Backed by the original 2-Spd automatic transmission and 10-bolt Pontiac Posi rear, this car can run! The car was built in Fremont California and was sold new out of Burlingame Motor Company in Burlingame, CA (San Fran area). This car has its PHS docs and a repop window sticker all framed up for shows. It's been repainted in its original hue of Cameo Ivory with a new "Cordova" vinyl top; the body panels are original, line up well and the car is extremely straight. The interior looks to be mostly original and is in wonderful shape, the strato-buckets and console are in great shape as are the dash, door panels, headliner and replacement carpet. The sound system has been upgraded with a 200 watt AM-FM Cassette which includes a trunk mounted CD-changer -- the radio looks like a vintage unit but its internals are new (the original AM radio is included). Options include Power Steering and Power Brakes, tinted glass, buckets/console and the VERY RARE RPO612 California only "Air Injection Reactor" (A.I.R.) exhaust control system. Beginning in 1966 California mandated that ALL vehicles sold in the state were to have this system installed in order to cut down on the emissions. Try finding an original A.I.R. setup on ANY car these days, this is CRAZY rare! CNN chronicles young girl building Pontiac Fiero
Fri, 26 Oct 2012At fourteen years of age, Kathryn DiMaria has already done what many self-proclaimed gearheads won't even attempt in their lifetimes. The Dearborn, Michigan teen is rebuilding a car from the ground up.
The intrepid youngster asked her parents when she was just twelve to start a Pontiac Fiero project, even offering to pony up all the funds herself. Father, Jerry DiMaria only expected the project to last a few months, but two years later, Kathryn is still at it. In this CNN video, the two are at Maker Faire (a DIY festival) rebuilding a 3.4-liter V6 engine out of a Chevrolet Camaro to replace the 2.8-liter mill found in the Fiero.
The whole family hast pitched in, with Kathryn's mother teaching her how to sew in order to complete the interior, father Jerry providing much of the technical know-how, and even her sister is chronicling Kathryn's progress through photos. Jerry even started a thread in a Fiero forum which has been live for two years and is now 22 pages long. Of the project, one forum member wrote, "welcome to the madness."
NHTSA investigating 550k Pontiac G6 models, 320k Honda Odysseys
Mon, 10 Jun 2013According to two separate reports in The Detroit News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is launching investigations into 550,000 Pontiac G6 (pictured above) and 320,000 Honda Odyssey (pictured right) models. The G6 models are all from the 2005 to 2007 model years, while the Odyssey minivans are from the 2003 and 2004 model years. The two NHTSA probes are not related.
In the case of the G6, this is an upgrade to an original investigation that started in February after NHTSA received "hundreds of reports" that the brake lights on these cars may malfunction. According to The Detroit News, the lights may come on when the brake pedal is not depressed, and likewise, the brake lights may not illuminate when the pedal has been pushed. General Motors was able to provide NHTSA with a significant number of warranty claims, including 1,100 reports that could potentially relate to this problem, one of which indicates a vehicle crash.
For Honda, the NHTSA probe concerns airbags that may deploy unexpectedly. The government agency received six complaints from 2003-04 Odyssey owners saying that the front airbags suddenly went off without a crash. The Detroit News reports that three of the six owners sustained injuries from these incidents. Additionally, NHTSA has received 41 complaints from owners saying the vehicle's airbag warning light had illuminated.
GM recalling 426,000 sedans over faulty transmission shift cable
Fri, 21 Sep 2012General Motors is recalling some 426,240 sedans that may have a faulty transmission shift cable, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report this morning. The recall concerns a fault within four-speed automatic transmissions equipped on 2007-2010 Saturn Aura models, and 2008-2010 Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6 models.
The report specifies that tabs on the transmission shift cable may fracture and separate. Such a fault could cause a discrepancy between the actual position of the transmission and the apparent position of the shift lever.
GM is currently working to notify owners of the vehicles in question, and dealers will check and replace shift cables free of charge. Scroll down to read the complete NHTSA report.
