1963 Pontiac Catalina 389 on 2040-cars
Mount Prospect, Illinois, United States
I just purchased this vehicle with the intention of restoring it but I came across another vehicle so I will let this one go. First of all, this car has not been touch or repainted, someone did some body work in the back and that's it. The odometer reads 74000 miles which I was told is correct and by the condition of this I believe it. I drove the car on the expressway 70 miles to get it home without any issues. If you plan on restoring this classic it will need lower quarters and rocker panels (all available on line). The doors and trunk are very solid. Driver side fender will need a patch on the rear lower part and the passenger side is good. The trunk pan is good but 2 spots on the seam will need repair. All these issues seem to have started in the last couple years, this car has not been rusting out for the last 20 years, so it can still be salvaged rather simply. The hood is also solid aside from the small pits starting to form on the front. Bumpers have no dents, the front is in great shape and the rear has some surface rust in 2 spots. Dash board is perfect, no splits or cracks, radio still works as well as wipers. Seats and door panels will need attention, carpet is original and in great shape. ALL the trim is there. The most expensive part of restoring these cars are the availability of the chrome trim, this one has it all. Tires are new and the engine and trans were rebuilt 20,000 miles ago. It's a 389 2bbl engine. Any questions please ask. I can send more pictures. Also included is the rolling frame pictured. It's from a 63 Catalina as well and can be used on this car. The frame on the car is solid but had some repair done in the past on the passenger side. This frame would be for a full resto. It's free if you want it.

GM recalling another 2.7 million vehicles in five separate campaigns
Thu, 15 May 2014The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles.
The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles - some of them the same models - but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago.
The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents.
Rumormill: DeLorean Motor Company considering rescuing Pontiac Solstice?

General Motors has made a science out of sharing platforms. So when the company's Kappa platform was introduced for a new rear-drive roadster to be distributed across three different motor divisions, you'd have figured the program was pretty safe, right? Unfortunately for the workers at the Wilmington Assembly Plant which manufactured the Kappa roadsters, those three divisions were Pontiac, Saturn and Opel - three units which the General has either sold or shut down. Which is a shame, because a perfectly good rear-drive roadster platform is a heck of a thing to waste.
In one of the strangest rumors we've heard recently, however, our compatriots over at Jalopnik report that the DeLorean Motor Company (yes, that DeLorean Motor Company) is considering buying the plant and the platform from GM and putting it back into production as a new DMC.
Pontiac Firebird in latest Generation Gap scrap
Tue, 30 Sep 2014Generation Gap is mining the Lingenfelter collection again this week to compare two very different interpretations of the Pontiac Firebird. An original 1968 example goes toe-to-toe with a 2010 Lingenfelter Trans Am to see whether the old man or the modern re-imagining takes the crown.
Being from the Lingenfelter collection, both cars are absolutely immaculate. The '68 packs a Pontiac 350-cubic-inch (5.7-liter) V8 with a claimed 320 horsepower and some classic, muscular style with a hood-mounted tach. Plus, it's painted in an understated shade of green that you don't usually see.
In the other corner is Lingenfelter's pumped-up take on the classic shape based on the modern Camaro, and this is just one of six concept versions ever made. It wears an eye-catching, vintage-inspired livery of blue with a white stripe package. Under its shaker hood is a 455-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) V8 with a reported 655 hp and 610 pound-feet of torque.
