 I paid $ 1,031.79 to have the air conditioning system flushed out, a new compressor, and receiver dryer installed, and set up for R134. I have new after market replacement quarter panels, used doors, used front fenders, used tail lights, and several boxes of used spare parts that will go with it. This is a very nice car. If you have a question though please ask. These are hard to find at all let alone in good condition. This does have the factory posi rear end and factory rear defogger. Any questions call Jim @ 260-710-4803 |

This 93-car Iowa auction is like a Big 3 classic muscle museum
Tue, Aug 27 2019Bill "Coyote" Johnson has been buying cars since high school and has amassed a collection totaling 113 vehicles, according to NBC 6 News. But time has changed his motivations and priorities, and he's decided to auction 93 of those cars, many of which are classic muscle from Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, Plymouth and Pontiac. The megasale will take place Sept. 14, 2019, in Red Oak, Iowa, at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. A 1969 Plymouth Road Runner infected Coyote with a love for Detroit muscle when he was just a teenager, and his desire quickly turned into an obsession. He's spent the past 40 years finding, buying and working on a variety of makes and models. Unlike some collectors, Coyote didn't discriminate against certain brands and has rides from each of the Big 3 automakers. Included in the auction are Camaros, Satellites, Super Bees, Chargers, Challengers, Barracudas, Coronets, GTOs, Mustangs, Cutlasses and others. Possibly the most intriguing aspect of the auction is that all of these cars will be sold as-is with no reserve. Many of them will need work, depending on quality standards, but this seems like a golden opportunity to find a classic car without leaving a bank account in shambles. The auctions are open for bidding online now, and the full auction will take place on September 14. Check out the full listings and bid at VanDerBrink Auctions.
Junkyard Gem: 2007 Saturn Sky
Sat, Jun 26 2021The Pontiac Division didn't have long to live when the Solstice first appeared in 2005 as a 2006 model, and Saturn's head was inching toward the chopping block at about the same rate. Still, optimism reigned — at least, it did until the global economy fell apart — and so Saturn Dealers got a rebadged version of the Solstice to sell: the Sky. Available for just the 2007 through 2010 model years, slightly more than 34,000 Skies rolled out of showrooms before the doors were nailed shut. Here's one of those rare cars, found in a Denver-area self-service yard a few weeks ago. I've found a handful of discarded Solstices in car graveyards during the past few years, mostly with crash damage. This Sky endured a medium-hard impact in the right front corner, which sent it to this place. The 177-horsepower, 2.4-liter Ecotec still resides under the battered hood. The Sky Redline version had a turbocharged engine rated at 260 horses; we can assume that such an engine would be yanked and purchased by the first junkyard shopper that realized what it was. The base transmission in the Sky was an Aisin five-speed manual, but this car has the optional five-speed automatic. The Sky had its own nose and some different badging, but otherwise didn't differ much from the Solstice. For the South Korean market, the Sky got Daewoo G2X badges and was advertised as the ideal vehicle for high-speed chases through Seoul traffic. The same car went to Europe as the Opel GT. Sadly, GM ran out of money to make right-hand-drive Skies, so we never got to witness Holden or Vauxhall versions. Here's Bob Lutz describing the new Sky. Lutz really hated car names molded into plastic bumper covers, so he takes great care here to describe the genuine glued-on emblems. Related Video:
Baseball team to dress like Trans Am, complete with screaming chicken
Fri, Feb 8 2019Come to think of it, the Screaming Chicken actually sounds like the name of a minor league baseball team. Well, it isn't, but the famous logo of the same name that graced the hood of the 1970s Pontiac Trans Am will at least be making it to a baseball uniform this summer. The Lansing Lugnuts, a Single-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, will be rocking these special uniforms to honor the late Burt Reynolds and his film Smokey and the Bandit. By default, it will also be honoring the car the movie made famous: the 1977 Trans Am painted black with gold trim and, of course, the screaming chicken on the hood. This is a pretty good history of the emblem. So why the Lugnuts and Burt Reynolds? Although he claimed to be born in Georgia for much of his career, he admitted in a 2015 autobiography that he was in fact born in Lansing, Mich. After a few years, his family settled in Florida. Not exactly hometown hero stuff, but minor league baseball promotions have been made of more tenuous connections. The Burt Reynolds tribute night will be July 20, and if you want to get a screaming chicken jersey for yourself (I mean, wouldn't they be perfect for a cars and coffee?), the game-used jerseys will be auctioned off for charity after the game.
