THIS IS THE CLASSIC CONVERTIBLE YOU HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR!!

If you have been watching for a classic Pontiac Catalina to come along, and passed on others thinking something better would come along, you chose wisely.  If you are in the market for a classic Pontiac Catalina, look no further than this beauty.  Even better this classic is a CONVERTIBLE!  Think it can't get any better....... how about only 30, 429 documented  miles on this beauty.  You may never have another chance to purchase a classic Pontiac Catalina Convertible in this condition again!  Keep reading - it get better still!

This car is a looker with the convertible top down or up.... simply stunning.  The official color is Castillion Bronze.  The car has been kept in a garage since it received a fantastic paint job eight years ago, restoring its shine and keeping true to the original color.  It is very clear when you see the car that extra special care has been taken to keep this classic in amazing condition.  This classic will get you plenty of looks and the attention of everyone around town, at work, in your neighborhood, etc.  Even better, you can turn back the clocks and feel like it's the early 1970's all over again, cruising around in the Catalina with the top down.  One lucky buyer will find out, the pictures of this car, don't even do the car justice!

This classic is about 99% original.  The car has been a weekend driver for the majority of its life and that helps to explain its amazing original condition and the mileage.  The car has been entirely owned in North Carolina until eight years ago, when it was purchased by one owner in Maryland.  This Pontiac Catalina Convertible is powered by an original 350 cubic inch engine with 2 barrel carburetor and dual exhaust.  Special options on this care include turbo hydra matic transmission, Rally II Wheels, power steering and air conditioning.  The car is  believed to have matching numbers throughout.  There are no known leaks to report.  The car is currently sitting in a private garage and has just had minor repairs to bring it up to peak running condition.  The engine compartment and undercarriage are very clan, but not professionally detailed.  The title is clear and ready to be transferred to a new owner.

The buyer will also be getting some very nice original documentation!  Included is the sales letter to the original owner from Pontiac congratulating him on his purchase dated May 7, 1971.  Plenty of inspection reports available as well to document the mileage as being accurate as reported.

                                                                                                           EXTERIOR/INTERIOR

As you can tell from the photos, the exterior and interior are exceptional for a 1971 model car.  The paint look great and there is no known bondo on the car.  The Catalina has original Rally II wheels and Uniroyal Tiger Paw M&S P235/7OR 15 tires with only approximately 5,000 miles on them.  The glass, seals, and trim are all original and look to be in fine condition.  The horn, wipers turn signals, lights and locks all work.  The Catalina Convertible had a new soft top and the electric motor replaced before it left North Carolina eight years ago.  It has the original AM/FM stereo with 8 track cassette player (it was working the last time the former owner tried it).  The interior is excellent, the vinyl seats are extremely comfortable and both the front and back seat look like they have hardly had a passenger sitting in them.  One modern addition to the Catalina that works well if you can't find your stash of 8 track cassettes, is the installation of a Pioner CD player mounted under the dash.  This Pioner CD player is believed to be XM satellite capable as well.

                                                                                                               VEHICLE CONDITION:

Not much to say about the vehicle other than check out the pictures and only 30,429 miles!  The paint job on this car is terrific and has just been waxed and detailed inside and out and restores the beauty of this car like the Fountain of Youth.  No rust issues were observed upon inspection by the shop that just completed the minor repairs on the car.  The dash looks great.  The cosmetic and electrical components of the convertible top have been replaced.  What can we say...... This is the nicest classic Catalina we've ever seen and whoever buys this car will be smiling from ear to ear every time they walk into the garage!

Fiero-based Zimmer Quicksilver was objectively terrible, but we'd totally drive it

