This is a 1974 Pontiac GTO (Ventura) hatchback in very good condition for its age but does need restoration. This was the last year of the GTO until 2004 and was the only year that is was based on the Ventura which is basicly a Nova. This car was sold in Pasedena california and lived its whole life in California. There is almost NO rust on this car which is unheard of. I have had many of these cars and have never seen one that is in this good of shape when it comes to rust. I have pictures of the rust, they are two small places in the trunk part of the hatchback that are about the size of a quarter in each place, a small quarter size hole at the bottom of the drivers side quarter panel, and some small holes in the lower part of the hatch back. There is a picture of the right quater panel that shows some bondo but it is not covering up rust, there is a dent that someone did a terrible job of fixing. Instead of pulling the dent out, they filled it with bondo. (they did that alot back then). In the pictures of the under neath there is something that is peeling off that might look like rust in the pictures but it is not. I think it is some kind of rust proofing they used back then. When it peels off the metal underneath, it looks like the day the car was made with the black e coat under it. There is surface rust in the trunk area as well, but it is just that, surface rust, no holes. There are dents in various places, one in the front left fender at the bottom which is decent size and several other small ones. The window mouldings are missing from the pictures but ARE included. The engine is not original and acording to the numbers on the block is a 400 that runs good. It has a holley carb instead of the original quadrajet. It has a carb adapter which raises the carb and puts the shacker scoop a little too high so I would either replace the intake or go back with a quadrajet. The engine has a small cam which you can hear a little thump in the exhaust. The transmission shifts and the car goes down the road but please dont ask me if you can drive it home. It has non power drum brakes and stops good. It has the tach and the gauge package on the console, the G80 the safe t track posi traction rear end and several other special options. Every guage and tach works which I couldent believe. they never work. the shacker scoop has a peice missing from it but I am including a good one with the car. I have the PHS paperwork that shows its a real GTO and all the options. You will NOT find a 74 GTO with a body in better shape than this car. I bought it to restore as this is the same kind of car that I had in high school but I will never get around to it. I hate to see it go and but I do not have to sell it so please dont make offers. If you want one of these cars you better buy it, you will not find a better one. Thanks for looking. It may take me a little while to answer questions because I get busy a work and can only check messages late at night. A NON refundable $500.00 deposite is due within 48 hours of end of auction with the rest within 7 days. I can store the car for a couple of weeks if needed. I have may cars shipped with auto transports I found on a serch and it is amazingly simple.

Junkyard Gem: 1987 Pontiac Firebird

Sat, May 9 2020

From 1967 through 2002, the Pontiac Division offered the Firebird, close sibling to the Chevrolet Camaro. By the third generation, which debuted for the 1982 model year, it became more difficult to tell the two F-body cars apart at a glance and the Pontiac-exclusive engines of the earlier years disappeared, but the Firebird still retained its own personality and its own position in the GM marketing hierarchy. I still find the occasional 1982-1992 Camaro as I search car graveyards for interesting stuff, but the corresponding Firebirds have become scarce in recent years. Here's a base-engine-equipped '87, its Bright Red paint (yes, that was the official name for the color) faded by the Colorado sun as it awaits the crusher. Firebird shoppers had their choice of three engines in 1987: A 5.7-liter Chevy V8 (210 hp), a 5.0-liter Chevy V8 (205 hp) and the same 2.8-liter 60° V6 that went into the Fiero and countless front-drive GM sedans (135 hp). This car has the base engine. The third-gen F-body didn't weigh much (3,105 pounds for the '87 with six-banger, about what a 2020 Corolla weighs), so 135 horses was tolerable. Plenty of these cars got T-5 5-speed manual transmissions, but this one got the two-pedal setup. Camaro wheels, of course. Our Friend the Carburetor didn't disappear from new cars until the early 1990s in the United States, though electronic fuel injection had become very commonplace by 1987. Still, GM considered this car's EFI worth a door-handle brag. It's not worth fixing up a mashed six-cylinder third-gen Firebird, so we can see the route this car took to its final parking space. 2013 Hurst Edition Trans Am

Mon, 13 May 2013

No, you didn't read our title wrong. This is a 2013 model year Trans Am, and yes, that is a Pontiac logo affixed to the front of the car. But don't bother dialing up your local General Motors dealership just yet. This is the new Hurst Edition Trans Am created by the Trans Am Depot located in Tallahassee, FL. Having spent a number of years restoring early Trans Am models, the crew at Trans Am Depot finally did what many Pontiac enthusiasts wish GM would have done - create a modern Trans Am using the fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro.
As the former owner of a 1977 model, I've been wanting to check out Trans Am Depot ever since I first saw the company have American Choppers build a trio of motorcycles inspired by its Pontiac remakes. So I jumped at the chance to head to Florida's capital city to visit the shop and drive its latest creation, the new Hurst Edition Trans Am. As a collaboration with Hurst, this car made its debut at the 2012 SEMA Show and then popped up again on our radar with a cheesy yet perfectly fitting video back in March.

GM's got 107 problems and NHTSA's No. 1

Thu, Mar 6 2014

General Motors' problems with its recall of roughly 1.6-million vehicles continue to mount. Now that it has emerged that GM knew about the problem since at least 2004 but waited to recall vehicles until February 2014, regulators at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have begun a much deeper investigation. NHTSA has sent a 27-page survey to GM that includes 107 questions about the timeline of what led up to the recall, and it has until April 3 to reply. This isn't a simple, multiple-choice test. Automotive News believes that hundreds of pages could be required to answer some of the queries. NHTSA says that it is still investigating GM's response to the recall. "We are a data-driven organization, and we will take whatever action is appropriate based on where our findings lead us," said NHTSA in a statement on its website. If found liable, the automaker could face a fine as high as $35 million and even possible criminal charges, according to Bloomberg. NHTSA's questions include a detailed explanation of GM's examination process; how it will improve the process; why a planned redesign of the cars' key in 2005 wasn't implemented; and specific data on each complaint it received. According to Bloomberg, NHTSA also has records that show the company had a meeting with regulators to discuss the airbag failure in a Chevrolet Cobalt in 2007. New GM CEO Mary Barra has also hired an outside law firm to conduct an independent investigation about what happened. It will include questioning company employees who were involved with the process from the start. The recall stems from faulty ignition switches that shut off the car while driving, and if it occurs the airbags deactivate. Thirteen deaths and 23 crashes have been caused by the problem, according to Bloomberg. If you would like to peruse NHTSA's entire questionnaire for GM, it can be viewed here.
