Wanted: 1967 Pontiac GTO for a special Father's Day

Thu, 07 Jun 2012

Jim Sharp of Elkhorn, Wisconsin needs a red 1967 Pontiac GTO to make his dad's Father's Day, possibly his last one, something extra special.
Back in the '60s, Jim's dad, Ken, drove a cherry red 1967 GTO to California for a job. He met a girl, got married and decided his wife's 1965 Ford Mustang was more fuel efficient than the Goat and the GTO was sold. As the story almost always goes, Ken has had seller's regret ever since.
Jim always meant to find a 1967 GTO and, with his dad's help, restore it. But life got in the way, time slipped by and Ken was recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer and given about three months to live.

STUDY: Ford owns brand loyalty in 2009; Scorned Saturn, Pontiac buyers will look outside of GM

Fri, 16 Oct 2009

Ford buyers appear to love their cars more than customers of any other automotive brand, returning back to the American automaker when it comes time to purchase their next vehicle. According to a study by Experian Automotive, six of the top 10 vehicles for customer brand loyalty wear badges from the Blue Oval. That includes the Ford Fusion (62.4 percent), Ford Edge (57.9 percent), Ford Five Hundred/Taurus (56 percent), Ford Freestyle (51.9 percent), Ford Escape (49.4 percent) and the Ford Focus (47.57 percent).
Other vehicles making up the top 10 include the Toyota Prius (52 percent), Chevy Impala (51.7 percent), Toyota Camry (47.8 percent) and Toyota Corolla (47.56 percent). This brings up an interesting question: With the closing of automotive brands like Saturn and Pontiac, where are those buyers to turn for their next automotive purchase?
Apparently, not back to General Motors. According to Experian, Pontiac owners are most likely to look to the Ford lineup for their next car or truck and Saturn shoppers will switch to Toyota or Honda - not particularly surprising given that Saturn was meant to compete with import brands. Experian predicts that GM's overall market share will fall from 20 percent to about 17.5 percent, with most of the slack being picked up by Ford, Honda and Toyota.

Porsche Syberia RS rally car is what you make when you need a Hummer that's fast

Fri, Apr 24 2020

Some history: The Porsche 911's first-ever race was the 1965 Monte Carlo rally, entered because Porsche's PR man at the time wanted to show how much the future icon could do. A year later, Porsche began selling an optional rally kit for the 911 that included Recaro seats, a roll bar, and adjustable Koni dampers. Porsche produced factory rally racers until the early 1970s, winning Monte Carlo three times in a row before letting privateers carry the torch so the factory could focus on campaigning in the East Africa Safari. After years of painful lessons, when Porsche took its brand-new 1978 911 SC to the safari, the 3.0-liter flat-six coupe was hours away from winning the race before damaging the suspension, demoting the car to second place. Porsche fans wanted their own replicas, and finding the new 911 to be an affordable option, the SC — built from 1978 to 1983 — went from denoting "Super Carrera" to "Safari Car."   Porsche took a big step up in with the 953 rally car. Built to win the 1984 Paris-Dakar, which it did, the 953 introduced the four-wheel-drive system Porsche would evolve for the 959 in 1985 and the 964-series 911 in 1989, as well as the now-unforgettable 911-based Rothmans livery. All of this is what's fueling today's 911 Safari Car revival around the world. Almost all of today's builds start with the so-called G Model 911s, produced from 1973 to 1989, usually focusing on the SC and the Carrera that ran from 1984 until 1989.  Fast forward to 2007 when a mysterious crew organized the TransSyberia Rally, a "sports-touring" event that stretched 4,500 miles from Moscow to the capital of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar. Of the 34 vehicles that entered, 25 were Porsche's purpose-built Cayenne S Transsyberia Edition.  Put this all in a pot and you have the beginnings of the car that brings us here, the Syberia RS. It's said that a German fellow by the name of Kai Burkhard wanted to buy a Humvee, but the low top speed, around 50 miles per hour, put him off. So instead, he imported a 1986 911 "in collector condition" from Japan with the idea of rebuilding it to provide almost all the off-road fun he could have had in the H1. Burkhard tapped the Tailor Made department at German suspension designer H&R, and the two set to work creating a build like the 953 Dakar winner.  This content is hosted by a third party. DESCRIPTION
Leading into the third year of sales, the GTO continued to find sales soaring in popularity. Because of this, GM finally gave the GTO its own model line versus being a performance package option for the Lemans model series. Also in 1966, Pontiac was already developing a new engine for the 1967 production year making this the last of the 389ci V8 examples ever made! Moreover, it would be the last GTO available with a tri-power carburetion option for the horsepower hungry buyers! The stacked headlights, new aggressive grill and louvered taillights made these cars as sinister as they iconic to the muscle car collectors!

Features on this 1966 Pontiac GTO Hardtop Coupe include numbers matching “YS” engine block, correct intake, correct Carter AFB 4034S 4-barrel carburetion, correct code “093” heads, Harrison radiator, factory Custom air conditioning (R134a conversion with proper POA valve upgrade and blows cold), upgraded 14” Rally I wheels wrapped in white letter radial tires, factory Wonder Touch power steering, upgraded power brakes, factory automatic with center console, rally gauges, correct color code L-L: Marina Turquoise exterior, correct interior code 220-B: Turquoise Strato-Bucket seat interior, with original AM radio, all Soft Ray tinted glass, 3.08 highway axle ratio, deluxe steering wheel, deluxe seatbelts, and correct chrome under hood air cleaner & valve covers!!

This car sold new from Charles Vincel Pontiac here in St. Louis, MO and later found its way to the former owner for the past 22 years located in Southeastern Missouri. It’s been wonderfully maintained and cared for since new! It was under his care when it received a very comprehensive, professional restoration that began in 2004 and finished in approximately 2011. This included body-off rebuild of the chassis, body itself, and complete drivetrain. Extensive effort was made to make the car very showable. All correct original components were used, or the best replacements available. You will find all new chrome and bright work, all new suspension, new 2.5” exhaust, all new interior that included seat foams, upholstery, dash pad, headliner, door panels, floor carpeting and underlayment, and so much more. The air conditioning works, new Pertronix ignition installed, power brakes added, along with radial tires to improve the road manners and drivability.

The engine was professionally overhauled by Performance Specialties based in Poplar Bluff, MO in December 2009. They hot-tanked & cleaned the block, bored & honed each cylinder, and line-honed the head mating surface. New brass freeze plugs were installed. The crank was turned 10/10 and fully polished. All internals were balanced with external damper & flywheel. New factory rated flat-top pistons, rings, rod bearing, main bearings, new cam & bearings, oil shaft, oil pump, and oil screen, gaskets, etc. are all new inside. The heads were resurfaced, received a 3-angle valve job, and new bronze valve guides, and valve springs installed to tolerate today's unleaded fuels. All correct date-coded components from the professionally rebuilt carburetor to the exhaust manifolds remain with this numbers matching vehicle. Today it shows only 80,129 miles on the odometer, of which approximately 500 are on the fresh engine!

All receipts dating back to 2003, reproduction window sticker, & PHS documentation are included. A very fun car to drive and super solid throughout!! Please feel free to call with any additional questions or to schedule a time to inspect this vehicle in person! Thanks for looking!
