Rare 71 Pontiac Gto 455 Project Many Options With Phs! on 2040-cars

Year:1971 Mileage:48000
Location:

Auburn, New York, United States

Auburn, New York, United States

Up for bid is a Real rare (1 of 534 out of 9k total gto's in 71) 242 1971 GTO has been off road for 20 years, car is very complete but in need of a full restoration, I will be very descriptive, but please ask any and all questions or come see the car before you bid! Drivetrain looks to be original, car starts, and moves on it's own but NOT driveable in its current state. PHS docs verify the following options...455/325hp, TH400 trans, 12 bolt rear 3:07 open (gears not verified), factory A/C, power disc brakes, power steering, rally gauge cluster, power windows, tinted glass, rally 2 wheels, buckets and console, and AM radio.  It also has rear sway bar and boxed trailing arms, and is in it's original color scheme.

Mechanical... TO THE BEST of my knowledge the engine, trans, and rear are original to the car, BUT I am not the Pontiac guru so you be the judge. The block is a YC code (see pic) that verifies it to be a 455, the casting number is 485428, which is also 455, but I havent located the casting date. The heads are #66, which are 71 only, and are dated H 27 0, and H26 0, intake is 481733, carb is a rochester replacement for this ap. I put a Holley on it  with a gas can just to show you it runs, it starts and idles, has some chatter, I would rebuild it if I restored the car. The trans goes into forward and reverse. Most of the A/C items are in place. Car has headers and full exhaust in good shape. Engine is orange for some reason, clean inside, and looks to be original breather also included.

Body...needs floor pans, and trunk pan, frame is solid and no past repairs, rear crosspart, looks to have been tugged on but should be fixable or changeable. There is rust/rot around front and rear windows, hood may or may not be repairable, core support decent, doors, fenders and 1/4's can be repaired or replaced depending on your level of resto. Doors open and shut nice.

Car was delivered to City Motors Sales Co in Passaic, NJ and looks to have spent most it's life there. AGAIN this car needs a FULL resto and may be too much work for a rookie. Please be serious if you bid, bidders with less than 10 good feedbacks contact me before you bid or be cancelled.     Title is clear and car is sold AS IS Where is. Mileage shows 48,xxx, may not be original.

Total payment due in 5 days, car to be picked up within 10 days unless other arrangements are made.  $300 deposit by paypal in 48 hrs, prefer cash balance at pickup. Car and title not released until paid in full and funds are clear.  Low Reserve, no buy it now, but open to offers, auction may end at anytime.

Code on rear end is WT  K  252.

Howard Stern latest in Seinfeld's passenger seat for CiCGC

Thu, 06 Feb 2014

We'll be honest: the actual cars in Jerry Seinfeld's hit internet series, Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, typically take a back seat to the celebrities in the front row. Seinfeld usually throws in a few lines about his classic wheels in the first minute or so, and then moves on to the important business of sprightly conversation and pithy one-liners. It's great.
This time around, with legendary motormouth Howard Stern riding shotgun, the 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge that might have been a co-star, gets forgotten about almost completely. Instead, Stern spends a tremendous amount of screen time extolling the virtues of his therapy sessions, attempts to dive into Seinfeld's prowess as a lover and generally makes a nuisance of himself. Pretty much to plan, then.
Scroll below to hear Howard accuse Jerry of acting like Jesus, just before declaring himself the greatest radio personality in the history of the business.

Distracted driver crosses center line and hits police car

Wed, Apr 6 2016

Attentive driving and quick reflexes saved the life of a police officer in Hudson, WI, when an oncoming driver drifted into the officer's lane and struck his cruiser. According to KMSP, the officer was patrolling along a busy road through Hudson on March 31 when the crash occurred. Dash cam video from the patrol car which was released to local media shows the dramatic collision unfold. As the officer came around a mild left-hand curve, a white, 90s-era Pontiac Grand Am continued straight through the curve, across the center line, and directly into the officer's path. The officer was able to avoid a head-on collision, but the Pontiac still struck the driver's side of the patrol car. "Both the officer and the other driver are ok, however, this accident could have been much, much worse," said a Hudson Police Department official on the department's Facebook page. "So please remember to pay attention to your driving at all times when behind the wheel." Minnesota's Department of Public Safety estimates that one in every four crashes in the State of Minnesota are caused by distracted drivers. DPS believes that the actual number may be higher, but police often have difficulty proving distracted driving as the cause of a crash. Government/Legal Pontiac Driving Safety Coupe Police/Emergency

Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes

Thu, 10 May 2012

When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.
