This listing is for a super-rare Ram Air GT edition Pontiac Grand Am. The year is 2004. It has very low mileage for its age. I do not have any photos of the interior included in this auction at the moment, but it is in perfect condition just like the rest of the car. This car is so rare, there is not even a Blue Book value for it. If you check the Blue Book sites, Ram Air and ENKEI rims are not even options.

I based the asking price on the Blue Book retail price for a Grand Am GT of this year and mileage plus an approximately 30% markup for the rarity of the options. I am open to offers, but given the rare value of this car, I am not willing to sell it cheap or at what you would call a wholesale price. Wholesalers, marketers, and scammers; please don't waste your time or mine by trying to contact me about this.

The engine is a GM 3400 (3.4L) just like what would be found in a police-model Impala. These motors are known for longevity. They use a timing chain rather than a timing belt for the overhead cams, so the motor is basically maintenance free. At the vehicle's current mileage, it is just now getting broken in and has much life ahead of it. I encourage you to search this fact online. In addition to having the famous Impala motor, this special edition car has the forced-induction Ram Air system which gives the 3400 motor more power than would be found in even the police cars.

This vehicle is in perfect, all-original condition. The only "modification" is the K&N air filter (which really isn't even a modification). The bright-red paint is all-original. It is a little dull on the hard-edges on the front end, but this is natural wind-burn on a car like this. I decided that it would have better value with the paint being all original rather than repainting the very-minor fading on the front edges (which probably cannot even be seen in the photos or from a distance of a few feet or more when looking at it in person).

The last year for the Grand Am was 2005. While Pontiac did offer the Ram Air option in previous years, it was nothing like the ones made in 2004 and 2005. These late-model Ram Air GT's featured a aggressive body style with hood scoops, race-style front air-dam (bumper cover), Ferrari-style side louvers, and a spoiler. This is a very powerful and fast car, but also offers all the conveniences of any sport-sedan. The Grand Am was really the first ever sport-sedan to be offered on the modern American market.

There is no grill on the front of the vehicle, instead the Ram Air scoops exist in this location. This is the reason for the custom-styled front air-dam which has a lower front-spoiler that directs air up and into the radiator.

Everything in the vehicle is in top-notch working condition. I just had this vehicle shipped up from the south-west, so it has never even seen snow or road salt. Under the hood, you will see that it is probably the cleanest used car that you have ever seen.

The rims are made by ENKEI (an American manufacturer of premium alloy wheels). Some of the photos show the vehicle without hubcaps, all of the original ENKEI hubcaps are included. The ENKEI name and GM logo are cast into every wheel so that you know that they are authentic.

I have not taken photos of the interior yet, but it is just as clean as the rest of the vehicle. The color is tan. I will gladly provide photos of the interior if you would like to send a message and ask.

The only option for payment and pickup is payment up-front and pickup at my home. The buyer is responsible for arranging shipping if desired and must send cleared/certified payment prior to pickup.

If the buyer is a Maryland or Delaware resident, we will renew the inspection form so that you are ready to register the vehicle.

There are no mechanical problems whatsoever. The only minor issue is that the tires do not match from front to back. The rear tires are brand new Cooper Dorals and the front are Hankook with approximately 1/2-3/4 tread life remaining.

Scammers don't waste time!

