Up for auction is my beautiful just finished a 3 year frame off restoration 1971 Pontiac Firebird Formula 400 4 speed. This car was completely stripped down to the bare metal and rebuilt from the ground up. Everything is new or refinished original parts. It still has its numbers matching 400 motor which has been totally rebuilt with everything new and the Muncie 4 speed has also been rebuilt and is all new. This car is a non a/c car with standard interior and no options at all except power steering, brakes and a trunk light. I hate to sell her but I have found another project car to start on so need to sell this car to get the funds to build the next one. The title is clear and in my name. This car is 100% rust free, all rust has been cut out and replaced with new sheet metal, no bondo or fiberglass repair jobs.
The body was stripped down to bare metal and all rust cut out and replaced with all new metal. She is painted in base coat clear coat and the beautiful Lucerne Blue paint shines like a diamond! Gets attention everywhere she goes. The interior is flawless with all new carpet, upper door panels, headliner, package tray and seat upholstry. This is her original dash just refinished but the radio area was cut out so I went ahead and installed an in dash CD/MP3 player with Sirius Satellite radio. The console came from a power window car so I installed an ash tray to fill in the power switch hole. All plastic panels are solid and in great shape, original black panels just refinished. The seat belts are her original belts just cleaned up. I liked the engine turned T/A dash bezel better than the wood grain so I installed that and she did not come with the rally gauges or a tach. So I installed those also and they all work. She has a Trans Am dash harness.
Now to the drive train. She has her original 400 YS code engine that has been totally rebuilt and bored 30 over with a Comp Cam XE268H cam. She has #13 heads from a 1970 GTO that have been rebuilt and flow great. Original Ram Air intake manifold with numbers matching carb that has also been rebuilt. She has RA3 exhaust manifolds and a Ram Air functional air cleaner and hood. The transmission is a rebuilt Muncie M20 and shifts great with a Hurst shifter. All new clutch and flywheel. The rear end is a 3:42 posi and has also been rebuilt. The exhaust is 2 1/2" exhaust with Flowmaster Super 44 mufflers and original style exhaust tips. Has a beautiful mean sound to her and a great idle. Sounds beautiful going through the gears. The suspension has been rebuilt and upgraded with lowering springs for the front to give her the stance she has and a WS6 front sway bar has been added along with a WS6 power steering box. The rear suspension has WS6 leaf springs and a WS6 rear sway bar. Yes this car was equipped with the factory rear sway bar but I upgraded it to a WS6 bar. The brakes are all new from front to rear with everything being new, all the fuel and brake lines are brand new. The wheels are 15x7 Rally II's and have been bead blasted and power coated with new center caps. The tires are brand new also. I literally just finished this resto a month ago and I bet she doesnt have 100 miles on her since the completion of the resto. Was going to keep her but something else caught my attention. So this car needs to go so I can fund that restoration. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email me or call me anytime at 318-348-4626, my name is Joe. The car is located in West Monroe, LA and the title is clear and in my name. Buyer is responsible for shipping or pick up and delivery. I will however meet the shipper at the local truck stop for pick up if need be. I require a $500.00 nonrefundable deposit within 24 hours of the end of auction with the remaining balance due within 10 days of the end of auction. The title and car will not be released until total payment has been received and good. The car is for sale locally aswell so I reserve the right to end the auction at anytime if sold locally. Please do not bid if you do not have the funds or cant get the funds to pay for the car. Also if you have no feedback please email me before bidding. Thank You and happy bidding.

The last Pontiac Fiero sold for $90,000 at auction

Thu, Dec 3 2020

On August 16, 1988 the last Pontiac Fiero, a red GT model, rolled off the assembly line at GM's Pontiac Assembly plant located in Pontiac, Michigan. It wasn't just the final Fiero, but the final car to be built at that site. The car was raffled off to one of 1,400 plant employees that would soon have to find jobs elsewhere. Whoever that employee was, they remained faithful to the Fiero and kept it in mint condition for 32 years. Last month, it was finally time to move on. It crossed the block at GAA Auctions in Greensboro, North Carolina where it sold for an astounding $90,000. According to the auction house, that's a new world record. The price no doubt reflected the car's place in history as the last example of GM's 1980s mid-engined sports car. However, it was also showroom-new, with just 582 miles clocked on its 2.8-liter V6. 1988 models were also fitted with an upgraded, Lotus-esque suspension produced for just that one year. In addition, this car, serial number 226402, came with its original build sheet, photos from the assembly line, and a collection of news articles and books. It still wore its pre-delivery plastic on the interior and was fully loaded with automatic transmission. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. You can see the action starting at the 2:50:13 mark in the video above. The Fiero was symbolic of the 1980s and stood out from the standard GM passenger car fare for its mid-engine layout and plastic body panels. In an era when GM often rebadged cars with minimal differences, the Fiero rode on its own unique chassis. It was positioned as one of the defining products for Pontiac, GM's "excitement" brand, but actual performance never quite lived up to its striking looks.  Nevertheless, it garnered a cult following. It's often the basis for (questionable) custom builds mimicking more exotic models like Ferraris and Lamborghinis, thanks to a steel space-frame design that allows body panels to be easily removed. Thankfully, this significant example escaped such a fate and will live on as a reminder of an interesting chapter of automotive history.