Wed, Jan 19 2022

Now here's something you don't see everyday. It's listed in our classified ads as a 1986 Pontiac Fiero, but as you can see, that description is a bit misleading. In fact, it's a Zimmer Quicksilver, which was indeed built atop the guts of a mid-engine Fiero coupe but was heavily modified by the Zimmer Motorcars Corporation at a facility in Pompano Beach, Florida. And the one you see here actually seems to be a pretty decent deal for a highly unusual car. We're not sure what was a more popular starting point for kit and custom cars in the 1980s and 1990s, but it would have to be either the Fiero or the vintage air-cooled Volkswagen Beetle. Fiero-based machines usually mimicked the design direction of any number of highly desirable Italian stallions, most commonly, we'd guess, the Lamborghini Countach. The Quicksilver is an altogether different animal, with over a foot of extra wheelbase added in front of the A-pillar to make for a dramatic, long and low silhouette that somehow still only has barely enough room for two passengers in its leather- and wood-lined interior. A stock 2.8-liter V6 engine from General Motors is mated to a three-speed automatic transmission that sends 140 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels. Period road tests found the 0-60 run took a little over 10 seconds, which is terrible today but wasn't all that bad for the mid '80s. Best we can tell, only around 170 Quicksilvers were made between 1984 and 1988, which are, not coincidentally, the same years that Pontiac produced the Fiero. The 1986 Zimmer Quicksilver you see here is priced at $18,495 and shows well under 30,000 miles on the odometer. There aren't a lot of Zimmer Quicksilvers currently for sale for us to compare, but the ones we did find that had sold within the last few years suggest a little under $20,000 is a reasonable asking price. It could be a fun and offbeat addition to the garage, and if nothing else, you're not likely to see another one at your local car show. Related video: This content is hosted by a third party. GM repairing 40,500 Pontiac Vibes as part of Toyota airbag recall

Wed, 09 Apr 2014

General Motors has confirmed to Autoblog that the Pontiac Vibe is included in Toyota's just-announced recall action. The Vibe and the Toyota Matrix share a large number of parts, including the affected cable to the airbag.
"About 40,500 Pontiac Vibes from the 2009-2010 model years are included in the Toyota recall. Toyota designed and engineered the Vibe for Pontiac. GM will service customers with these vehicles when Toyota makes the parts available," said GM recall spokesperson Alan Adler to Autoblog in an email.
The recall covers 1.3 million Toyota units in the US, including 2009-2010 Corolla, Matrix and Tacoma, the 2008-2010 Highlander, the 2006-2008 Rav4 and 2006-2010 Yaris, plus the addition of the 2009-2010 Vibe. The models all have their airbag module attached via a spiral electrical cable. The connections on this cable can be damaged when turning the steering wheel. Once broken, the airbag deactivates and the airbag warning light comes on. Toyota has an improved part, but it's still making preparations to begin repairs. It will begin notifying owners soon.

Detroit City Council vetoes Autorama stunt, objects to Confederate flag

Wed, Feb 20 2019

Detroit's Autorama hot rod show will stage its 67th annual event next month, and wants to kick off with Burt Reynolds tribute. The plan is to re-create the Mulberry Bridge jump from " Smokey and the Bandit" using a movie-correct 1977 Pontiac Trans Am. But the Detroit City Council voted 7-1 to prohibit the jump. Why? Because the Trans Am's front license plate holder displays the former Georgia state flag, a portion of which is the Confederate national flag, and the city council doesn't like that. In the movie, Bo "Bandit" Darville was a Georgia driving legend, and the flag on the car was Georgia's flag at the time. Councilman Scott Benson laid out the council's position when he said that the car "still proudly flies a Confederate flag, which is a symbol of oppression, slavery, as well as home-bred American terrorism. So this body said we are not going to support that type of symbolism nor the audacity to support that type of activity in the city of Detroit." It seems part of the council's ire comes from the same event two years ago. A stunt group called the Northeast Ohio Dukes re-created a "Dukes of Hazzard" jump in 2017 using a series-correct 1969 Dodge Charger, complete with a Confederate flag on the roof. Benson said the stunt group "expressly said they would not display that [Confederate flag] symbol during the jump." Not only was it displayed, but when driver Raymond Kohn gave interviews after the jump, his driving suit featured the Stainless Banner on the collar. Seems the council has been grinding its axe in silence for two years. Now Benson accuses Autorama of "a history of supporting images and symbols of racism, oppression, and white supremacy." Autorama is certain to take place March 1-3 at Cobo Center. This year's show will have around 800 cars on display, along with a special exhibit of 17 low riders and a Batmobile built by Flint native Carl Casper. Even if the Bandit car doesn't make the jump, the Trans Am and other memorabilia from the film will be there. A spokeswoman for Autorama said, "We are continuing to work to try to resolve this with the city."
