1999 Pontiac Firebird Formula 5.7 V8, 6 Speed, Runs Great! Looks Great! on 2040-cars
Baytown, Texas, United States
Hello! Don't let the miles fool you! This is an excellent car and does not drive anything like a 200K mile car! I see many Firebirds/trans ams that have really low miles and all that tells me is that they have not lived and brought much enjoyment to their drivers!! This car, even though it has 200K miles, is about 15 years old, so the miles average out to be just right. I am the 3rd owner, the first sold it around 100K, the second sold it at 200K. I have had it for over a year and have put around 7K. It was garaged it's whole life and looked amazing when I bought it. I do not have a garage fit for it, so my cats climb all over it, the trees pollinate on it, and the birds poop on it. I absolutely hate to see such a fine classic automobile getting trashed like that. So I am selling it. Also, my teenage daughter is fixing to start learning how to drive and she IS NOT learning on this car! This car runs strong! Sounds great! Good clutch, everything works! Cold AC, hot heater! No dents!! just a few scratches! front tires still showing good enough, but I recommend replacing rear tires soon. There are a few scratches where the idiot cats jumped on it and lost footing and scratched it up. They are all light scratches that can be buffed out, but I cannot spend that money just to have it get messed up right away. There is a crack in each door panel along the top of them. They are almost identical and no idea how they got there. Was like that when I bought it. There are no cracks on the dash, no tears in the seats. CD player works. I believe it is wired for a MP3 player or ipod or something. The previous owner was telling me about it but I am not into my music that much so I was not listening. The Formula has the 305 horsepower 5.7 350 V8 derived from the corvette!! It runs strong and sounds good. There are no modifications done to this car. All stock! There was one upgrade that the previous owner did and that was upgrade the cat converter to the 2001/2002 type that is supposed to be better. I took his word for it since he sounded like he knew what he was talking about. It just recently developed a power steering fluid leak. The power steering pump does not whine so I am assuming it is not the pump itself that is bad. However, I have not had it looked at professionally since it just started. One of the pulleys make a squeaky sound but not too loud. The service engine soon light recently came on and I had Auto Zone plug it up and it suggested an air pump electrical circuit fault, or blocked air system, or failed air pump. The amount of pollen that our trees are pouring out recently may have something to do with this. I decided to sell it and hopefully the new owner will be better able to keep this fine car up to the high standards that it deserves. This car is listed on local craigslist and will be available locally unless a bid is placed. Once a bid is placed here on eBay, I will not sell it locally outright, the sale will only be thru eBay at that point. So if you want this car, please bid early! I will answer all questions as soon as I can. I am not always near my email, but I will check it as often as I can. I will assist your shipping company as best as possible. I suggest USHIP.COM. please pay within 3 days of end of auction. Thank you! |

Junkyard Gem: 1992 Pontiac Sunbird convertible, with extremely rad W25 Appearance Package
Sun, Dec 22 2019Radwood has sparked a revival in the appreciation of goofy 1980s and 1980s automotive fashions, from neon-colored tape stripes to excessive TURBO badging to ads featuring horrifying Nagel-style women with radio faceplates instead of eyes. I see a lot of discarded cars that would have been ideal to bring to Radwood, and today's Junkyard Gem is even radder than, say, a purple Mercury Tracer Trio or a teal Chevy Beretta GT or even the elusive Dodge Daytona IROC R/T (yes, there were IROC Daytonas): a genuine Pontiac Sunbird SE convertible with the W25 Appearance Package and Bright White Star wheels. The W25 package got you a white Sunbird with kicky script badging, white wheels, and — if you opted for the optional 3.1-liter V6 — these candy-cane-influenced red-and-white displacement badges on the fenders. Now this is rad! The white interior got dirty fast, especially if the owner left the convertible top down, and these wheels were tough to keep clean for more than a few hours. This one appears to have spent many years sitting abandoned with the top down, judging by the completely trashed interior. The base engine for 1992 was the good old Cavalier four-banger, complete with 111 horsepower. This 3.1-liter engine made a respectable-for-1992 140 horses, for plenty of torque-steery, tire-squealy fun. As a J-Body car, the Sunbird was a sibling to the Chevrolet Cavalier in 1992 (the J-based Cadillac Cimarron, Oldsmobile Firenza, and Buick Skyhawk departed before the end of the 1980s). Starting in 1994, the Pontiac Sunfire replaced the Sunbird, continuing in production all the way through the demise of the J platform in 2005. This content is hosted by a third party. Junkyard Gem: 1989 Pontiac 6000 STE AWD
Sun, Aug 1 2021During the middle to late 1980s, General Motors made a big push to grab back some of the sales swiped by makers of European luxury machinery during the previous decade. Around the top of the prestige pyramid, there was the Turin/Hamtramck-built Cadillac Allante taking aim at the Mercedes-Benz 560SEC and the super high-tech Buick Reatta trying to seduce away BMW and Jaguar shoppers; even the Riviera offered a futuristic touchscreen computer sorely lacking in anything out of Stuttgart or Bavaria. The General had a plan to take on the smaller German sporty sedans, too, and Pontiac of the "We Build Excitement" era offered a midsize sedan packed with modern hardware at a great price: the 6000 STE. Here's one of the rarest 6000 STEs of them all, an all-wheel-drive-equipped '89 found in a Denver-area yard last week. Any 6000 STE is extremely hard to find today; when I wrote about a front-wheel-drive 1987 6000 STE back in 2018, desperate owners of these cars filled my inbox with requests — sometimes demands — for parts that continue to this day. Many of them pleaded with me to help them find an all-wheel-drive version, and now I have managed to find one at Colorado Auto & Parts in Englewood, just south of Denver (in fact, the same yard at which I shot the '87). You may recall CAP as the old-school yard whose owners built the amazing airplane-engined 1939 Plymouth pickup a few years back. The all-wheel-drive system on the 6000 STE was introduced for the 1988 model year, and it became standard equipment on the 1989 STE. At this time, the automotive industry had taken note of the success of the idiot-proof all-wheel-drive systems offered by AMC and Audi/Volkswagen; Toyota began selling Americans all-wheel-drive Camrys, Celicas, and Corollas, while Ford offered the Tempo and Topaz with optional AWD and Subaru was just beginning to make the switch from manually-selected four-wheel-drive to genuine all-wheel-drive around that time (it took a few more years for everyone to standardize on the 4WD/AWD terminology we use today, though). The 6000 STE AWD was intended to compete with such all-wheel-drive-equipped sedans as the Audi 80 ($23,610), Audi 90 ($28,840), and BMW 325iX ($30,750); its $22,599 price tag (about $50,700 in 2021 dollars) certainly made it seem like a bargain compared to those cars. In addition to the all-wheel-drive system, 1989 6000 STE owners got a digital instrument panel and more switches and buttons than the Space Shuttle.
General Motors Recalls Nearly 780,000 Cars To Fix Deadly Problem
Thu, Feb 13 2014General Motors is recalling nearly 780,000 compact cars in North America because the engines can shut down unexpectedly and cause crashes. The company says six people have been killed in crashes related to the problem. The recall affects Chevrolet Cobalts and Pontiac G5s from the 2005 through 2007 model years. U.S. safety regulators say the weight of the key ring and rough roads can move the ignition switch out of the run position, cutting the engine and electricity. If that happens, air bags may not work. GM says there have been 22 crashes from the problem. All happened at high speeds. Dealers will replace the ignition switch for free. GM says owners should remove nonessential items from key rings until the problem is fixed.
