1970 Pontiac Firebird Esprit 400ci 350hp Turbo 350 Automatic on 2040-cars
Salem, Oregon, United States
This is a 1970 Pontiac Firebird Esprit model. The car is primer gray color. It was an original Pontiac 350 engine and turbo 350 automatic transmission car. The engine and transmission have been upgraded to a re-built Pontiac 400 engine with a Turbo 350 transmission. The car has a nice metal 1976 1 year only dual snorkel scoop hood. It has Pontiac rally II 14” wheels. The body on this car is straight. It has all the chrome on it. The car has black interior in good shape. The car has a clear Oregon title in my name, with no brands. The car is primered and looks good as a daily driver, but would require some body prep work to be ready for show quality paint. This car runs and drives well and has lots of power.
The car has good glass, no cracks. Front windshield is brand new. This car runs very well and is dependable. It has no leaks of any kind, no brake, coolant, oil, transmission or engine, or power steering leaks. All the lights (headlights, tail lights, dome light, side lights, turn lights, brake lights, dash lights) work well, except the reverse lights which do not work because linkage is not hooked up. The front shocks are new KYB shocks. The rear shocks are older air adjustable shocks. The car has power brakes and power steering. It has the Pontiac 14x6” rally II wheels with trim rings and Pontiac arrow wheel caps. Has Radial 205 70 R14 with lots of tread on the back and 195 70 14 radial tires with lot of tread on the front. The brakes work well, even the E-brake. The brake pads and shoes are in good shape, new master cylinder and new rear wheel cylinders. Rear end runs quiet and smooth, no clunking or howling. It is 2.73 gear ratio and is an open dif. The engine is a great running 1970 Pontiac XH code 400 4 barrel engine out of a 1970 Grand Prix factory 350 horse power. The engine has 1969 #46 heads. That have had the valves 3 angle ground and the heads have been resurfaced. Engine has good oil pressure, 55psi. Engine stays cool and does not over-heat, new American eagle full aluminum radiator. The engine is standard bore has, new rings, new clevitte 77 bearings, melling oil pump, new mild performance cam shaft and lifters, new edelbrock performer link timing chain, High Energy Ignition distributor, 800cfm Quadra jet 4 barrel carburetor, stock cast iron Pontiac q-jet intake manifold, exhaust headers with dual exhaust, chrome 14” air cleaner, all new gaskets and seals in engine, new 8mm spark plug wires, and bosch spark plugs. Engine has less than 1000 miles on it since this work was done. Engine is 10.5 compression ratio and will require minimum of 92 octane fuel or better or added octane booster. The engine has 180-190psi compression on all cylinders. The transmission is a turbo 350 with a stage 2 shift kit and a stock torque converter. Transmission shifts well, no slipping. The car comes with a 5th rally II wheel and tire for a spare. Also comes with a working jack and lug wrench. The car sounds really nice, engine starts easy and runs well and has lots of power. The interior is black and looks good. The front seats have covers on them because they are worn and will need to be re-upholstered. Seats were originally white, the back seats have been dyed black. The carpet is new and is the period correct loop carpet. The car has an aftermarket sun roof installed in it. The car is missing the headliner. The door panels are in nice shape. The dash is good but does have a couple cracked spots on the top of it. The car has a working 160mph speedometer which is off about 12 miles an hour at 60mph. The oil pressure and water temperature are hooked up to after market gauges. Car has a radio but it is not hooked up, just in for cosmetics. It has a very nice wood grain dash bezel. It has a nice black formula steering wheel. This car is a factory air conditioning car. The air conditioning compressor has been removed years ago, some of the ac duct work is missing under the dash. The heater works on high speed only, the heater does not switch well from defrost to heater. The horn does not work. The windshield wipers work well on both speeds and are the hideaway style wipers. The floor pans did have a little rust in the back seat area, 2 small patch pieces have been welded in the back seat area and 1 small piece under the driver’s side seat to repair the rusted area. The rear quarters have a small bit of rust in the bottom of both quarter panels (just behind the rear tire) the passenger’s side has had a small patch panel welded in to repair the rust. Both quarter panels have some bondo in the very bottom area. The rear valance does have some rust in it and some bondo spots. The car is not rusted around the tail lights. The back window area is not rusted out. The roof of the car is rusted some on the inside, from the sun roof being left open or leaking, some rust repair around the front windshield area. Bottoms of the doors and rocker panels are not rusty. There is some rust just below the battery on core support. The trunk lid is not rusted. One half of the lower trunk pan area has had a patch panel welded in to repair the rusted out area, there is some pitting on the other half trunk pan but not rusted out. . There is a small spot of bondo on the bottom of the front fenders near the door area. Other than that the body on this car is nice and straight. I don’t see any dented areas. This car runs good just needs some work in a few areas. Buyer must pay for car within 7 days of end of auction and pick-up car within 10 days of end of auction. Lutz says GM was working on 5th-gen Pontiac GTO
Thu, 08 Aug 2013Bob Lutz was one of the forces behind bringing the Holden Monaro to the United States, as the ill-fated Pontiac GTO in 2004. And while that car received critical acclaim, it was a sales disappointment. Now, Road & Track is reporting that our suspicions were correct - Pontiac was working on a two-door, G8-based coupe before it was shuttered.
