CONTACT JEFF AT 570 977 0741.  Up for sale and your consideration is a rare and beautiful 1963 Pontiac Catalina two door hardtop equipped with original 389 engine factory 3-speed manual transmission, 3.23 positraction rear and dual exhaust. Data plate lists style as 63-2347 Body PO7392 Trim 237, Paint LL and accessories as 1A 2A & 5A. Please take the time to look over all 24 photos that I have here on the listing.  I have even put this car up on a lift to photo the undercarriage to show the solid integrity of the car. I have many more photos available. Just give me a call and ask for more photos if you want them. I have in hand the PHS documentation report as well as PHS copy of the build sheet for this car.
DRIVELINE:
This Pontiac retains it's original driveline with 95983 miles on it. The original 4-barrel intake was replaced with a 2-barrel somewhere along the line. However a four barrel intake, carburetor, and air cleaner go with the car. The transmission is a 3-Speed manual with code A # 3748868 with a date code of L-12-12. Cylinder heads have a date code of L-17-2 Engine block is stamped 02B. Differential is a 3:23 posi-traction unit with Safe-T-Track differential tag still on it. Car runs drives and stops great. Some oil residue on the transmission crossmember indicates there are probably a few oil drips here and there but again, this is a 95000 mile original drivetrain in a 51 year old car. Engine has just been serviced with a fresh oil and filter change, new spark plugs, new air filter, new points and condensor, carburetor tuning and dwell set. The chassis has just been lubed. The motor runs absolutely fantastic.
UNDERSIDE:
Underside inspection reveals car was saved from major rust issues due to undercoating when new. Further inspection reveals a fresh rebuilt front suspension with new A-frame bushings, ball joints, shocks and springs.
BODY:
Body is painted with the original Code L Marimba Red and is near perfect with only a few minor touch-ups. Bumpers appear to have been replated. Glass is all perfect. Windshield is tinted. This car was obviously garage kept.
INTERIOR:
Interior is beautiful with replacement seat covers and carpet. Padded dash is excellent. Oil pressure and temperature gauges have been added to original dash. Wipers, heater, and radio are all working. Headlights, tail lights, stop lights, turn signals and interior lights are all working. Back up lights do not work. Car is equipped with factory optional original seat belts.
NOTE:
In my photo assortment you will see that I put a set of original 1960's Mickey Thompson 5-spoke mag wheels on the front and a set of Radir 775-15 Cheater Slicks on the rear to show how the car would look in Drag Racing Trim for potential buyers who may have a Super Duty Clone in mind. This wheel and tire package will ONLY be included with the car at the buy it now price. If the car is sold for anything less than buy it now price then the additional tire and wheel package will be available for a separate additional purchase price. The same applies for the California 1963 Black Tag
TERMS OF SALE:
This rare vehicle is being offered at a fair and reasonable price so a real working class car person can purchase and enjoy it. It's rarity, condition, and desirability all speak for themselves, as do the photos, documentation and my feedback rating. My summary of this car is based on a complete and thorough inspection, as well as servicing and driving the car, as well as conversation with the previous owner. I did not buy the car new so I don't have history of it dating back to 1963.  I can only give you the complete and thorough information that I have provided here on the car. I have in hand a clean title for this car showing actual mileage and antique status. Keep in mind that this is a 51 year old car. It is sold in AS-IS condition with no actual, expressed or implied warranty or guarantee of any kind. The day you buy the car it then becomes your car. No refunds or rebates. If you have any doubts about the condition or integrity of this car then I welcome and encourage you to come see the car in person by appointment to answer any questions that you may have. I would be proud to show you this car in person before the auction ends. It is not a restored car but has great curb appeal and can be enjoyed immediately.  It is in turn key and drive home condition.
Please check my 100% positive feedback and buy with confidence.  Feel free to ask any and all questions on the car. I have accurately and honestly described this car to the best of my knowledge. Payment for the car is as follows: FUNDS IN HAND and a local pickup is the most preferred, encouraged and accepted method of payment. Any other forms of payment must be discussed with me. I am not interested in trades of any kind.  An Ebay required $300 non-refundable paypal deposit will be paid by the winning buyer using either the buy it now option or winning buyer at the end of the auction to commit to the sale. Then come on out and pay for the car funds in hand and take it home. This is the easiest way to complete the sale. If a buyer requests shipping it will be their financial responsibility. I will be happy to recommend previously used shippers. I will also be happy to reasonably assist in the appointment set-up, pick-up and loading of the car. Again to be crystal clear should any prospective buyer have any questions whatsoever as to the integrity or condition of this car then I welcome and encourage the opportunity to show this car in person by appointment to answer any questions that you may have. My contact number is at the top and bottom of this ad to make it very easy for any potential buyer to reach me at. So lastly any questions at all on this fantastic Pontiac please don't hesitate to CONTACT JEFF AT 570 977 0741.  Thanks and good luck !