GM recalling 1.4 million older vehicles for oil leak fire risk

Tue, Oct 27 2015

General Motors is recalling 1,411,332 older vehicles with its 3.8-liter V6 yet again due to a fire risk. Specifically, there are 1,283,340 of them in the US, and the affected models are the: 1997-2004 Pontiac Grand Prix 2000-2004 Chevrolet Impala 1998-1999 Chevrolet Lumina 1998-2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo 1998-1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue 1997- 2004 Buick Regal The fault with these vehicles is that oil can drip onto the hot exhaust manifold during hard braking, which can potentially cause of fire. In the last six years, there have 19 reported minor injuries from this problem but no crashes or fatalities, according to the company. Spokesperson Alan Adler also told Autoblog: "GM has reports of 1,345 fires in vehicles that were repaired under two previous recalls for this issue." At this time, GM is still developing a remedy for the problem. According to Adler, the company advised owners to park these vehicles outside for the previous recalls. "The cars can be safely driven. In cases where a customer reported an engine fire while driving, smoke was reported, which would be an indication of a malfunction," he said. This is GM's fourth recall for this problem since 2008, according to The Detroit News. At one point it was believed that aging valve cover gaskets allowed the oil to leak out and drip onto the manifold. A campaign in 2009 covered nearly 1.5 million of these models through the 2003 model year for the same issue. At the time, dealers installed new spark plug wire retainers as a fix. Related Video: GM Statement: General Motors is recalling 1,283,340 older sedans and coupes in the U.S. from the 1997 to 2004 model years because drops of oil may be deposited on the hot exhaust manifold through hard braking, which can cause engine compartment fires. GM is working on a remedy. The company is aware of post-repair fires in some vehicles but no crashes or fatalities. There have been 19 reported minor injuries over the last six years. These vehicles with 3.8-liter V6 3800 engines are affected: 1997-2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, 2000-2004 Chevrolet Impala, 1998-1999 Chevrolet Lumina and 1998-2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, 1998-1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue and 1997-2004 Buick Regal. Including Canada, Mexico and exports, the total population is 1,411,332.

GM reintroduces Tripower name in the worst way possible

Wed, Aug 1 2018

The story of General Motors' use of the Tripower moniker begins way back in 1957, when Semon E. "Bunkie" Knudsen, then General Manager of GM's Pontiac division, directed his engineers to inject more performance into his brand's line of V8-powered automobiles. Fuel injection was an option, but hot rodders flocked instead to Tri-Power (marketed way back when with a hyphen), which grafted a trio of two-barrel Rochester carburetors onto a single intake manifold. A legend was born. And that legend was born of performance. At idle and when full power wasn't required, Pontiac's Tri-Power system used just the middle carburetor, which helped make the setup easier to tune. Depending on the year and model, either a vacuum system or a mechanical linkage opened up the two outer carbs, thereby switching from two barrels to six, and allowing the engine to take in more fuel and air. And it was an easy marketing win – six barrels is better than four barrels, right? Because performance! So, when news filtered in that GM has resurrected the Tripower name, those of us who grew up attending classic car shows and wrenching on old Pontiacs did a double-take. And then we all collectively sighed. Turns out that today's Tripower refers to a trio of fuel-saving measures that include cylinder deactivation, active thermal management, and intake valve lift control, according to Automotive News. And, at least for now, it applies to GM's line of fullsize trucks powered by a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. We're all for saving fuel whenever possible. And we have zero say in how any automaker chooses to market its products and technologies. But, we'll offer our two cents anyway: Relaunching a storied name from the past is fine. Relaunching a storied name from the past while completely overlooking the reasons the name got famous in the first place is only going to irritate the people who remember the name in the first place. Couldn't they just call this new technology package something else?
