1969 Pontiac Grand Prix "LOADED J".... I guess they "ran out of SJ's" it was "cheaper to insure a J", or some other story that makes you feel good, but any color you want to paint it, it's got the good options, which are: 428 engine, Power: Seat, Steering, Brakes, Trunk, Door Locks.  A/C, Rear speaker, gauges (oil temp battery)

428 is completely rebuilt that was running totally fine when pulled out...it smelled like burning oil off the hot engine and it bothered me...

Rebuilt transmission by same shop here in Boise.

Completely rebuilt front end, bushings ball joints, steering controls, springs, kyb shocks front and rear, brakes, brake lines, alignment etc.....

Rotors were not changed, should be original to the car.

Vinyl top was replaced by my Dad for my birthday about 11 years ago, (there is a blue note in the paperwork saying happy birthday David) but the car has been driven less than 1500 miles since and stored inside my shop since then.

Tires are really nice, not many miles on them.  Car came with 14" wheels, but I put 15" wheels on it a few years ago.

I asked nearly every year about the car for 6 years 1994- 2000.  The old couple finally agreed to sell it to me....go out and look at it and make us an offer....  When I opened the hood, I saw the chrome air cleaner and valve covers.  It was "her car", not his. They said it was in a parking lot accident at Albertsons in the 70's and the daughter added remembering hearing "whoever owns the green Pontiac Grand Prix" over the intercom of the store.... it was hit behind the driver's door, you can see the paint spot fix job in the photos. They kept all the paperwork for the car in a file which I will include...and try to ad that photo that I just took.. and I CANT FIND THE PAPERWORK FOR THE WORK I HAD DONE... it may be at work with the title in the safe.. when I know more on this I will put it in the description....but can tell you it was about $8000.00 parts and labor here by a well known shop in town.. (the owner has properly restored several of his own GTO's, one or two are "Judges")  Many dates and mileage on the paperwork showing its original...not 213k.

Examples- MILES- in 1973 -34,231, in 1975 - 48,500 in 1976- 62,400, in 1981 - 74,100 miles, in 1988 92,000  The car was licensed till 1995 or 1996, but not driven much. The car had about 106K miles on it when I got it about 13 years ago and it has 113K miles now.  I took the motor out in about 2005 or 2006.  This was my daily driver for less than a year, and a hit and miss driver for the other 5 years or so....typical for me, I change cars often.

It was kept under a large open garage next to the house by the previous owners.   I have about 45 receipts/repair bills/parts lists/shop order forms etc from about 1973 to current.  I call this car a survivor.  It has some paint blemishes for sure (paint is thin, wore off, and bad in areas), but its got a majority of the paint the factory put on it, and I like it the way it is. It requires a lot less babysitting and worrying.   The trunk has the original cardboard panels on the sides and has ZERO RUST- NONE.  The inside of car has ZERO RUST, often times car sweat inside and all the metal under the dash and under all the vinyl etc is rusty and gross.  THIS CAR IS NOT A RUST BUGGY.  It's a dry Boise, Idaho car, it does have very minor rust on the body, very minor....

The interior is nice...front door panels have minor cracks, and small wear spot on the drivers seat.  I would not enjoy the car any more if I painted it or fixed the minor things on the interior.  Carpet is in super shape..not tired or worn out. There is still and inspection sticker on the inside of the windshield from 1974 if I remember right....

I backed the car in my garage about 7 years ago, and was annoyed with the smell of oil burning off the engine, it ran strong, had no knocks, no smoke etc.  I should have just fixed the oil leaks ... but ... 6 years later, I got it back on the road.  I did not install the engine and transmission.  I did pull both... but had the shop that rebuilt both install them and never had either in my possession from time I dropped them off about 6 or 7 years, I brought the shop my car when they were ready ( yes, it was a long time, but that was the agreement..) "I will rebuild it, but no set time that it would be done" They installed them at that time....when they were done.  The total for the labor and engine and transmission was around 8000.00 I paid 2500 down and about 5500 balance.....I had two yellow receipts that I thought were in the car, but cant find them, I will ask the shop if they have a copy....and give the shops info upon request of coarse.

I have driven the car less than 1000 miles since the installation, and its for sale now because it does not bring me the joy I imagined it would.

I know it's a very loaded J, and it came this way, it's not a Plain Jane car with added options.  It NEEDS:  a front seal on the transmission replaced.  If is sits for about a week or 10 days it leaks out about 1/2 a quart, and has since the day I drove it home.  The transmission shifts strong and works just as it should but needs the cable adjusted so when putting it in park, its actually in park, it will click on a slight hill.   It had a new master cylinder on it when I got it back, but it slowly goes to the floor, so it needs a new one, its still very driveable, but not really safe.  It has a gas leak when filling the tank up, but if it has less than (approx 10 gallons) it does not.  Its been this way since I got it back.

