Up for sale is a really amazing ORIGINAL UNRESTORED "SURVIVOR" CAR!  This is a 1969 Pontiac Catalina 2dr hardtop sport coupe!  It was one owner until I purchased it.  Actually, even though I have had it in my collection, I still have the original owner title, along with the notary forms that allow me to transfer the car from me to you.  So actually, whoever ends up buying this beauty and registering it will technically be the second owner of this Catalina!  How often does that happen on a 45 year old car?  Car has always been garaged, and is in amazing unrestored original condition!  It has 85% of its original light green paint that still holds a great shine!  The original chrome and bright work are still excellent!  Engine compartment is all original, as is interior.  Trunk is also original unrestored, except that there is a reproduction trunk mat.  Original mat is still there, and intact, but is a bit worn, so they put the repro on top of it for show purposes.

The original owners purchased this car to tow their camper trailer and boat trailer.  Catalina is equipped as follows:

1.  400 Cubic Inch Pontiac V8, 2bbl, runs well on today's fuels, but still has gobs of power and torque!

2.  Turbo 400 Automatic Transmission  (smooth and bullet-proof if you know these units)

3.  Power Steering & Power Brakes

4.  Cordova Vinyl Top

5.  AM Radio

6.  Deluxe Interior with Comfort Weave cloth seat inserts

7.  Optional factory Fender Skirts (NOT repros, but have been with car since new).  I like the non-skirt look, but they are included for those who like them.  They fit great!

8.  Heavy Duty Cooling and Heavy Duty Tow Package.  The tow package was installed when the car was new at the dealership.  It features transmission cooler, trailer brakes, air shocks, and HD tow hitch.  I have all the original factory and dealership brochures and receipts for this.

9.;  Original green "arrowhead" Pontiac accessory floor mats still in nice shape.  These alone are worth a small fortune to a GTO or Firebird guy as they are not reproduced in green!

This Wide Track also has a couple very neat nostalgic Period Correct add on aftermarket accessories:  An FM Converter and 8 Track Stereo Unit as well as a vintage CB Radio.  These were installed shortly after the car was new!  Best of all, to my knowledge everything still works!  The stereo definitely does.  I turned on the CB and got some noise and chatter out of it.  Have not been ablke to try the trailer brakes, but everything seems to be there and in good order.

In addition to the aforementioned original owner title for the car, I also have a thick file folder with every repair receipt and service record for the car since new in 1969!  These document original ownership and odometer mileage.  Also have all factory books, Protecto Plate, and brochures etc.  This is truly one of the most original and documented cars I have seen in a long time!  The body is super straight, original, and rust free!  I have not found any rot or Bondo.  All original body panels, floor pan, trunk pan etc.  Undercarriage is also nice and original, not flaky or scaly like many you see.  Like any used car, there are some small nicks and dings from people opening doors up over the years, etc., but in my opinion, this Catalina looks better at 45 years old than many 5 year old cars I have seen.  Interior is super nice, not faded.  Dash, door panels, headliner are all super nice, not cracked, faded, or torn.  Original carpets look great.  Seats are very nice and comfortable. Instrument panel also looks spectacular!

Last week I drove this car on a 150 mile trip, 55 to 70 MPH interstate driving.  It is smooth, sure footed and powerful, just like you would expect one of these vintage Pontiacs to be!  No issues that I could see.  It was like sitting in your living room!  Has 74,000 original miles, but could pass for half of that!  For a full sized car, it handles remarkably well, without a lot of roll or body lean.  Very smooth, even at 70 MPH!  I would not be afraid to drive this car anywhere!

These original "Survivor" cars are really the hot thing in the collector car hobby.  Anyone can write checks and over-restore a derelict, but they are only original once!  This car has many possibilities for enjoyment in the collector car hobby:

1.  Use it as the ultimate hauler to tow your GTO or Firebird "trailer queen" to car shows!

2.  Use it as the ultimate and unique low priced tow vehicle to tow virtually anything smaller than the Queen Mary or the Empire State Building!  LOL!

3.  It would be a great car for vintage collector car tours

4.  Use it to compete in the HPOF (AACA Historic Preservation of Original Features) or "Survivor" class at antique car shows

5.  Use it for all of the above!

Don't miss this opportunity to buy an honest to goodness original, 1 owner unrestored vintage Pontiac with all documentation at a price that won't break the bank!  This is a true NO RESERVE AUCTION!