In that R&T article, which is no longer available online, Lutz explained that the new GTO would solve many of the issues found in the original. Car Advice speculates that the new model would have look like a rebadged version of the Holden Coupe 60 Concept from 2008, a conclusion we also came to.
That car would have been a big departure from the 2004 to 2006 GTO. It has an extremely long hood and short rear deck, with an almost fastback roofline and a wide greenhouse with a tall beltline. The wheel arches were very pronounced, and the chin and rocker panel splitters gave it a race-ready look. Would it have been enough to make the GTO work in the US? We think it might of, but it looks like we'll never know.
Celebrate the summer solstice by building the Pontiac Solstice shooting brake GM never did
Fri, Jun 21 2019Happy summer solstice, everyone! To celebrate, we have a particularly unusual eBay find connected to the Pontiac Solstice sports car. A seller has leftover inventory of fiberglass hardtops designed to turn the Pontiac Solstice roadster into a shooting brake. The seller says they came from a since-closed Indiana company, and they're clearly inspired by another aftermarket part and even a GM concept that never saw the light of day. We'll start from the beginning: the stillborn Chevy Nomad concept. It was a concept that came out about the same time as the original Solstice concept, and it was clearly based on the same platform, featuring a small two-door body and a long nose. It also had unashamedly retro Nomad wagon design cues and cues from the original Corvette. The car never saw production, but clearly people were interested in having a wagon-like sports car. That brings us to the next bit of history with an aftermarket hardtop developed by German company EDAG. We saw a prototype in person, and the overall shape seemed to fit the car — and the wraparound window design certainly seemed Nomadic. Besides the unique look, the hardtop and its functional hatch made the Solstice roadster's miniscule cargo space far more usable. It doesn't appear many of the tops were sold, though. These tops on eBay look very similar to the EDAG tops, though it's not clear if they're a direct replica or something similar. Being that the parts are leftover inventory, the seller notes that some of the tops may be missing pieces for installation, so only those who are handy with bodywork and fasteners, or who are able to lean on someone who is, need apply. Even with some extra work, if you really want a Solstice shooting brake, this is likely easier and cheaper than commissioning a shop to custom-build a roof for your. If you're interested, check out the link. They're $499.99 apiece, and the seller will also provide a set of seals and gaskets for the top for an extra $125.
Porsche Sports Car Together Fest is a labor of many Porsche loves
Sat, Sep 17 2022Over Labor Day Weekend, Porsche held its second annual Sports Car Together Fest (SCTF) at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. We happened to be nearby, so we swung by to check out an event we’d never heard of until a few weeks before. Reading about it on Porsche's U.S. web site made us think it would be something like Rennsport Reunion for the Midwest. Turns out SCTF is just as much of a different kind of fun. The fest Tom MooreÂ’s the man behind Dark Horse Motorsports, the motorsport consultant for Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) PR. "People love Rennsport Reunion, but thatÂ’s every three to four years," he explained. “We wanted to gather people on those off years, and we didn't want to just do a mini Rennsport, because thatÂ’s its own thing. WeÂ’ve maintained the motorsport history at Rennsport. Here [at SCTF], we're doing the current look at what Porsche racing is for." In this case, that means gathering what Moore called "our Porsche motorsport pyramid." ThatÂ’s the range of enthusiast drivers from novice to hotshoes trying to get to top-tier endurance racing, "[starting] with the progression from Porsche Club of America track days up to the top of the ladder of one-make racing in North America," the Carrera Cup North America, a series made up of nothing but the latest 500-horsepower 911 GT3 Cup cars. The three days of racing action allowed almost any kind of Porsche owner interested in clipping apexes to compete around an Indianapolis Motor Speedway layout tweaked with an infield section. This year, that included ex-NASCAR star Jeff Gordon, coming out of retirement to reunite with his longtime NASCAR crew chief Ray Evernham for the top-class Cup races. Evernham told us Gordon hasnÂ’t raced in five years and he hasnÂ’t been a crew chief in 22. On very short practice, Gordon finished in 14th in the Pro Class in the first Carrera Cup race of the weekend driving the #24 Hendrick Performance Group Porsche, and 11th in the second race. Afterward, he said, "I made a pass on the white flag lap. That made my whole weekend Â… I must say that yesterday, I thought ‘man, I am getting beat out hereÂ’ and I donÂ’t like that. If I am going to be in an environment like this, I want to be competitive. But today turned the corner for me. So, I hope I get to do another one day." When we strolled the paddock after the event, exposed sheet metal proved "Rubbing is racing" is a thing in the Carrera Cup as well as NASCAR.
