Here for sale is a 1960 Pontiac Catalina Convertible . The interior is 100% original it as had 1 replaced top and 1 one repaint in the 70's. The top had a tear in the front of it and during transport ripped the center of the top off. The top rails are in excellent condition with original felt liner intact. This car is very straight and has very minimal rust on the body the areas are in the front and rear of the wheel wells of the quarter panels very minimal. The surface spots on the paint are just that surface rust as you can see in the photos. There is a hole in the center of the drivers side front floor pan that I have a new replacement panel for.The drivers side rear floor pan was replaced ( they did a nice job on it but its not original style sheet metal). The trunk was fiberglass years ago, It's solid but it should be replaced for a correct restoration. There are a few small areas on the inner rocker panel/floor extension that can be cut out and replaced and the flat bottom of the rocker panels have some bubbling that can be replaced. The exterior outer rocker panels are in nice shape with the exception of a small spot on the passenger side quarter rocker seam. Would be an easy repair what I'm trying to say is this car is not a total rust bucket but in nice solid restorable car. It has a set of fender skirts in the trunk that are in very nice condition along with the original jack and spare tire. I brought the car home to my shop and changed the oil , lubed the cylinders , cleaned the points, disconnected the fuel line to a small gas can in the front grill pan and started the car up and it run unbelievably well. I preceded to do a complete brake job on the car to make it mobile . I replaced the wheel cylinders. The drums and brakes shoes were as new so I did not replace them, I Greased and packed all the bearings . I had all new brake hoses made ane purchased a brand new master cylinder and when I went to change the master cylinder it was frozen to the booster. So the car is not operable for transport loading it will need a new master cylinder and brake booster , However, I can try to install the master cylinder without the brake booster to see if I can get a brake pedal for loading but I can not guarantee that but I will do my best but with a new brake booster and flushed fuel tank the car would be moble. I have described this vehicle to the best of my ability . If you have less than 10 Ebay transactions please contact me before bidding or your bid will be retracted. I have the right to end this auction anytime as this vehicle is listed locally. I have described this vehicle to best of my ability ,but should you have any further questions or request any further photos please contact me by phone at (813) 393-8705 as my time on the computer is limited. A $500.00 deposit is due within 48 hours after auctions end and the balance is due 7 days after auctions end. Thank You and Good Luck Bidding Jimmy (813) 393-8705. |

Junkyard Gem: 1980 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ
Sat, Mar 4 2023A couple of years before John DeLorean and his team at the Pontiac Division created the GTO by pasting a big engine and some gingerbread on the LeMans, they created a rakish, powerful coupe based on the staid full-size Catalina. This was the 1962 Pontiac Grand Prix, which sold like crazy and escalated the personal luxury coupe war already brewing in Detroit. Starting with the 1969 model year, the Grand Prix switched to a smaller chassis (shared the following year with the new Chevrolet Monte Carlo), and all subsequent rear-wheel-drive Grand Prix (that is, through 1987) remained siblings of the Monte. Today's Junkyard Gem is a rare 1980 Grand Prix LJ, found in a self-service yard near Reno, Nevada. Sure, a fresh round of Middle East conflict had put a kink in America's fuel hose in 1979, leading to gas lines and a general sense of malaise, but at least the new Grand Prix looked extra sharp for 1980. The LJ package came with all sorts of appearance and comfort goodies, including these "luxury seats with loose-pillow design in New Florentine Cloth." A Pontiac Phoenix LJ was available as well. These seats must have been very comfortable when new. Who needed a Cadillac when Pontiac would sell you this car at a base MSRP of just $7,000 (about $26,704 in 2023 dollars)? That price was what you paid if you were willing to get the base 3.8-liter Buick V6, though. To get a V8 engine with four-barrel carburetor, you had to pay extra. If you did pay the extra for a V8, which one you got depended on which state you lived in; in California, you got this 305-cubic-inch (5.0-liter Chevrolet small-block), and in the other 49 states you got a 301-cubic-inch (4.9-liter) Pontiac. The 305 was rated at 150 horsepower with 230 pound-feet; the 301 made 140hp and 240 lb-ft. This car was originally bought in California (the state line is about ten miles away from its final parking spot), so it has the Chevy engine. The V8 added $195 (plus $250 for the California-only emissions system) to the out-the-door price of the car, or about $1,316 in 2023 dollars. Outside of California, a 4.3-liter Chevy V6 was available for just 80 additional bucks ($305 now). All 1980 Grand Prix got a three-speed automatic transmission as standard equipment, with no manual available from the factory. This car has the optional air conditioning, which cost $601 ($2,293 after inflation). This is the "Custom Sport" steering wheel, which was standard on the LJ. The tilt option cost $81 ($309 today).
CNN chronicles young girl building Pontiac Fiero
Fri, 26 Oct 2012At fourteen years of age, Kathryn DiMaria has already done what many self-proclaimed gearheads won't even attempt in their lifetimes. The Dearborn, Michigan teen is rebuilding a car from the ground up.
The intrepid youngster asked her parents when she was just twelve to start a Pontiac Fiero project, even offering to pony up all the funds herself. Father, Jerry DiMaria only expected the project to last a few months, but two years later, Kathryn is still at it. In this CNN video, the two are at Maker Faire (a DIY festival) rebuilding a 3.4-liter V6 engine out of a Chevrolet Camaro to replace the 2.8-liter mill found in the Fiero.
The whole family hast pitched in, with Kathryn's mother teaching her how to sew in order to complete the interior, father Jerry providing much of the technical know-how, and even her sister is chronicling Kathryn's progress through photos. Jerry even started a thread in a Fiero forum which has been live for two years and is now 22 pages long. Of the project, one forum member wrote, "welcome to the madness."
Junkyard Gem: 2007 Pontiac G6 GT Convertible
Sun, Jan 8 2023GM's Pontiac Division sold its first convertibles during the 1927 model year (just a year after the division's creation), then proceeded to offer memorable drop-tops for most of the following 83 years. The best-selling convertible to bear Pontiac badges during our current century was the retractable-hardtop-equipped G6, available from the G6's introduction in 2006 through the second-to-last model year of 2009 (the Sunfire convertible was available just through 2000, while the Firebird convertible vanished with the demise of the slow-selling Firebird itself after 2002). Here's one of those G6 GT convertibles, found in a Denver-region boneyard after a crash ended its driving career. Mashed right front, popped airbags. This sort of damage might have been worth repairing in 2009, but not today. The 2007 G6 was available as a coupe, sedan, or convertible. All the convertibles had the GT trim level and the 3.5-liter V6 and its 224 horsepower. The MSRP on this car was $28,750 (about $42,325 in 2022 dollars), making it the most expensive G6. The power hardtop roof folded up into the trunk, leaving 1.8 cubic feet of trunk storage space with the top down. This Karmann-designed roof system made the interior much quieter than that of a traditional soft-top convertible. All G6s were built at Orion Assembly in Michigan, where Chevy Bolts are born today. The G6 was built through the 2010 model year, making it one of the very last Pontiac models (the Vibe also made it to 2010, though it was really a Toyota Matrix). In hindsight, 2007 turned out to be an ominous year for GM.