I am sorry for all the rules, but it seems that 5% of difficult people spoil it for the 95% who are good. Thanks very much for l

NO RESERVE! NO RESERVE! NO RESERVE!

ABOUT ME:  I have been a collector and enthusiast of Postwar American cars for nearly 40 years!  I maintain a "rotating collection" of 6 to 10 such vehicles.  Sometimes I sell one out of the collection to make way for a new arrival.  I favor un-restored original "Survivor" cars from the late 1950s to mid 1970s.

Junkyard Gem: 1988 Pontiac LeMans Sedan

Tue, Feb 7 2017

During the 1960s, the Pontiac LeMans was a sporty, rear-wheel-drive midsize car, the GTO's cheaper sibling. Through the 1970s and into the middle 1980s, the LeMans became a bit less youthful-looking but remained a traditional rear-wheel-drive Detroit machine with a V8 engine option. Then, starting in the 1988 model year, the LeMans name went onto a South Korean-built version of the misery-inducing, front-wheel-drive Opel Kadett E. These were dark days for the Pontiac marque; here's the proof, photographed at a San Francisco Bay Area self-service wrecking yard last month. This one didn't quite make it to the 100,000-mile mark. These cars were very, very cheap and sold reasonably well, but nearly all of the 1988-1993 LeManses are hatchbacks. I have seen a total of two Daewoo LeMans sedans during the last decade, and this is one of them. Under the hood, 74 raging Opel/Daewoo horsepower. This content is hosted by a third party. In the United States, the ads for the LeMans were all about the hatchback, and all about cheap excitement. 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge vs. 2006 GTO, which Goat gets your vote?

Mon, 08 Sep 2014

The Pontiac GTO was perhaps the most iconic muscle car of the '60s and early '70s. With its beefy V8 and color palette screaming for attention, it summarized in a single vehicle everything that made the era so appealing to many young people. Pontiac tried to collect just a few drops of that aura again in the 2000s with a revived GTO, but with decidedly mixed results. The performance was still there with its big V8, but the looks never quite lived up to the powertrain. Now, Generation Gap wants to know which of these Goats is the one to own.
Things are skewed immediately because the 2006 GTO here is a real ringer. It comes from famous tuner Ken Lingenfelter's collection, and it's a one-off example partially fettled by GM Performance boasting a twin-turbocharged LS2 V8 with a claimed 750 horsepower and a wide-body kit. This Goat definitely isn't what you're going to find just browsing for one to buy in the newspaper. Still, dip the throttle just a little, and this GTO pulls like a freight train. It's enough to turn the two hosts into giggling schoolboys behind the wheel.
The '69 GTO Judge here is also out of Lingenfelter's collection, but this one is all stock with a 400-cubic-inch (6.6-liter) V8 and a Ram Air hood for a claimed 366 hp. It might not have the unbelievable power of the turbo '06, but it makes up for it with style to spare.

GM recalls 61k more vehicles in three campaigns

Sun, 05 Oct 2014

Following a stop-delivery order for its new midsize trucks and a rash of recent recalls, General Motors is issuing three more campaigns covering 60,575 vehicles in North America with 57,182 of them in the US. As of October 1, the automaker has issued a total of 74 recalls (see the ridiculously long chart to the right) this year covering 26,495,070 units in the US.
The largest campaign covers 46,873 examples in the US of the 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 and 2011-2013 Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle imported from Australia. It's possible for the driver's knee to hit the key and make it move from the "Run" to "ACC" position while driving. GM says its Holden division is developing a fixed-blade key that's supposed to fix the problem by only allowing it to rotate toward the "On" position. There has been one crash caused by this fault but no injuries or fatalities.
The second recall is for 10,005 units of the 2004-2007 Cadillac CTS-V and 2006-2007 Cadillac STS-V because "the fuel pump module electrical terminal may overheat." This can cause a flange to melt and allow the pump to leak fuel. GM specifies that the remedy for the CTS-V is replacing the fuel module and fuel tank jumper harness, but it doesn't specify how the STS-V is being repaired.
