I have here a great starter project that is complete but has been in the early stages/process of a restoration. All parts where packaged away inside and stored in a spare bedroom in the house. The dash is very nice including all knobs and factory radio, dash pad is cracked but a good usable core/no rot. This car needs attention to the rear tail panel where it was lightly his and most likely sat outdoors for many years which has now rusted through and will need replacing. However the trunk pan and floors are almost mint with the exception of a few pin holes in the drivers floor pan near the pedal assembly. Passenger side quarter is real nice with only minor patch work needed to the lower portion and the drivers quarter has a little more attention needing to be addressed. It has a dent below the quarter window where its as if someone had rammed the car with a shopping cart. Other then this the hood and deck lid are excellent, the car has all glass with factory tint front and rear windshields. The doors on the car will be included but are shot, I have obtained one good passenger door in great shape that goes with this sale and do have a 61 sedan with a good drivers that can be negotiated upon sale if interested. Also comes with extra sets of exterior chrome moldings and interior trim pieces. I do have the bench seat and rear, they are torn up but free from any tarnishing or rust/again nice cores. The transmission is still bolted to the engine which is a 389 2bbl car but this year had the factory forged rods, it does have the undesirable hydro-matic slim jim trans but the motor does turn freely. This car was a project of mine that I personally started and have since acquired too many projects that leave this one having to go. The car is located in Northern Central Iowa, this auction is being sold as is and buyer is responsible for pickup. I have the capability to help load if needed. Upon auction close I require a 500 dollar deposit within 48 hours and balance paid within 7 days. PLEASE DO NOT BUY IF THE FUNDS ARE NOT AVAILABLE!! Thank you.

Pontiac Firebird in latest Generation Gap scrap

Tue, 30 Sep 2014

Generation Gap is mining the Lingenfelter collection again this week to compare two very different interpretations of the Pontiac Firebird. An original 1968 example goes toe-to-toe with a 2010 Lingenfelter Trans Am to see whether the old man or the modern re-imagining takes the crown.
Being from the Lingenfelter collection, both cars are absolutely immaculate. The '68 packs a Pontiac 350-cubic-inch (5.7-liter) V8 with a claimed 320 horsepower and some classic, muscular style with a hood-mounted tach. Plus, it's painted in an understated shade of green that you don't usually see.
In the other corner is Lingenfelter's pumped-up take on the classic shape based on the modern Camaro, and this is just one of six concept versions ever made. It wears an eye-catching, vintage-inspired livery of blue with a white stripe package. Under its shaker hood is a 455-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) V8 with a reported 655 hp and 610 pound-feet of torque.

Airbag recall adds 85k Pontiac Vibes to tally

Fri, 13 Jun 2014

The repairs needed for the faulty airbag inflators supplied by Takata continue to expand. Toyota initially announced a recall of 766,300 vehicles equipped with the bad part on June 11 as a followup to a campaign from 2013. Soon after, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened a preliminary evaluation into five automakers who also used the component in their models. Now, NHTSA has released the official announcement of the latest Toyota recall listing 844,277 affected cars, including the newly added 2003-2004 Pontiac Vibe.
While NHTSA's document didn't include a model-by-model breakdown, General Motors spokesperson Alan Adler estimated to Autoblog that roughly 85,000 Vibes in the US would be covered under the latest recall. Like the rest of the affected models, the airbag inflator could rupture in a crash causing the bag not to work correctly, possibly spraying metal fragments at the occupant.
Toyota spokesperson Cindy Knight told Autoblog that the reason for the disparity between the earlier press release and NHTSA document was that Toyota was continuing to comb through VINs to create a list of affected vehicles. The original number was an estimate of that process at the time. Scroll down to the recall report from NHTSA.

This 1927 Oakland is a minimalist hot rod

Fri, 21 Feb 2014

There are hundreds of American automakers that sprung up during the dawn of the automotive era, only to fold into obscurity or get gobbled up by what would eventually become the Big Four (yes, we're counting AMC here). Oakland is one such company, which was the forbearer for General Motors' Pontiac division. Sold until 1931, you simply don't see Oakland-badged cars anymore. Unless, that is, you know Brian Bent.
Bent drives a 1927 Oakland that still rides on wooden wheels. Its original wooden wheels, from the sound of it. That makes this anachronist and his Oakland the perfect subject for a Petrolicious video. Like many of the cars highlighted by Petrolicious, this old Oakland has had some work done to it, featuring a Pontiac flathead engine that's been pushed forward and a clutch pack built by Bent.
Take a look below for a closer look at this rare and fascinating Oakland.
