1992 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Convertible 2-door 5.0l on 2040-cars
Spring, Texas, United States
For sale is a 1992 Trans Am Convertible that had an engine fire. This was a show car until a fuel regulator blew out in 2009. The regulator had been replaced 4 years earlier. I still believe the ethanol in the gas was the problem, but I cannot prove that. The fire was put out, but everything in the engine compartment had been burned up and the damage has been removed. There is probably some damage in the dash also, but these parts are available. I had planned on repairing the car, and have a donor car to provide the parts, but health issues got in the way. I acquired another car that is basically the same. I would like to see the car restored and they only made 663 of these cars:
http://www.thirdgen.org/1992-pontiac-firebird?s=3ba6e130aab0f202188c7b24a947bd55& I have two of them. This car had just undergone a complete paint job with bodywork and was like new. It caught fire on the way to a show. The body is fine. The hood is gone and will need another one. The black hood in the picture does not go with the car. I pulled the engine/trans out. You can have these although the engine is not assembled. You might want to keep the block. It will need a new rotating assembly, or put in an LS engine, like one of the 5.3L engines that are plentiful. I have the front bumper and nose. There are some great parts on this car. It has the gold wheels and all the plastic parts. The car originally had the special leather seats and performance options. I ended up putting in later model seats. The engine was a 5.0 TPI engine. You can have the parts for that also. When the fire was put out, the fire hose doused the inside of the car under the dash to make sure it was out. Even though it may look bad, this is not a rust bucket, it has a nice body, and it is a very rare car. Whoever purchases the car will have to arrange pickup. If I do not sell the car by May 17, 2014, I will part the car out and use the parts for my other cars. The tail lights alone are worth $600. Just to show you, the car was an Autorama winner: http://cars.ontimesupport.com/autorama-houston-2006/92TA-GIRLS2.JPG http://cars.ontimesupport.com/autorama-houston-2006/DOUG-92TA-1.JPG I will be happy to answer any questions and I have a lot of knowledge about these cars. I also have all the records on this one. |

Trans Am Depot teases 2014 GTO
Mon, 24 Jun 2013Here comes the Judge. Court is in session. The verdict is in. How many more tired clichés can we come up with? It hardly seems to matter, because it's happening: Trans Am Depot has announced via the teaser video below that it is launching a 2014 GTO, complete with Carousel Red (bright orange, really) paint and full Judge badging.
The car is based on Trans Am Depot's 6T9 Goat, which, in case you don't get the reverential references, is meant to mimic the look of the 1969 Pontiac GTO. As with the company's other cars -including the 2013 Hurst Edition Trans Am we recently drove - the GTO will be based on the current Chevy Camaro, which means two doors, V8 engines and rear-wheel drive, just like the muscle cars of days past.
As for actual details of what's under the 2014 GTO's hood, we're completely left hanging. We'd expect some sort of power adder (turbo, supercharger or possibly some other form of a highly massaged version of the Camaro's V8), and we certainly know that GM has any number of hi-po crate engines to choose from.
Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you
Thu, 21 Feb 2013As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.
Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.
Junkyard Gem: 2001 Pontiac Aztek
Tue, Jul 11 2017Ah, the Pontiac Aztek. Everyone laughs at the Aztek ... except, apparently, for Coloradans who like to go camping, bike riding, hiking, and all that outdoorsy stuff that folks do in the Centennial State. You'll see Azteks being driven, unironically and without shame, all over the place in the Denver region, and now plenty of them are showing up in the local wrecking yards. Here's a first-year-of-production example in its final campground. These minivans or crossovers (or however the experts finally decided to categorize them) had built-in air compressors, audio controls in the rear cargo area, and other features meant to enhance tailgating, camping, and other activities deemed central to Generation X's allegedly active lifestyle. You could even get an optional camping kit with a tent that attached to the rear of the Aztek. So, it was a General Motors minivan-like vehicle, cousin of the weird-looking Dustbusters of the 1990s, with lots of useful features for those who did more than just commute to work and drop off kids at school. Unfortunately for GM, the Aztek was staggeringly ugly, and Generation Xers were too damned broke to buy new cars in 2001, anyway. I see plenty of them in Denver-area wrecking yards now, along with their slightly-less-offensive-looking Buick Rendezvous siblings, and so I decided to document one before they're all gone.