The exhaust is older and will need whatever you fancy, put on someday.  I would not enjoy the car any better if it had new exhaust.  The battery is new, the underside of the car is in SUPER SHAPE. The engine and components should be as it came from the Factory.  There are a couple plug/wires for accessories that are not plugged in, I do not know why or what, but it's extremely limited...perhaps only one after looking closely.

I do not have the 14" wheels, I think I sold them, don't recall.  The carpet is very nice, no rot, rips or tears, and its original.  Original floor mats in the front, no back ones.  I am likely missing something, but this is the best description I can give.

If you are wondering why I never took it back to have the trans leak fixed, you would have to know me, but I refuse to return things, and did mention it to an employee a week after I got it back ( he was looking a parcel of land I had for sale), but just never took it in.   Good luck buying and or bidding, the car is here to sell, its not just for sale and I will not relist it week after week trying to get every last penny out of it.

I bought a 64 Catalina safari and it will take this cars place.  I have put a tremendous amount of money and time into this car, and am ready to lose money, but no more time, so PLEASE, dont waste it, bid to buy, don't delay in putting the immediate deposit down and paying for it.  The car can stay here for 2 months, no charge-

I will not let you come here and restore it or take a shower and have dinner here either....that would be annoying.  It needs to be paid for within a week.  You can't show up and pay for it or change your mind after you bid/buy it.  If I wanted to deal with all that goes with selling a car that way, i would put a retail price on it and wait until someone came along that just had to have one of these cars with these options...they are out there...the cars, and the buyers for them.... Either way, you will be getting this car for far less than my recent repair bill, so you should be very happy with the car. PLEASE WATCH CLOSELY.  I have a history of lowering the buy it now or reserve (not sure how I will list it just yet) but I have done this in the past to get things sold and over-with... so watch closely.  I may deliver the car to a neighboring state or perhaps a little further.. just make an offer.  It would be trailered and delivered...perhaps late at night if that would work out for me.... I am likely missing some things..but this is better than most dealer or private seller descriptions...they leave out the bad things it seems... and the photos all seem to make things look better than they are.  This is not a repainted cover up job car.  You will not be overpaying for a cheap paint job, or have to deal with greasy front end parts, greasy engine compartment etc.  It was all scrubbed and cleaned and painted when the engine was out.

I think the car was built in Pontiac Michigan....just in case that matters.

I called the shop that did the motor, transmission and install.  They will have a copy of all the work that was done in detail.  They keep copies on file, so its not a problem.

Junkyard Gem: 2000 Pontiac Sunfire coupe

Thu, Feb 21 2019

In a few months, we'll reach the tenth anniversary of GM's axing of the venerable Pontiac brand. G6s, Vibes, and Matizes continued to be built until 2010, but I'm noticing a marked decrease in discarded Pontiacs lately, as I perform my junkyardy rituals. Here's a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire, photographed in a Colorado wrecking yard. The Sunfire was the near-identical sibling to the Chevrolet Cavalier, based on the long-running (1982-2005) J-Body platform. It was cheap and simple, looked pretty sporty (at least in coupe form), and every parts store in North America carried just about everything you'd need to keep one running. This coupe had to compete for sales not only with a vast and menacing array of imports but with GM's own Saturn SC2 (not to mention the Cavalier itself). Meanwhile, the J platform was showing its age more with each passing year. This car sports what must have been the complete line of Fatal Clothing bomber-nose-art/skate-punk/gang-tag-influenced decals, circa 2010. I actually photographed this car back in 2011, then misplaced the image files until last week. The stickers are very California-centric for a Colorado car, but then plenty of Californians — including me— move here. When you know you're a car's final owner, it's a lot easier to whip out the paint pens and redecorate the interior. Power came from the engine GM developed for the very first J-Bodies: the 2.2-liter 122 pushrod four-cylinder. 2002 was the last model year for 122-powered Sunfires and Cavaliers; the most affordable S-10/Sonoma/Hombre trucks got this engine through 2003. It even came with a remote, so bad Midwestern farmgirls could make quick getaways when caught in the act by enraged broom-wielding mothers. GM Recalling Another 2.7 Million Vehicles In Five Separate Campaigns

Thu, May 15 2014

The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles. The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles – some of them the same models – but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago. The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents. A further 112k Corvette models from the 2005-2007 model years are being called in for problems with their low-beam headlamps resulting from a flexing relay control circuit wire that's not meant to bend. GM says it is "aware of several hundred complaints" about this issue, but notes that there have been no reports of related accidents. In addition, over 19k examples of Cadillac CTS from the 2013 and 2014 model years are being recalled over windshield wipers that might not work after a jump start. Finally, GM is also bringing in 477 examples of its 2014 Chevy Silverado, Tahoe and GMC Sierra (though not the Yukon) to fix a problem with a tie rod in its steering rack. As ever, all recall repairs will be performed free of charge, and GM is now estimating that recall-related actions this quarter will result in an estimated $200-million charge against its second-quarter earnings.
