2003 Pontiac Vibe (toyota Matrix) 31mpg, A/c, Cruise, Mp3 Port, L@@k No Reserve! on 2040-cars
Colby, Kansas, United States
You are looking at a 2003 Pontiac Vibe that has served a growing family very well. It has the Toyota 1.8 liter inline 4 cylinder, which is the same engine as in the Toyota Corolla and Toyota Matrix. It shares all mechanical and interior components with the Toyota Matrix and has proven very reliable for us.
It has minor dings and scuffs (as can be expected with a 2003), and during the whole time we've had it (since August of 2011) it has a OBD code P0420 (which deals with the exhaust system efficiency). I replaced the catalytic converter and O2 sensors in 2011 with aftermarket parts, but the check engine code remains. I keep a $20 OBD reader in the car and check to see if it's a P0420 code. If it is, I erase it. The car continues to run reliably. This car has averaged 22 mpg in town and 31 mpg on the highway. If we're driving in calm winds, we've gotten up to 36 mpg on the highway! The air conditioner blows cold and the cruise control, sunroof, power windows, locks and mirrors all work as they should. The sound system sounds great and it will play CDs as well as hook up to your iPod or mp3 player through the auxiliary audio jack. The Pioneer sound system face is also removable for added security, if you live in an area where that's a concern. We hope it will serve it's new family well, and it would work great as a safe school car or for a small family. This is NO RESERVE auction, so here is a great opportunity to get a good car for a low price! Kelley Blue Book lists this car's value at $3789 in its current condition, but these cars have been selling on eBay for considerably lower prices. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions about the car's condition. Good luck and happy bidding! |

CNN chronicles young girl building Pontiac Fiero
Fri, 26 Oct 2012At fourteen years of age, Kathryn DiMaria has already done what many self-proclaimed gearheads won't even attempt in their lifetimes. The Dearborn, Michigan teen is rebuilding a car from the ground up.
The intrepid youngster asked her parents when she was just twelve to start a Pontiac Fiero project, even offering to pony up all the funds herself. Father, Jerry DiMaria only expected the project to last a few months, but two years later, Kathryn is still at it. In this CNN video, the two are at Maker Faire (a DIY festival) rebuilding a 3.4-liter V6 engine out of a Chevrolet Camaro to replace the 2.8-liter mill found in the Fiero.
The whole family hast pitched in, with Kathryn's mother teaching her how to sew in order to complete the interior, father Jerry providing much of the technical know-how, and even her sister is chronicling Kathryn's progress through photos. Jerry even started a thread in a Fiero forum which has been live for two years and is now 22 pages long. Of the project, one forum member wrote, "welcome to the madness."
GM recalling another 1.3-million cars over power steering woes
Mon, 31 Mar 2014When it rains, it pours. General Motors has announced yet another major recall, covering 1.3 million units in the American market over concerns that the power steering could suddenly fail. As reported by The Detroit News' David Shepardson, GM has now recalled nearly ten times as many cars as it did all of last year.
It's important to note that should this problem arise in these cars, the steering won't fail completely, however, power steering could suddenly stop functioning. Manual steering would still be possible, but as GM says, there's an increased risk of accidents, particularly at lower speeds.
Like the ignition switch recall, this latest problem covers a wide range of vehicles from Chevrolet, Saturn and Pontiac. Normally, we'd give you the full rundown in paragraph form, but the variety of models and model years means a list is just easier. So, have a look, directly from GM's press release:
This 93-car Iowa auction is like a Big 3 classic muscle museum
Tue, Aug 27 2019Bill "Coyote" Johnson has been buying cars since high school and has amassed a collection totaling 113 vehicles, according to NBC 6 News. But time has changed his motivations and priorities, and he's decided to auction 93 of those cars, many of which are classic muscle from Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, Plymouth and Pontiac. The megasale will take place Sept. 14, 2019, in Red Oak, Iowa, at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. A 1969 Plymouth Road Runner infected Coyote with a love for Detroit muscle when he was just a teenager, and his desire quickly turned into an obsession. He's spent the past 40 years finding, buying and working on a variety of makes and models. Unlike some collectors, Coyote didn't discriminate against certain brands and has rides from each of the Big 3 automakers. Included in the auction are Camaros, Satellites, Super Bees, Chargers, Challengers, Barracudas, Coronets, GTOs, Mustangs, Cutlasses and others. Possibly the most intriguing aspect of the auction is that all of these cars will be sold as-is with no reserve. Many of them will need work, depending on quality standards, but this seems like a golden opportunity to find a classic car without leaving a bank account in shambles. The auctions are open for bidding online now, and the full auction will take place on September 14. Check out the full listings and bid at VanDerBrink Auctions.