This junkyard '91 Grand Am is as hooptie as it gets

Wed, Jun 29 2016

I spend a lot of time in junkyards. A lot of time. With all this experience, I have learned to recognize a perfect hooptie when I see one, a car whose final owner got every last bit of use out of it when its value was hovering right about at scrap value. This 1991 Pontiac Grand Am that I spotted in a San Francisco Bay Area self-service wrecking yard a few days ago, from the final model year for the third-generation Grand Am, checks all the hooptie boxes just right. First of all, it's a low-option coupe with the wretched and unloved GM Iron Duke engine, a rattly, gnashy, thrashy 2.5-liter four-cylinder kludged together using off-the-shelf parts from the Pontiac 301-cubic-inch V8 during the darkest years of the Malaise Era and used in cars whose buyers just didn't care. Most of the paint has been burned off by 25 years of harsh California sun, but the car spent sufficient time in a damp, shady spot for lichens to build up here and there. There are skeletons-with-sombreros stencils sprayed here and there, plus a big moonshine-guzzling skeleton mural painted on the hood. Goodbye, property values! Still, someone felt some affection for this car, giving it the name "Good Ol' Snakey" and painting that name on the decklid. We can assume that the Iron Duke was a bit loose by this time, probably leaving a serpentine trail of blue smoke behind the car at all times. So, the combination of cheapness, ugliness, menace, and who-gives-a-damn functionality make this Grand Am an excellent example of a pure hooptie. Within a couple of months, it will be crushed, shredded, shipped out of the Port of Oakland, and reborn in China as refrigerators and Geely Emgrands. Somewhere in Northern California, though, a few of Ol' Smokey's friends will remember this car fondly.

This 1927 Oakland is a minimalist hot rod

Fri, 21 Feb 2014

There are hundreds of American automakers that sprung up during the dawn of the automotive era, only to fold into obscurity or get gobbled up by what would eventually become the Big Four (yes, we're counting AMC here). Oakland is one such company, which was the forbearer for General Motors' Pontiac division. Sold until 1931, you simply don't see Oakland-badged cars anymore. Unless, that is, you know Brian Bent.
Bent drives a 1927 Oakland that still rides on wooden wheels. Its original wooden wheels, from the sound of it. That makes this anachronist and his Oakland the perfect subject for a Petrolicious video. Like many of the cars highlighted by Petrolicious, this old Oakland has had some work done to it, featuring a Pontiac flathead engine that's been pushed forward and a clutch pack built by Bent.
Take a look below for a closer look at this rare and fascinating Oakland.

This 93-car Iowa auction is like a Big 3 classic muscle museum

Tue, Aug 27 2019

Bill "Coyote" Johnson has been buying cars since high school and has amassed a collection totaling 113 vehicles, according to NBC 6 News. But time has changed his motivations and priorities, and he's decided to auction 93 of those cars, many of which are classic muscle from Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, Plymouth and Pontiac. The megasale will take place Sept. 14, 2019, in Red Oak, Iowa, at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. A 1969 Plymouth Road Runner infected Coyote with a love for Detroit muscle when he was just a teenager, and his desire quickly turned into an obsession. He's spent the past 40 years finding, buying and working on a variety of makes and models. Unlike some collectors, Coyote didn't discriminate against certain brands and has rides from each of the Big 3 automakers. Included in the auction are Camaros, Satellites, Super Bees, Chargers, Challengers, Barracudas, Coronets, GTOs, Mustangs, Cutlasses and others. Possibly the most intriguing aspect of the auction is that all of these cars will be sold as-is with no reserve. Many of them will need work, depending on quality standards, but this seems like a golden opportunity to find a classic car without leaving a bank account in shambles.  The auctions are open for bidding online now, and the full auction will take place on September 14. Check out the full listings and bid at VanDerBrink Auctions.