Pontiac should come back as a performance division for GM

Thu, Apr 6 2017

For decades the Pontiac brand was known as GM's performance brand. From the 1964 Pontiac GTO, to the 1967 Firebird, to the 1984 Fiero, to the 2006 Solstice Turbo, and 2009 G8 GXP, Pontiac had a reputation for building exciting cars, with bold styling and performance to back it up. When the Camaro was killed off in 2002, the Pontiac Firebird died off with it, and the last Pontiacs were built in early 2010. But with names like G3, G4, and G6, Pontiac's performance image had long faded from it's earlier glory days. My idea for Pontiac's revival would be to bring it back as a dedicated performance marque similar to Chevy's Super Sport (SS) line up of years past. First, and most obvious would be to bring back the Pontiac Firebird. Offering the entry-level model with the Camaro's 275HP turbo 4 cylinder engine, then having the Camaro SS's 455HP V8, but also offering a halo model Trans Am that is a revamped Camaro ZL-1 along with it's tire-shredding 650HP, supercharged V8 and race tuned suspension. Secondly, I would bring back the GTO. Which I would base on the current Chevy SS, but I would use the full 455-horsepower LS4 V8 (rather than the 415-hp setup that it has now). Furthermore, I would add the impressive 650-hp supercharged V8 to provide real competition to the Charger Hellcat. Importantly, I would make sure that the new GTO had bold, distinctive styling that really set it apart. I understand that purists would want any Pontiac GTO to be a two-door coupe, but I think that they could forgive that if the new GTO was an outstanding American performance car. Next, I would take the Buick Cascada convertible, add much bolder styling, swap in the Camaro's 275-hp turbo engine, and tune up the suspension to provide more performance than luxury (without being harsh). And finally I would round out the line up by using the new 2018 Traverse , but use the new, bold Pontiac design language to spice up the model's looks, tweak the engines for more power, and again provide a performance suspension that matches the model's new sporty looks. Obviously, having a high performance Pontiac model line up would steal away some sales from Chevy, Buick, and Cadillac models. But I think that it would more than make up for this by also stealing away sales from competing brands. Rumormill: DeLorean Motor Company considering rescuing Pontiac Solstice?

DeLorean Motor Company Pontiac Solstice renderings - Click above for high-res image gallery
General Motors has made a science out of sharing platforms. So when the company's Kappa platform was introduced for a new rear-drive roadster to be distributed across three different motor divisions, you'd have figured the program was pretty safe, right? Unfortunately for the workers at the Wilmington Assembly Plant which manufactured the Kappa roadsters, those three divisions were Pontiac, Saturn and Opel - three units which the General has either sold or shut down. Which is a shame, because a perfectly good rear-drive roadster platform is a heck of a thing to waste.
In one of the strangest rumors we've heard recently, however, our compatriots over at Jalopnik report that the DeLorean Motor Company (yes, that DeLorean Motor Company) is considering buying the plant and the platform from GM and putting it back into production as a new DMC.

Junkyard Gem: 1984 Pontiac Fiero with supercharged 3800 V6 swap

Tue, Dec 31 2019

Like the Corvair, the Vega, and the Citation, the Pontiac Fiero was a very innovative machine that ended up causing General Motors more headaches than happiness, and Fiero aficionados and naysayers continue to beat each other with tire irons (figuratively speaking, I hope) to this day. The General has often proved willing to take the occasional big gamble and huge GM successes in engineering prowess (including the first overhead-valve V8 engine for the masses and the first real-world-usable true automatic transmission) and marketing brilliance (e.g., the Pontiac GTO and related John DeLorean home runs) meant that the idea of a mid-engined sporty economy car (or economical sports car) got a shot from the suits on the 14th floor. Sadly, the Fiero ended up being the marketplace victim of too many issues to get into here, and The General pulled the plug immediately after the 1988-model-year suspension redesign that made the Fiero the sports car it should have been all along. But what if the plastic Pontiac had never suffered from the misery of the gnashy, pokey Iron Duke engine and had been built from the start with a screaming supercharged V6 making way better than 200 horsepower? The final owner of today's Junkyard Gem sought to make that very Fiero, by dropping in one of the many supercharged 3.8-liter V6s installed in 1990s and 2000s GM factory hot rods. The first Fieros came out in 1983 for model year 1984, and the only engine available that year was the Iron Duke 2.5-liter four-cylinder, which generated its 92 horsepower with the full-throated song of a Soviet tractor stuck in the freezing mud of a Polish sugar-beet field. The 2M4 badging stood for "two seats, mid-engine, four cylinders," just as the numbers in the Oldsmobile 4-4-2 once represented "four carburetor barrels, four-speed manual transmission, dual exhaust." This car is a top-trim-level SE model, which listed for $9,599 (about $24,200 today). The no-frills Fiero cost just $7,999 that year, making these cars far cheaper than the only other reasonably affordable new mid-engined car Americans could buy at that time: the $13,990 Bertone (aka Fiat) X1/9. The Toyota MR2 appeared in North America as a 1985 model with a base price of $10,999 and promptly siphoned off the car-buying cash from a bunch of potential Fiero shoppers.
