This auction is for a 1959 Pontiac Bonneville Coupe out of Florida. Same owner since 1977. It was his pride and joy. The prior owner has serious health issues now so the family has decided to sell off some of his estate. We were fortunate enough to get this car. The car only has 59,925 actual miles. It has the original 389 V-8 4 BBL, Dual Exhaust, Automatic Transmission, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Padded Dash, Tinted Glass and 2 Tone Paint. The color is called Sunset Mist. It is the original paint with the exception of a few lower areas on both sides of the car that have been touched up with a different shade of paint. Also the roof has been re-painted. I couldnt see that it has any major body work done in those areas so I dont know the reasons for the touch up. This was done many years ago. I did notice the drivers side front floor pan has rust the size of a baseball covered with a piece of tin on the top side. Also both rear body mounts have rust through. A correct patch panel for each area would take care of the problem. The rest of the underside is very nice. Frame is perfect. All inner and outer rockers, braces, pans etc are very nice. The car is super straight down both sides. Doors open and close with ease. All glass is in nice shape. Windows roll up and down nicely. All the stainless and chrome is in very nice condition. There is one tiny ding on the trunk molding and one on the passenger side fender eye brow. Also that headlamp bezel on passenger side has a mark. These look like they can be easily be taken out and buffed back to new. Bumpers are perfect. Grilles are perfect. The trunk has a light that is removable if you are working around the car. The interior of the car is very nice, all original except for replacement carpets. The original carpet had silver threads going through it where this one doesnt but I understand that you can order the correct type. The headliner is perfect. The dash pad isnt cracked but is lifting on left and right sides. With a real good detailing the interior will come out quite nicely. The car is missing the passenger side mirror, the little piece of stainless below the vent window and the correct hubcaps. Brakes have recently been done. Car runs and drives very well. A set of skirts, wide whites, spinner hub caps and a crisp clean paint job would bring the car back to life. Drive and enjoy it the way it is and make it nicer later. These cars are a blue chip investment and are only going up in value. There are not many of these left. We have a clear Florida title and proper dealer paper work for a smooth transaction. We require a $500 non refundable deposit within 24 hours of auctions end and the balance due 3 days from auctions end. If you have under 20 feed back please contact us prior to bidding. We just want to make sure everyone is on the same page and intends on following thru with the sale. GM doing fine at retaining Pontiac owners
Fri, 28 Oct 2011This isn't the first time we've reported positive news about General Motors retaining former Pontiac owners. Get a few more stories like this latest report from Edmund's Auto Observer, and it will mark an ongoing positive trend for GM. Edmunds.com crunched the numbers to see how well the General is hanging on to customers after shutting out the lights at Pontiac, and it found that nearly 40 percent of Pontiac owners stayed with a vehicle from a General Motors brand.
The numbers are a little lower than an earlier R.L. Polk & Company study, but Edmunds says General Motors is keeping more former Pontiac buyers than it has since 2007. Most are turning to vehicles from Chevrolet, especially during January and February of 2011, when GM incentivized Pontiac owners to stay under the umbrella. Those moves seem to have worked, and 28.1 percent of Pontiac owners trading up made the jump into a Bowtie.
Buyers that have gone elsewhere have largely stayed loyal to Domestic automakers, with Ford picking up the most conquests from Pontiac, with 9.4 percent switching. Toyota and Honda picked up 7.4 percent of the pool of former Pontiac drivers. The numbers are defying any predictions that Pontiac buyers would completely exit the General Motors fold, and have climbed up closer to parity with the retention figures of other GM brands from a 2009 low of only 16 percent retention.
Pontiac Aztek rises from the ashes of infamy in Firebird Trans Am guise
Thu, Apr 9 2020What if the Pontiac Aztek, one of the most widely ridiculed vehicles ever built, was reimagined with a little flair from one of the former brand’s more legendary cars? Well, it turns out that someone not only came up with that idea, but followed up on it. And so, we present to you the Pontiac Aztek Firebird Trans Am, uh, trim package? ItÂ’s not real, of course, but it comes from Abimelec Arellano, an Hermosillo, Mexico-based car designer with too much time on his hands who goes by the name Abimelec Design. Arellano redesigned the midsize SUVÂ’s wimpy front fascia to surprising success by simply adding widened fender flares and perhaps modernizing the headlights. He also went all-in embracing the AztekÂ’s abrupt, flattened rear end by removing the rear bumper lip, adding a slightly more aggressive rear spoiler to boot. This content is hosted by a third party. Arellano also added some probably larger Pontiac Snowflake wheels with gold accents that really make them pop and play well against the signature Firebird decal dominating the hood. Commenters generally fall into one of two buckets. As one put it, “I never thought the Aztek could look this good.” Others implored Arellano to do a version with a T-top. Or as one Autoblog editor put it, “So it turns out the reason the Aztek was a laughingstock failure is that it didnÂ’t come in a Smokey and the Bandit Edition. Somewhere, a dude who got shouted down in a product-planning meeting years ago is vindicated.” Sold between 2001 and 2005, the Aztek arguably reached the pinnacle of its notoriety as the metaphor for the drab, underachieving life of Walter White in AMCÂ’s meth drama, “Breaking Bad.” It came equipped with a 3.4-liter V6 that made 185 horsepower and sent it through a four-speed automatic to the front wheels, with an all-wheel drive version also available. The Aztek may have the last laugh, especially if it gets a screaming chicken. “The fact it was a controversial design and didnÂ’t sell well will make it an object of curiosity from a historical standpoint many years from now,” McKeel Hagerty, president and CEO of classic-car insurer Hagerty Insurance, told Autoblog back in 2016.
German prosecutors have recorded calls between VW bigwigs talking dieselgate
Thu, Mar 21 2019It's barely possible to believe how poorly Volkswagen continues to handle dieselgate. Depending on which day you catch the news, the German carmaker embodies the corporate venality of "Michael Clayton," the comic blundering of the Coen Brothers' "Burn After Reading," and the every-man-for-himself vengeance of "Reservoir Dogs." Today is Tarantino day, with news that German prosecutors have recordings of phone calls between former Audi and Porsche development boss Wolfgang Hatz, ex-Volkswagen Group executive Matthias Muller, and current Porsche executives Oliver Blume and Michael Steiner. Hatz made the calls to the trio in November 2015, two months after Volkswagen admitted its diesel-particulate sins to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Hatz was still employed at the time, and in his company car. Who recorded the calls? His wife. Hatz and his missus apparently saw the storm coming and started stacking defenses early. Hatz's wife, who can be heard encouraging Hatz during at least one call, sent the recordings to Hatz's attorney from her mobile phone. According to a Google translation of the German newspaper Handelsblatt's report, she included the note, "Here is a very long, but quite informative conversation on the current situation with useful formulations." The report in Handelsblatt said that in Germany it is generally "not allowed" to record a conversation and pass it on to a third party. We don't know how the authorities will handle this matter, since prosecutors found the recordings in e-mail attachments on Mrs. Hatz's mobile phone. Remember, when the diesel scandal broke, VW spent months saying that only a small number of low-level personnel were behind it, and all of the higher-ups had been blindsided. Ex-CEO Martin Winterkorn claimed to be "stunned that misconduct on such a scale was possible in the Volkswagen Group." Winterkorn successor Matthias Muller said, "according to current information, a few developers interfered in the engine management." Former VW USA honcho Michael Horn told a congressional committee that "a couple of software engineers" programmed the software for reasons no one could understand. In the recorded conversations, Hatz apparently called Muller to find out how VW planned to treat him.
