1966 Pontiac Gto 2dr Hardtop, 4 Speed Manual, Rare Bw Code Exterior Color on 2040-cars
Gresham, Oregon, United States
This GTO will make a new owner interested in restoring it to its natural beauty is certainly a worthwhile Project. It began its life in Fremont California and was sold by a Pontiac Dealer in San Francisco. Copies of the PHS Documents accompany this sale. It appears to have lived its life on the West coast as it still has the California Black license plate. Car is presently in Portland Oregon. I have only seen one 1966 GTO with the Color code BW which is a Dark Blue Charcoal lower portion and a Platinum upper color. The elegance of that color is like looking at a Rolls-Royce which uses a lot of the dark/light combinations. After seeing it on a GTO for the first time, I immediately became a fan. Over the years, this GTO, has been rode hard and put away wet, so to speak, by a bunch of dreamers. I purchased the car out of Western Washington which is hot and dry climate, though I do not know how long it was there. My reason for buying it was to part it out for my other projects, seeing as how it was t-boned in the passenger side rear. After reviewing the the total car, I do not feel it is a candidate for destruction. I have talked to several auto body guys and they agree that it can be readily repaired without using a quarter panel or a donor body. The GTO has solid floors including the trunk. The Frame is solid and has light surface rust in expected areas. The T-boned right frame rail extension will need straightened or replaced. The tail light housings are still good and possibly both the lens are good , one for sure, but right side grill covering lens is toast.
The Hood, passenger fender, doors, all glass, bumper, most chrome pieces, grills, header panel, core support, inner fender wells, head light housings and bezels, roof section, driver rear quarter, major frame rails, cowl section, steering wheel chrome, rear end, front bumper, gas tank are all good usable parts, plus many more not mentioned, considering the age of most of those items. Note the passenger door main window is missing, the the internal working parts are all intact. Originally the GTO came with options that have been removed or replaced. The passenger reclining seat, Rally wheels, 3;55 safe-track rear end ( now has a 3:25) (not sure about safety track working), radio, speakers, original WT motor and 4 speed transmission are not there. Presently has a non original Pontiac V 8 motor with a automatic transmission that is dropped in the slot. Have no history on motor or transmission, and assume they do not run. The manual pedals are still in place. All of those missing items are available to purchase in most cases. Might take some doing to get a reclining passenger seat. The Drivers fender is toast. A portion of the rear window side piece has been removed as shown in the pictures and I do not have a clue. Needs to be repaired. Those of you that are interested, and have questions, may contact me either through this posting or call me 360-773-3887 ask for RD. Please do not bid if you do not intend to purchase this GTO. GTO sold as is, where is and seller will assist in loading when picked up. Seller has 60 days to remove vehicle after purchase is complete. Can be delivered locally or taken to a pickup spot in the Portland, Oregon area, as the large auto transporting trucks can not make the turns to get to the location of the GTO. Reserve is low and based on value of parts replacement. GOOD LUCK on this GREAT FIND! Down payment of $500.00, non-refundable, due within 5 business days. Down payment by US postal Money order, cashiers check, or other agreed forms of payment. Down payment only through Paypal is acceptable. Balance due within 10 days of receipt of down payment confirmation by Email or other arrangements between seller and Buyer. Reviewing of the GTO is available to all who wish the look at it. No review of the GTO allowed once prospective buyer submits a bid. Seller has represented this GTO to his best knowlege. |

Junkyard Gem: 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix Daytona 500 Edition
Tue, Aug 29 2017The W Platform proved to be extremely long-lived and versatile for General Motors, remaining in production from 1988 all the way through 2016. You had your Impalas and your Regals and your Cutlass Supremes, and of course the 1988-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix was a W-body. For the 2000 model year, Pontiac made the racy-looking Daytona 500 Edition Grand Prix, an example of which I just found in a Northern California self-service wrecking yard. 2,000 of these cars were made, presumably because it was the year 2000, and each one sports plenty of cool-looking Daytona 500 graphics. Perhaps some Regal owner will buy these seats and swap them. This is the second junked Daytona 500 Grand Prix I have seen recently, after this one in Colorado. The Daytona 500 was about the same as the GTP version, with Eaton-supercharged 3800 engine making a respectable 240 horsepower. Disappointingly, this car has an automatic transmission. It never saw 150,000 miles, unlike most 21st-century W-bodies I see in wrecking yards. Featured Gallery Junked 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix Daytona 500 Edition View 21 Photos Auto News Pontiac Sedan
NHTSA could add 1M cars to GM recall
Wed, 13 Mar 2013
The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration may expand a recall campaign for faulty brake lamps. The agency is currently looking into complaints that certain 2004-2011 Chevrolet Malibu models as well as some 2007-2009 Saturn Aura sedans may have brake lights that do not illuminate when the driver presses the pedal. Alternatively, the lamps may also illuminate without input from the driver. General Motors recalled 8,000 Pontiac G6 models from the 2005 model year for the same problem, and NHTSA is currently investigating whether to add 550,000 more G6 models built between 2005 and 2009 to the list for the same issue.
In addition, investigators are currently examining 97 complaints from Malibu and Aura owners with the same trouble. If NHTSA adds those models to the recall campaign, more than one million units could be covered. GM, meanwhile, says there have been no accidents or injuries as a result of the problem.
Why Pontiac should come back and how it can be relevant again
Mon, Apr 17 2017When I was a kid growing up in Metro Detroit, our family was always entwined in the General Motors empire. My dad and some of our relatives worked for GM in various capacities, and we had our fair share of Chevrolet, GMC, and even Buick products in our humble driveway. However, it was my Uncle Ed that always had a vehicle from the one GM brand that always appealed to me the most: Pontiac. Seeing him pull up in his Pontiac 6000 and later the '90s era Grand Prix sedan that replaced it was always an exciting occasion, and both of these models also reflected the playful spirit that once defined the Pontiac brand. Back when Pontiac first got its performance groove on in the '60s, names such as GTO, Firebird, as well as Bonneville became iconic nameplates in the broader muscle car era. The '80s saw Pontiac lose some of its styling heritage, but also try new things at the same time including turbocharging as well as the mid-engine sports car with the flawed but still sleek Pontiac Fiero. When the Pontiac brand was shuttered in 2009, it was a mere few years after I earned my drivers license, and also when Pontiac was just beginning to regain some of its lost luster. Granted cookie cutter efforts like the Pontiac G3, (Chevrolet Aveo) G5, (Chevrolet Cobalt) and G6 (Chevrolet Malibu) certainly did not help matters during Pontiac's final years on the market, but two models in particular offered a compelling glimpse into what could've been for the storied brand. The first was the Pontiac Solstice roadster/coupe. Originally introduced as a concept back in 2004, and championed by everyone's fighter jet flying auto executive Bob Lutz, the Solstice was designed to be a serious competitor to the Mazda Miata, and while its interior ergonomics were flawed and the top solution not ideal. It proved to be a fun little car to drive, and also a sales success for Pontiac with initial demand exceeding expectations. This was especially due to its lineup of engines with the 2.0 liter LHU turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivering 260 horsepower in GXP variants. The second and (inarguably my favorite Pontiac model) was the Pontiac G8 sedan. Originating in Australia as the Holden Commodore VE, the G8 was designed to rectify the multitude of sins created by the last generation Bonneville. Front wheel drive was pitched in favor of rear wheel drive, and for the first time in a long time interior ergonomics and cladding free exterior styling were key building blocks for success.
